Would you rather have More powerful or convertible 86 ?
Toyota, and it sub division scion are saying that the new sport car is going through the 3rd year of production, and approaching the 4th. They want to keep the momentum going.
Obviously, they had been releasing limited versions, but that is not enough. They teased us the convertible 86. But got kicked in the butts by Subaru. They really want to keep up the momentums, so they study it internally as where, how, to produce the 86 convertible without Subaru helps. Therefore, I have you all an Ultimate question. If Toyota was to sell more of the 86. Would you buy. 1/ More Powerful 86. 2/ Convertible. |
Targa top would be nice but... car needs more power.
|
More power. At least 240-250hp. Preferably turbo, but even NA would be fine.
|
If you wanted a convertible get a miata. All the 86 could possibly need is more power
|
I've driven a few convertibles and they're nice on certain days...but to me that's only great for a rental. The loss of trunk space, the required maintenance on canvas roofs, the weight gain and increased price for me aren't worth it.
I'm one of the few who is satisfied with the power output of this car, but for sure I wouldn't say no if I were given more. |
|
Here's my thought, and I'll preface it with I've never owned a convertible myself but have driven them a lot. I'd personally like both options. I can add more power to a car much easier, and cheaper, than making it a convertible, not to mention more reliable. So, since I can only vote for one, I vote for convertible.

Powow
|
Definitely power. Another 50-75 hp would be perfect.
|
Power.
|
Power definitely.
|
Last time I drove a convertible, some fat redneck woman threw a half-filled, large coke from McDonalds out the passenger's side window, hitting the top of my windshield and leaving me and my friend completely drenched.
So yeah, I'll take more power. |
Convertibles are fun if they make mechanical noises from the 1960's and '70's and are only driven when it's not raining. If a car is driven daily I'll have fuel injection and a hard top. :-)
|
na 250 hp at 10:5:1 covertibles are for girls

If I wanted a convertible, I would have kept my Miata. If I would have wanted a more power, I would have bought a different car. :thanks: |

OMG!! 50 HP extra and a targa top would be GREAT!!!!!! The icing on the cake would be all the features of the 86 and no crickets! That would make me trade in my 10 Series or buy it to keep as a second twin in the family. I think a convertible looks good but I like the pagoda style metal roof over my head that doesn't leak, squeak/whistle/howl, or is prime target for vandals -more power wins. |
Wagon.

HI TOYOTA I WANT MORE POWER TY K!
|
Power. Easy choice for me. I'm actually glad I didn't even get a sunroof let alone a drop top.
|
Heavier convertible with stock power? Is this real life?
What has the entire community been begging for since the car's release? Oh yes, a convertible. Silly me. :mad0260: Toyota can build their convertible and then Subaru needs to slap them over the head with an engine upgrade. :slap: I'm content with the car, but would whole-heartedly welcome the same car with a 2.5L or turbo engine. No convertibles. Ever. |
It has enough power...
Demanding more power is a slippery slope which typically ends up with a larger, heavier, more technology-intensive, more expensive car with better performance which is somehow less fun to drive. |
It should be a 4X4 - WITH CATERPILLAR TRACKS !

my last 2 cars were convertibles. i'm tired of the maintenance.. i'd much rather have a sun roof and more power..
|
Convertable. I don't have a horsepower fetish.
|
Power. I don't care for convertibles much.

It's a slippery slope when you're a luxury sports car manufacturer and people demand every amenity under the sun AND lofty performance numbers (see BMW). Toyota & Subaru have already demonstrated they don't care if people want powered seats & steering wheel controls. I agree with you, though. I already own the original so if the new one sucks it only makes mine more desirable. |
Please stop making a convertible out of every good sports car! All it does is add more weight, more flex and more moving/breakable parts.
|
Neither.
Convertible = more weight and/or less structural rigidity Mo Powah = not convinced this is easy, there will be sacrifices ($$$, weight, c.g., character) Very glad I got a '13, especially with idle talk of an I4 or oem turbo. |
Neither! Just more aftermarket parts and options please!
|
subaru can work on the car and revise to put in another turbo version like wrx engine without any problem. It sure going to happen at mid cycle 2015 :)
|
is this a real question? Less power and lighter version just to piss everyone off.

However, if I had to choose, I'd prefer a supercharger over a turbo unless I could get a variable-vane turbo a la Porsche (which ain't happenin at this price point...). I fully intended to replace my 05 MCS with a new one in 07 but the new model had a turbo instead of a supercharger which ruined the feel of the car (imo, obviously). In comparison, the 05/06 models were sublime. I kept mine and still enjoy it. In the end, it's a question of balance and more torque or HP is not always better if the rest of the car isn't prepared for it. Thus begins the slippery slope. |

All they have to do is bring in the Toyota 86 and half the people here would trade for it instantly. Sell that for two years until that new shiny thing market is saturated and then sell the gen 2. The engineering department is patting themselves on the back for getting the thing built, and the marketers are thinking "suckers".
|
Power, hands down. I could care less about a convertible.
