husker741 12-29-2013 08:19 PM

Remember, you have Toyota technicians working on a Subaru engine.

It's not your fault at all. As long as you get a new engine, you should be fine. If I were you, I would call Scion Of America and open a case, tell them how many times you brought your car in, and everything that's gone on. It helps them learn and you could potentially benefit from them giving you extended warranty or a visa cash card.

Yea I have already opened a case and it suck s that before they replaced the coil they gave me every excuse under the sun (not using 93 octane, loose gas cap, run car low on gas) none of which never happened

Sometimes mechanical things just go bad .... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/cry2.gif

I hope they get your car fixed up a new engine soon.

To bad they won't let you keep the old one.... Could be a little side project ;)

shiro 12-30-2013 10:07 AM

Sorry to hear man. I'm in the same position but at least you didn't mod your car. I will probably have to take legal action to win my repairs and now I'm only letting subaru touch my FR-S.

Best of luck!

This is why I do not understand the value of a warranty. Seems like the only stuff covered without trouble is the cheap little stuff (which wouldn't "break the bank" anyway). But for significant issues, like engine troubles, it's always a fight.

@kjdd787 have you done any racing or track events? Just curious what general use the car has seen and what led up to this failure.

And I had already filed a claim with scion USA and they called today to see how things were going and how the car is running I told them it's not running period now. Not even turning over so they said they will investigate the claim and hopefully return all of my money

Wonder if Nissan will pull this shit if they build the IDx... "well we wanted to build a real next gen drivers car, great handling and really fun to drive but would like to warn buyers that they will be questioned like they are criminals at every service appointment and if the car is not driven like a amish buggy their warranty will be voided"

I'm sure the dealership has to work with corporate on this.. They probably can't say anything until they get the go ahead from somewhere else.. Which takes some time, not to mention the holiday time.. Good luck with the fix.

No need to speculate, most auto manufacturers try to get out of it when a car is used to it's limit, everyone from Kia to Ferrari has disclaimers in their warranty. There's legal precedent that if a car is used for competitive events the manufacturer does not have to perform warranty service for issues that arise due to more strenuous use. Good luck trying to find a sports car that didn't have any concerning issues at some point. Mustangs had exploding driveshafts, Porsche had IMS bearing failure, hell even the legendary Miata has the stiff second gear that people complain about with the 86.

It is indeed a pain to get his one taking care of. I bet everything will work out in your favor. This is a new engine from Subaru so I wonder if Subaru mechanics are really any better than Toyota mechanics. Indeed it's a boxer motor so you figure Subaru mechanics would have the upper hand. I could be wrong. Anyway you will get everything you paid for working again or something new. I had a TRD SC on my 05 tC that blew after about 1 year of having it installed. The tC was in the shop for an entire month getting repaired. Mostly because of warranty red tape the dealership had to cut through. In the end they ate the cost and the second SC has been on the car for 7 years now without issues. So all will work out just fine.

Apex-Wolf 01-02-2014 05:04 PM

So I was at a local convenience store and I was looking over at a AE86 that the shop next door had and when I look over to the other side of my car I got someone trying to get my attention. So I roll down the window and the guy starts telling me he has the same color FR-S and if I've had any problems because his had the same problem as ours coil problems. He said the dealership did a swap on the coils (put 3 in 4 and 4 in 3. something like that) And it worked for a week or so then he had TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE! so to this the Stealership told him since he missed his first oil change with them that they wouldn't cover it under warranty but that SCION was nice enough to give him a new motor BUT he will have to pay for instillation. WORST part is that he told me the dealership he got it at and it's the same place I got mine and the person "helping" him is my same service manager so I hope my engine doesn't blow cause I'll be getting the same exact run around. Instillation he said came out to about $2k.

I hate stealerships

I can not imagine he would pay for the labor if the warranty covered the parts. That's an open and shut case in any courtroom.

According to the dealership the warranty didn't cover the parts due to him missing the oil change... but Scion was nice and just gave him another motor, I personally feel the dealership if full of shit because the motor is out of the car right now and when he said he didn't have $2,000 they said they could put it back together like it was and give it back broken... SO they will do the labor for free with the broken motor but not the new working one.

Bad Habits 01-02-2014 08:46 PM

^Horseshit. So the dealer admits they were totally incompetent and ruined his motor but because he missed a 60-80$ oil change they will be "nice" and give him another motor but not cover the install? He could just say he did the service himself.

Bet its more like "I had fi'd my car and the motor ate it and i uninstalled everything but the dealer won't give me another free motor and now im screwed 'cause i spent all my money on said go fast parts"

I assure you Scion would not "give" him a motor if the dealership said it wasn't a valid warranty claim. They're not in the business of giving shit away for free and Subaru charges them a hefty premium on service parts.

Khazzy 01-02-2014 10:18 PM

Glad the dealership I got my BRZ from has some great people working in the service department. I had a small issue with the oil filter being the wrong one and they tried to get around it by telling me there was a superseding filter, but even that one was still not the one installed. They got a nice call from SoA and things were fixed from then on. If they try charging you for install, contact Scion and on the phone if you can as well as emails (proof) and see where that goes. Do not let them push you around either because if you agree to things they are going to keep digging deeper until they do not have to fix jack. Best of luck man, I hope they do not charge you for install.
