"Race Me"

Do you guys experience it too, about every time I’m out on the road there will be someone trying to race me. There must be "Race Me" written al over the car.

not as much anymore as in the early days, although it kinda depends on the area.

Yes!

Lol - I thought it was just me. I seem to get this too. Most common car/driver seems to be GTI's.

Yesterday, I had a GTI driver "line up" with me for a rolling race about 3 times. He pulls up along side, started revving like crazy each time. Looks like he really had something to prove...

I find the TDi's to try very hard.

Had a Uno Turbo (Extra big turbo, spoke to the guy afterwards) pass me at about 200+km/ph but he ran out of revs on the downhill when I passed him again at 236 .

also had a uno turbo try to race me in Belville about 2 weeks ago..
he couldn't beat my 4th gear acceleration though...

The GTIs around here always try on the bigger roads. I always let them get away with it up to the next corner...

I think people have caught on to the fact that they're slow, so almost no TLGP's this side but it's fine, bring the corners and I'll show you what's what. :D

I don't get many "Race Me" challenges.
I guess they see my grey hair and beard and think - whatever ... :bonk:

That said, in the past 3 months I have aloofly (is that a word?) ignored two challenges - one from a GTR (who despite AWD very nearly put himself into the ditch with his windgat demo after being ignored), and one from a not-street-legal Nissan 1400 LDV which is well known in local drag circles. When a little Nissan LDV runs big Hoosier slicks, then you know that it's best left alone. :confused0068:

But I do often experience what I call "orange sports car syndrome".

I come up behind someone cruising along in his double-cab 4x4 (or boring 1600 family sedan) at 110 and he eases over to let me past.
Then he registers on ORANGE!! and SPORTSCAR!!, and suddenly he's at 140 screeching around corners on two wheels with his wife screaming in his left ear.

So many drivers just seem to speed up when they see a sportscar... :iono:

I think it's "sportscar syndrome".
Having been burned by Namibia's speeding fines a few times, I nowadays stick to the speed limit on long roads like a choir boy. (4 grand is no joke)
That this provokes people is understandable, but if some idiot in a massive bakkie decides that I have to be overtaken when I am already doing well above posted speed limits in town, you quickly realise that he just felt provoked, or felt that I questioned the size of some of his body parts or something... :iono:

Hot hatches just don't want to play:burnrubber::paddle:
