Android 4.3 worse than 4.1 for bluetooth?

Anyone else have problems making outgoing calls from their H/U after their phone upgraded? I have the same H/U that is now the base in all '14 Scions.
I loved how well my phone and the car worked together (not so much the music player but that's another thing). But after the upgrade on my phone, I can no longer make calls through the H/U. I can place calls from the phone and they work through the H/U and I can answer incoming calls, but if I try to place a call using the H/U it goes all the way to the point where it is about to dial and tells me that it can't place the call because the phone is not connected.
If I take the time to completely break the link between them and re-add the phone, it will work until the next time I get in/out of the car. Suffice to say that this is not acceptable.
Anyone else have this problem? Got a fix? I would prefer not to revert to 4.1 because there are other changes that I like.

I found another broken function. It used to be that if I was playing something that was stored on my phone by bluetooth then switched to Pandora, the H/U would seamlessly start displaying the new song information. Now bluetooth always displays the last thing I played from the phone's memory, even if I had used other sources in between.

It appears that the problem is that 4.3 upgraded bluetooth to 4.0 from whatever it was before (3.x) and there was some fundamental change that threw the communication off.
I'm looking into downgrading bluetooth on the phone.

Any luck on this?

I've upgraded my phone to 4.4.2 kitkat and the phone capability of the touchscreen head unit is now completely non-existence. I can make and receive calls on the head unit itself over bluetooth, but no sound on both end of the call.

Oddly, I can still bluetooth stream music from phone over to the head unit.

Have tried to unpaired and paired again with no success.

I'm having similar issues with my BRZ. It sometimes helps if I restart the phone (Galaxy S4) but this is not a real solution. Any tips would be appreciated.

Audio sucks on 14 bespoke. Sounds like speakers are blown over Bluetooth streaming

My saga got worse. I went to the Samsung store at the local BestBuy and all they could suggest was doing a reset of my Note2. Now the only phone book the car sees is the damned AT&T one, which I don't use. I open contacts on the phone and they are there (mostly) but I get an empty phone book on the H/U.

4.4 and the second gen of 4.3 bluetooth radios seem to work. (I tried via AoKP on an S3).

I just got a samsung note 3, and the stock hu doesn't even transfer contacts, and don't even make calls... whats going on??

Hey guys, I've noticed under my bt settings in my phone, there is a visibility timeout. It was set to 2 mins. I just set it to never timeout. I'll see if that works

Mine is an AT&T Note 2. It worked fine under 4.1 but as soon as it updated to 4.3 things went south. My original thought was that bluetooth was the problem but I no longer believe that. I think it is just a poorly written implementation by their developers. I just dumped the factory rom and went to a custom one based off Kitkat (the latest) and everything appears to work with the car again.
The only problem I have has nothing to do with the car, and that is that the contacts will only read off the simm and don't download from my Google account.

Possible workaround is to copy all Google contacts to SIM. Not the most graceful solution but it should work. This is how I keep my exchange and Gmail in sync. Every six months I wipe my Gmail contacts and update from exchange

Problem I have with that as a solution is that many of my contacts have multiple numbers, home, work, etc. The simm will only store one number per contact, so you need to make a separate entry for each number.

If you're running stock android (ie, Samsung has it's own Samsung Bluetooth stack that none of this applies to) they recently re-wrote the entire thing for either 4.3 or 4.4. It added the ability to run in BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and to send audio information like title and artist information. These didn't work before. However, though in my experience things mostly improved, there could still be some weirdness to it.

And then, as I mentioned earlier, other OEMs like Samsung could be using their own thing entirely. For instance, Samsung was sending artist information since 4 or 4.1 at least, if not longer.

Hey guys, new update. I just played around with my phone. and got it to transfer my contacts to the radio. Under the contacts, it looks like all sim card contacts are listed, but under settings you can just import all contacts in sim to the phone. yes, you'll have two entries for each person, but, it finally allowed me to transfer all contacts to the HU. Hope that helps some of you.

Glad to hear. Anyone running touchwiz with 4.3? Messages coming in is wonky and I can't get Pandora to show any information on screen of head unit but it does stream(poorly)

I use Gonemad player and all my Metadata plays on Bespoke HU using Bluetooth. I worked with the dev on the 4.3 upgrade and i use Note II It is a system wide issue from samsung on the 4.3 upgrade.
