FT-86 concept's steering wheel
As far as I know, FT-86's steering wheel have been named MT's top 10 coolest steering wheels by Motortrend.
http://www.motortrend.com/features/c...els/index.html The question is, should Toyota consider using that steering wheel in production car? http://image.motortrend.com/f/288022...ring-wheel.jpg |
Kind of impressive to be in a list with all those high end exotics... except the civic and gti...
I hate to say it but the LF-A has the ugliest wheel out of them. And the one 77 interior is pure sex. |
I am mighty surprised they didn't put GTR steering wheel in there.
However, my favorite would have to be Evo 9's Momo. Its Round, not SMALL, and looks durable with no buttons on the steering wheel. |
Hm... I'm not too fan of it. I don't like the bottom two holes, I prefer more simple design.
|
Doesnt really matter to me.... I will get a blue Vertex wheel and Yoshioka Works Bell quick release/hub once I get my blue FT-86!
|
only few oem steering wheel I like but this one is not one of them, just like ichitaka05 says I'm not feeling the 2 holes but the carbon part is cool looking.
but Im thinking I'll go with a OMP WRC steering wheel or sparco carbon 385 http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...vin/OMPWRC.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...EERING-WHE.jpg |

I think it looks good from a concept perspective and surprised to see it even in MT's top 10 given it's not even in production yet.
Honestly, I like the small details: red stitching, squared off bottom with vents @ the 6, the raised padding @ the 12, the brushed aluminum/titanium @ 3 and 9 with the indented center. I'm sure if it was plain like that OMP or Momo steering wheel you guys would probably saying the direct opposite. "ahhh its too plain... it looks cheap...blah blah" ;) |
So I voted yes, and I did so for one very simple reason. It's not that I'm particularly in love with the design or materials, because I'm not really. I like the squared off bottom and what looks to be a nice little groove at 10 and 2, but over all I'm mostly underwhelmed. What really turns me on is the utter lack of buttons, knobs, toggles or any other silly nonsense which has no business being on a steering wheel of a car with even the slightest sporting pretensions. Keep it that way.

As long as it has decent handling, I won't get another steering wheels. I can't go wring with stock wheel. |
Not thick enough..

Go with the Sparco!!! Quote:
Totally agree with you on every point you brought up. I personally like the concept wheel also... Well, minus the bottom vents, though, not too crazy about those... But EVEN SO, I know I'd be very happy with that wheel if it came with the car exactly like that. Anyway, given that MT is judging all these wheels on how "cool" they are, it seems their motives are purely for aesthetics, NOT performance. And since they think that the LFA has a sweet steering wheel, I feel that their opinions are no longer valid. That wheel (ie LFA wheel) is from the 80's..... Just plain ridiculous. Too ridiculous for TRON, even. |
I like it, aside form the carbon bit and the thinness.
To you guys that are going to be running the aftermarket wheels, do you plan on putting in harness bars and multipoint harnesses? DDing? |
but on all the parts on the concept I like the shift knob and boot thats one I wont change

Everything in the the is screaming uniqueness. Love everything, and hope they will to change too much when they translate it into production.

"Toyota's first try at a super car steering wheel is mighty impressive. Its form is purely motorsport-derived, and in much the same vein as the Superveloce, it's focused on providing the driver with an uninhibited and efficient means to control the high-tech beast below. Carbon fiber, aluminum, and small bits of leather comprise the unit. In other words, it's the winning formula for a masterpiece steering wheel." I'd agree. If you think about the tech and design thought that went into making it, that alone would merit it's place on the list. Quote:

I think it is better looking that the R8, M3 and the SLS steering. The Aston is a winner though (And it better be at $1 million +) :party0030: |

You make a very good point, sir. However, I feel that MotorTrend's opinions are contradicting. First, they label the article as top 10 "Coolest" wheels... Not "performance" wheels! This leaves their qualifying factors up to some pretty broad interpretation. Even so, I do feel that an excellent performing wheel combined with exotic materials/craftsmanship makes it "cool," even if it looks dumb. Yet what I don't agree with MT is that they put the FT-86 wheel in there, even though they've never even touched it - meaning that their reasoning is purely based upon aesthetics for that wheel, when for the rest of the wheels they consistently use performance oriented expressions. That being said, I must clarify my point. I feel like Motortrend contradicts themselves in this article. In fact, I feel like Motortrend also contradicts themselves, in addition to making stupid/incorrect references, in ALL of their magazines that I have received (and continue to receive). In the end, I think Motortrend is full of a bunch of morons. But I still like to read it....sometimes. Hah. |
I still feel Evo 9 has one of the coolest raw interior ever.
Steering wheel, Alluminum Shift knob (MR model), Base of the shift knob (the circle thing), Recaro Seats. Most of the major touch points |

Like many mentioned before, the interior should be driver focused. I like the way of the design right now, hope they keep that clean dashboard and no Zippy for me. I also want a lightweight audio system. :bellyroll::bellyroll: |

I don't understand the YKK zipper thing either!? It looks like a plan b... oh shit move. I don't know about the white leather accents but other than that, the interior looks very good. |
I like the concept wheel, but the round hub in the center seems awkward. I'd still like to see it in the final version, or atleast something really close.

lighter doors.

you lucky guys can customize everything how do you want!

Look, there aren't any volume control buttons on the OEM wheel. I think I'm gonna have to replace that OEM steering wheel with an aftermarket one lol, not really digging it..

I just want them to keep that awesome interior, the wheel doesn't really stand out.

seriously though, if your fudging with volume controls when you're driving this car the way I'd drive this car, you're asking for a beating. Or worse, an accident.
Why would you want music when the motor is like aural sex? (I know, thats just creepy but motors have a beautiful sound, most of the time) |
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICES THE GODDAMN PENIS ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS WHEEL?!
I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!! |
