floppy mirrors

anyone else have this? my side mirrors flop back and forward .. not a lot but enough to mess with my vision..

humfrz 01-07-2014 01:04 PM

What flops, the mirror glass or the housing?

choi0706 01-07-2014 01:10 PM

housing

Hmongfrs 01-07-2014 01:12 PM

my driver side does the same thing...

STV3 01-07-2014 01:13 PM

Yep same here. Has some play in it and the pass side does not

choi0706 01-07-2014 01:22 PM

both sides for me.. the passenger I dont notice, but the drivers side is getting too annoying now..

Flat Black VW 01-07-2014 01:27 PM

I hope I don't suddenly notice this now......

Jlin 01-07-2014 04:48 PM

I've noticed this as well, the mirror itself on the driver side is flopping when going over bumps or when my bass is turned up. the passenger side housing has play since day 1, Only notice the housing play when I wash my car while wiping down the mirror but it's not enough to warrant me going back to the dealership. The driver side on the other hand... that's starting to annoy me to the point that I'll take it in to get it replaced.

STV3 01-07-2014 04:52 PM

Wonder if this has something to do with the opening and closing of the doors since the drivers side door gets the most use

humfrz 01-07-2014 05:54 PM

@choi0706 ......... well, no my mirrors are both tight.

However, if they were lose, I would attempt to tighten them up.

This guide may help:

That's strange, mine has always had this, I thought this was normal?

OK, if the "base of the housing to the car" that is lose, tightning those 3 bolts shown in the reference in the post up above might do the trick......;)

Subaru has a TSB on this issue. 12-152-13 is the bulletin number. Fix is installing new mounting bolts with thread locker.

When do you notice this lol...

Does it like vibrate in the wind or something? I has a first shipment BRZ and haven't notice anything with the mirrors and I have had it at some decent speed.

xxscaxx 01-08-2014 01:25 PM

I had this on my passenger side mirror. Its easy to fix. You need to just take off the mirror (pop the black plastic off, remove the 2 10mm bolts), and tighten the bottom screw on the mirror housing. I fixed this when I installed my heated convex mirrors with turn signals.

choi0706 01-08-2014 01:58 PM

it flops in the wind.. really aggravating, when your on the freeway checking your mirrors and they're moving away from your blind spot.. they flop depending on the car infront.. also moving from a stand still..
