Soo... It finally happened..

Day after day went by.. I was worried it was me... Maybe it's because I live in New York... Maybe it's because it's cold outside... Why hadn't I gotten any compliments yet? Well.. I went to the corner store to get some beers so I can finish this dreadful research paper. I was at the window and I saw a large man in his 50's staring at my car. "Is this the moment I've been waiting for?" I thought. He laughed and said "I need something like this.. Small, it's a stick shift right?" "Yes it is a 6 speed in fact" I replied. "I need to get something like this real soon. Tired of friends asking me for rides" the large man said. I told him how much it costed and he looked at me like I just told him that I saw Jesus flying on a blue pig with Cinderella. He proceeded to shower me with compliments about the car and thanked me for telling him about it. Yes.. Finally...

I get asked about it at LEAST once a week. I once had an elderly couple (had to have been in their 60s) motion to me to roll down the window at a stop light and they immediately asked how much it was and whether or not I loved it.

I told them the price and that I do in fact, love this car, and they flashed me a thumbs up.

Flashgodspeed 01-08-2014 01:10 AM

Paper finished... Anndddd I'm impaired ^_^

Muskokan 01-08-2014 01:14 AM

Lol people question me like I'm crazy when they see me winter driving mine, guess it's a little more rare to see an 86 in the middle of northorn ontario.

suaveflooder 01-08-2014 01:51 AM

Part time job, parents pay for it, combination of both, possible inheritance, lots of loans, or possibly already has a good job and still going to school.

ZionsWrath 01-08-2014 11:34 AM

lol, my first compliment was a grade school kid walking home with his friends. I just hear "DAYUUUM?! das a subaru??"

He walks up to my open window and gives me a high five.

Then as I drive away he is like "STICK SHIFT!"

This happened to me too, not 2 mins after driving off the lot with my new baby. At the first light I stopped at, an older couple in an older 3 series drive up and both enthusiastically flash me the thumbs up. Made my day! :)

I assume is this how most of us college kids have this car. Also partly cause it is kinda affordable as well.

I had this conversation with a neighbor the other day:

Him: "Nice job with the car!"

Me: "Oh, with the parking?" (I park at a slight angle within my spot)

"No, with the car."

".....???"

"I thought it was like custom, you know how some people make custom cars and do stuff with their cars?"

"No... that's exactly how it came from the factory"

"Oh... nice car."

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 01-08-2014 02:07 PM

Only my mom compliments me on my car :P

As a single father currently paying two college tuitions, let me make a statement that should be said daily by many out there............................................. ......................"Thanks Dad!"

Right, so it's pretty much the same as you paying tuition and he bought the car. Actually the car is probably way cheaper.

jlugo711 01-08-2014 08:29 PM

I get a lot of stares and head turns but I'm waiting for the thumbs up and actual conversation about how awesome my car is!

These cars are just too awesome.. great stories lol :burnrubber:

My first real compliment I got was about a week or so after getting my car. I was heading to my brother's house and for a solid 20 minutes a guy in a Tundra was following me on the highway, changing lanes as I was, pacing me all the way. I finally exited as did he, came up to the first red light and he pulled up next to me and did the roll down your window gesture. All he said was, "Yeah I was supposed to exit about 10 miles back but I just wanted to tell you have a very nice car." "Well thank you." I replied. He gave me a thumbs up and went on his way. Made my day, lol.

Pbrown 01-11-2014 10:10 AM

Had many compliments

Best one to date....went to park my car at a local car show and as I started walking into the grounds 4 old guys came up to me and talked about the car and said it should be in the show as it looked better than most of the cars on display. Never gets old...

It's fun sharing one's FR-S with the world...

I was parking mine... away from the rest of the gaggle... and I noticed a car came and parked directly behind me!! (Argggghhhh Really??!!!) A lady in her 70's got out... and walked up to my side of the car (window).... I rolled down the window and she said..."Wow... what IS this... I've got to have one!!".

I talked to her for a bit... she was impressed with the car's pedigree... and when I got out of the car to finish the talk... I noticed that she had parked a pristine Toyota MR-2 behind me.... so I went over and did some serious drooling over HER rig... while she explained all the minor mods she had done over the years... she is the original owner!!!

Car enthusiasts... we're a strange breed... but a happy breed...

Soon after I got the car in June 2012, a Toyota Tacoma pulls up beside me at a red light. He rolls down his window and starts taking pictures with his phone. I roll down my window to see if he had any questions. The car had only been available for a few month then. That's when he says:

"Wow! Nice Aston Martin!"

I was thankful when the light turned green. I didn't know if I should thank him, correct him, or just facepalm. I turned, he went straight.

At least he didn't say "Austin Martin." I have a friend who does that and it's just awkward. :bellyroll:

Yesterday at a 3 lane stop light I was on the far left and this Tesla S pulls up on the far right. I glance to see who's driving it and the guy was staring at me with his eyes wide open then a car in the middle pulls up so I cant see him anymore. As the light turns green I see the Tesla in my mirrors aggressively change lanes to the middle and at the next red light the guy rolls down his windows and said "wow thats one beautiful car is that really a Subaru?" I say yes and he says "oh boy i might wanna trade!" Amazing where the compliments can come from.

red_comet 01-12-2014 08:15 AM

I think it took that long because you are in NY. Here in NH, I got a whole conversation from a guy at a gas station, who stopped beginning to fuel his STi when I pulled up behind him. Strangers are very forthcoming up here in the boonies, much nicer than when I lived on long island (left 5 years ago)

jlugo711 01-12-2014 09:45 AM

Went to a car show at a local Dairy Queen this past Friday. Parked my car a decent distance away, looked at a few of the cars that were at the show and went on about my business. Was inside for ~5 minutes and came back out to a bunch of little kids and their parents around the car. I walked up closer to the car and the little kids ran away! I was so ready to answer some questions! lol
