BRZ vs 2015 WRX STI
http://www.subaru.com/2015-wrx-sti.html
Has anyone jumped ship yet? New sti looks quite appealing... I want to see how it looks in SWP. However, I want a smaller spoiler perhaps. |
It's difficult when that car isn't even on sale yet

Would jump ship for this. Too bad Subaru would never make an STI coupe again. |

The fact that people would change cars without any experience with the other vehicle leave me makes me sad
|
Hell no!! I got a Evo to play around in lol

They need to make a rwd sti.
|
I'm considering to replace my primary car with this.
|
I would wait for the comparisons. The new WRX might give you 90%+ the handling and performance of the STI for a lot less money.
And you don't get that hideous wing. |

I'd wait a couple years for the direct injected engine and all of the kinks to get worked out. I really like that there isn't a slapped-on body kit. It's all part of the regular bodywork. |

I had not seen the STI mention on their website so far. In fact, I thought they were continuing the STI over for a year or two alongside the new wrx. I personally like the hatchback models for some reason... although this new boxy shape would not really look well in a hatchback. The curves of the previous one did quite well however. |

I like the looks and some of the suspension new bits, but no thanks with the same old 305 chp EJ257. |

I think a 2.5L DIT definitely could make 340 chp reliably and easily if subaru would take engine performance r&d seriously for their flagship sporty car.
Fact is the EJ257 is decade old technology that is notoriously bad on the OEM tune. Hell I would take the new 2.0L DIT in the WRX over the EJ257 with their OEM tune. This is a big STI fan typing too (I have owned two). |

Somebody have a clearer idea about fullblown BRZ ? Even so, that would make it easily do 350-400 whp on pump gass ? Hell .....that motor in a 26k awd sport sedan ? I will snatch one up ASAP. Also, i would do CVT all day....because i had been riding manual for 12 years....would love the new change...dont hate me. |
Haters gonna hate.

They are? I was curious about which engine they will be using... I was hoping for a fa20 variant or something. |

BRZ vs 2015 WRX STI
I don't care, the 15 STI ,hands down, will blow a BRZ away in terms of pure driving excitement. Still there is just some kind of charm to the BRZ. I miss the heck out of my 07 stage 2 STI but that was then and this is now. BRZ is just a beautiful little car.

I came from an 08 stage 1 protune and can honestly say I have no regrets at all. The BRZ feels faster in day to day driving thanks to much better suspension, lower seating position, less weight, and no turbolag.
As far as the 15 sti goes, if it's got anywhere near the problems with ringlands that the +07's do, I would stay far away. Considering it's the same engine and Subaru never figured out the cause, I'm going to guess it will, but I hope I'm wrong! |
Even with newly tuned suspension on the new wrx sti, I still can't see it being better or even as good as a BRZ's handling. There is just no substitution for weight. Period.
EJ25 is a one of those engine that's a hit or miss. 90% of sti owners suffer from burning of oil (excessive amount), 30% suffer from cracked ringland, and some sort of boost creep issue when tuned. These are some issues that Subaru never bothered to correct. With that being said, these are some what minor issues. The engine makes great power, torque, and responsiveness. Not to mention there are already plenty of aftermarket parts and repairs available. Quite often when a person becomes an experienced driver, they tend to know exactly what they want and what they need. As a track driver, there isn't a car that can match the specification and characteristic of a BRZ/FRS given the price point. |
I concur with what many have said already. I've spent way, way too much money on a highly tuned Subie before, and while the car was an absolute blast at times, you can't add in exceptional engineering fundamentals after the fact. The 86 is so well designed. It is so much fun, and is a much better platform to build the car of your dreams on than an STI. If Subaru still offered an STI hatchback in the U.S., I'd possibly consider one as a second car, but as it is, the 86 gives me 85% of what I crave in a "fun" car, 100% of the time. That makes it very, very special.

The EJ25 was reliable on 04-06 STi. Not sure what in the world happened with 07+, but those engines seem to be more prone to ringland failure. Change of materials or unsafe tune to meet emissions? I wouldn't get the 15 STi because it has the same engine as 07+.

The WRX sounds like a better buy =/ . Again, what is the point to Opt in for a Limited WRX which will rack it up to 29k ? Why ?.....Why ?.......Base WRX is better I think |
Seriously considering putting my FRS back to stock and selling all the parts and trading it in for a 2015 wrx.
I miss my 2012. It was the perfect all around car. |
Can someone break down the main differences I would notice going from a 2013 FR-S to a 2015 STI?
Do you think it would suck as a daily driver? I haven't really driven any true "super cars".. had a 1992 Celica, 2003 Camry, and now a 2013 FR-S. The main reason I am looking to get rid of my Scion is it was in a really horrible accident, so I am not wanting to keep a car that already has $10K+ of repairs. |

2015 STI looks softer
|
I haven't seen the new Sti in person, and still waiting impatiently for mine to arrive .
But a friend of mine came in today with his 2015 WRX limited . That car is looking a lot better in person , the carbon fiber trim, the leather seats and those LED boomerang on the headlight is really purrdy. |
Will share my thoughts on BRZ vs 2015 WRX soon. My car should be here in about 10 days (hopefully sooner).

Instead of dumping that much or more into a 2014 I thought I would start over with a better chassis to begin with. I was not expecting the dealers here to be as aggressive as they were with 2015's, and my car being the last year of the hatches with only 2200 miles on it really helped with the trade-in. If you factor in the upgraded interior and the turbo FA20 (better MPG vs the EJ series engine) it makes it a good deal for me. Still not sold on the exterior styling and hate that I am giving up the hatch... |
