Togue Battle: GT86 vs. WRX
Joined this event yesterday, touge style racing in a closed track. Lead cars are given a 5 sec head start, if the chase car closes the 5 sec gap, or the lead car increases the gap, they will be declared as the winner.

That was super exciting! I think you got him :)
Super fun idea - great event. |
Freakin' awesome! Looks like a blast!
cool idea! looked like you caught up big time.
Yeah, you def caught up it seems. I like the idea, sort of like a cross between time attack and all out two car head to head race. Cool.
Great idea! This is a fun way to do things without anyone worry about over agressive passes and smashing one another. That's not a stock GT86 tho is it?
one more vid from the earlier time trial...

Don't be scared of those apexes, they're not going to hurt you. :)
That will help you make up those 5 seconds. |

Automatic too! |
Great job! Keep working on that line!

What a cool concept, looks like fun man! Thanks for sharing.
Definitely looks like fun!!!
damn im jealous
Love your car. Is the windshield tinted?
Wow, looks exciting! Plus it's safe to both drivers. Definitely a form of racing local tracks around the world could adopt, cause obviously most of us cant run like Tsuchiya, Taniguchi, and Orido on the Gunsai touge.
Remember that those apexes are there to help you, they won't bite! Ther must be a lot of time in that lap!
Looks super fun though! |

Oh man I want to touge battle. Looks like fun!
Tougue should have been 2 secs. 0.2secs if it were up to me.
I would be so much faster with a car to catch as opposed to having to expand a lead. Typical American, I can't stand the sight of taillights in front of me :) .
Psychological factors must be huge in this racing style. It would be interesting to see how many close races get reverse results if run again with the drivers swapped in starting position. |

I noticed you hestitated a few times in the corner. Try taking your turns a bit wider a little towards the outside line and set yourself up for the following corner.
Cool vid! Touge is one of my favorite forms of racing to watch. Five seconds is a huge gap though.
Best Motoring and Hot Version GT do a lot of touge. Most of their videos are in Japanese but some captions are slowly being translated. The videos on the channel are short previews/summaries of the full episodes, which are usually 90 mins and full HD (have to pay to rent; some are worth it). Here's a link to the channel if anyone's interested: http://www.youtube.com/user/HotVersionGT/videos |

When I coach I talk about this monkey-see-monkey-do effect. The cliche commonly used is "race your own race" but I like to think of it as: "Race as fast as your car can go unless the physical location of a car in front or behind requires you to adapt (block/pass/draft)." Closing a gap is like carving a sculpture, there's only a few opportunities to remove a lot at once but overall it's mostly about chipping away at it. Don't make it up in 1 corner, chip away at him until the door is open again, then make your move. Don't let him drive your car for you! |
