200+ WHP Completely Stock Vehicle, E85 and EcuTeK ProECU RaceROM Only (VIDEO)

Delicious Tuning breaks the 200 wheel horsepower on a completely stock Subaru BRZ (Scion FRS or Toyota 86), using only E85 fuel and EcuTeK ProECU RaceROM for custom tuning.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfgvtUIkRVE"]2013 Subaru BRZ Completely Stock 200+ WHP E85 EcuTeK ProECU - YouTube[/ame]

You heard correct a completely stock Subaru BRZ (Scion FRS, Toyota 86) with the following parts:

- stock headers
- stock front pipe
- stock over pipe
- stock exhaust
- stock intake
- stock engine
- stock transmission
- stock rims
- stock tires
- stock paper intake filter
- stock fuel rails
- stock fuel pump
- stock fuel injectors

http://www.delicioustuning.com/sites...y_E85_Tune.jpg

http://www.delicioustuning.com/sites...r_E85_Tune.jpg

Items used for breaking 200 wheel horsepower:
- EcuTeK ProECU
- E85 Fuel
- K&N Oil Filter
- Motul 8100 Oil

The car was run in 5th gear (closest to 1:1 drive ratios) on an AWD DynoJet Dyno. After only a few revisions to our original E85 tune (not 200+) we were able to dial on the 201 whp on an utterly stock vehicle.

* We also performance a 4th gear pull which netted us 197 wheel horsepower as seen in the dyno chart in the video.

Cheers,
William Knose

Wow, that's insane... Nicely done!

nelsmar 01-13-2014 01:37 AM

Very nice! Keep up the good work guys!

JonnyJames 01-13-2014 01:57 AM

Niiiice!!! Definitely impressive!

Gotta say though... That oil filter doesn't look stock

whataboutbob 01-13-2014 01:58 AM

Nice way to break in your new car. ;)

You caught me. You are correct I completely forgot to mention it does have a K&N oil filter and Motul 8100 oil. Which I am sure helps out a little bit.

Cheers.

Whoa. I had a feeling that people would figure out easier and easier ways to get more and cheaper power out of this car.

I wonder if you guys tried some bolt ons and if you could get some really sweet power numbers like 220whp?

Well one really cool mod on top of this E85 tune is an Airaid Cold Air Intake. We added it without removing the snorkel and picked up about 5 horsepower without changing the tune.

We then removed the cover as a test, similar to having no snorkel and picked up another 4 horsepower. So that should equate to about 210 whp without even touching the tune. Definitely like the fact I did not have to change anything with the Airaid Intake install. Just bolt on and go.

William Knose

dave77 01-13-2014 02:52 AM

Also, what was your baseline?, so we can know how much improvement there was. Thanks

s2d4 01-13-2014 04:10 AM

What about the torque curve? AFR?
Baseline overlay?
Tune for peak hp?
How many runs did you do?
Is it consistent?
Can you overlay all the runs you did?
Anything else added? I know you said stock, but adding a bung for wideband is still stock?for full close loop?

s2d4 01-13-2014 04:21 AM

O, is this the tune he is running? Or has it been dialed back for daily use?
Also, what kind of E85? 91+ethanol? 100+ ethanol?

Vladror 01-13-2014 08:31 AM

i manage to get 192.5 whp with a performance exhaust and just some octane booster in the tank (added to 95 octane fuel), without touching the software...

swift996 01-13-2014 08:53 AM

Thanks for the honest disclosure of 5th gear.

I was under the impression that octane booster largely had such a minimal impact (around an increase of ~0.4 or less) that it was pointless and a complete waste of money. Also the additives in those things could potentially cause damage to O2 sensors or gaskets, not to mention the various environmental impacts of high MTBE content.

That's largely what I was running at the track last year (Perrin CBE + 100 octane). Surprising that it may have been good for 193 whp.

Vladror 01-13-2014 09:20 AM

the engine is made to run on 98 octane, so running it on 95 (the only one we have available in South Africa) is not ideal. I'm using liqui moly octane plus, which as far as i've been able to find out has no reported long term effects on the engine, plugs or sensors.
The engine runs so much more smoothly since i put that stuff in it's hard to imagine it has any detrimental effect.

No tuning?
Performance exhaust? Like what?

Just E85 with a little leftover 91 octane mixed in, maybe a gallon or two. And this is the current tune being run in the vehicle for E85.

There is no other parts added to the vehicle and this was run 13 for the car on this dyno. I also do not usually post Air/Fuel ratios and we have been routinely checking the Advance Multiplier and it is always showing 1.00.

William Knose

I doubt the engine would see any noticeable gains on 100+e85. Hell I doubt it would see gains above 91+e60. On 96 octane a friend was tuning almost the same timing as a lot of people do on e85. You'll hit the mbt wall eventually.

nelsmar 01-13-2014 09:58 AM

So is there a baseline pull to compare this to??

it's a custom exhaust that is locally developed for/by Subaru South Africa. They fit it on every BRZ before they deliver to the owner.

s2d4 01-13-2014 10:06 AM

Not sure we are on the same page.
Here in Australia, we can get sucrogen E85 if we chose to, which is 108 octane.
The stuff at the petrol station, is at best 105 octane.
I wasn't talking about adding 91 to E85, but what E85 is made from.

Ahh, very skeptical about your numbers without tuning unless stock is +185whp on the dyno you used.

stock 86 (not mine) did 146hp on the same dyno on the same day...
that said, i also am very surprised by my numbers.. but they did 2 runs and both were similar...

figures are in kW and Nm, but you can work it out:

46.5 more HP or a 32% gain over stock with just exhaust? Something smells fishy to me.

~50hp, performance exhaust+octane booster with no tune.........:iono:

exhaust and octane booster, which i think made more difference than the exhaust
they said stock cars normally do between 115-120 kW (+/- 160hp) on their dyno
anyway, i can feel the difference ...

ShadowSeraph 01-13-2014 10:29 AM

Hmmm.. What tuning Voodoo did you do. We should then be seeing higher numbers on cars with full bolt on parts... maybe 210+ WHP. I do not think we have yet seen the max N/A potential of this car yet.

What kind of dyno did they use and what correction factors were applied. The gains that your dyno chart claims defy every single example I've seen so there has to be an explanation. My guess is there was some tom foolery going on with conversion factors or overly aggressive correction factors at play.

That or you also got an ECU reflash that you didn't know about.

Torque curve I will add in a little later. The pickup was poor on most of the runs and we could not obtain a clean pickup and therefore it did not make a smooth torque curve (spikes in the curve do to a bad pickup).

Baseline overlay, I will need to get one at a later time. As I did not have a baseline for my vehicle because I was only on E85 when I showed up. Usually BRZ/FRS's make about 170ish wheel horsepower on DynoJet by comparison.

The tune is not for peak, this was dialed in for the entire power band. As many people know my tunes, I do not tune for a peak number.

And it is consistent, in my mind if the Advance Multiplier is staying at 1.00 then it is staying pretty consistent with how our tunes are designed for daily driving, track use, etc...

I do not have all 13 runs, only the 4th and 5th gear pulls, which are runs 12 and 13.

William Knose

Even though this is impressive and definitely would like to hear more as I am sure many people would, it is off topic from the the initial post and would prefer that I new thread be started.

My apologies for my part in getting off topic. I'm very interested in seeing this tune with a header and exhaust. What was the AFR at once you got everything dialed in?

Well my goal is to now see the possible power limits that can be obtained with just adding in parts, running E85 and without doing any internal engine work. Right now I am at about 210 whp with just an Airaid intake added.

The ultimate goal is about 240 whp and dding a full exhaust system will be next and a lot of playing around with cams. Then need to start looking at other options to make the 240 mark.

Cheers,
William Knose

Hi Bill,
Well done on hitting 200whp, that's a remarkable achievement on a stock car E85.

jeebus 01-14-2014 06:06 PM

nice job!

ciro 01-14-2014 07:46 PM

my question is what required you to need E85?

To make 200whp on a stock car you need better fuel than the CAN91 piss water we get at the pump.

I have dyno charts for the car on my Mustang dyno too. We tested the Airraid intake on the Mustang. My Mustang reads 20% lower than the local dynojet dynos. But the car still made more power than any other BRZ/FR-S to come through the doors running only e-85 and an intake.

As this is Bills thread I will not post my charts without his permission.
