2014 vs 2013 models

I am looking to purchase a 2014 model and want to know if Subaru/Toyota ironed out the first-year glitches on this car? Seems like the chirping is still persistent in the 2014 models. Any insight is appreciated.

JM9ISM 12-24-2013 09:52 PM

Nope.... it is still going on my 2014 BRZ, also the taillight condensation:mad0260:

Main differences is the stereo headunit and the knee pads. That's about it....

Oh... jk I kept thinking FRS in my mind. :bonk:

According to this thread:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41871

The difference is the radio with Aha and the smart key is different.

Guess no knee pads :(

You're forgetting the all important "revised badging," which means the badge on the steering wheel looks like the badge on the nose instead of the dark blue of the 2013.

Haven't had any issues with mine, but its fairly new (500 miles soon to be 2000+ in a couple more days).

700 on the Odo and nothing negative to report thus far. I love my BRZ! Most non car people comment on fast and expensive it looks. They are always extremely surprised when I disclose HP and price.

The garage guy at my office when I drove mine in for the first time:

Garage guy: "Hey! Is that a porch?"
Me: "(laughing)No, no it's not a porche."
Garage Guy: "It looks like a porch! I'll bet it's fast like one"
Me: "No, no it's not fast either. But it is a lot of fun."
Garage Guy: "I really like it."
Me: "Thanks. Me, too."

Mine is a 2014. I'm in Atlanta, GA. Bought Mine Early November

subwaynm 12-26-2013 02:01 PM

I love my 2013' FRS and never even noticed the Steering wheel Badge but then again I put in one of those CARID Interior kits in Brush Aluminum and I guess that is more noticeable. The Chirping haven't noticed either but then again I use Amsoil Gas additive that is supposed to help with the WInter MTBE in the Fuel and if I'm not mistaken that is the main cause of the Chirping. And it's no good for any of our cars.
I have 650mi on mine now and purchased it the middle of November,
Either way I think you'll be happy Driver either 2013 or 2014 models.

Steering wheel badge difference is only in the BRZ.

This is very disappointing.

Rocketman1 12-26-2013 02:53 PM

Thanks for the replies. It's too bad to hear that some 2014s still have the same problems the 2013s have.

Manic 12-26-2013 03:03 PM

It might be from some of the earlier batch 2014s.

Haven't checked when mine was made, but it's a MY2014 and haven't had any chirping or condensation issues. Haven't even noticed a rattle yet.

Oh okay thanks for clarifying that for me
:thanks:

Got my '14 on New Years day, so far the only issue I have is the idling torque* dip

*Edit: I meant RPM :bonk:

Are you talking about the idle dip while sitting in neutral at a light or the torque dip when accelerating? Two different things mashed into one up there.

Having the front defrosters on uses the A/C compressor exacerbating the idle dip at the light, try turning it off when your windows get clear, the dip will likely still persist but it won't be as severe.

Ah, nice catch. I mistyped, I meant idling RPM dip. This happens with all climate/defroster systems off, as well.

get 2013 BRZ in Galaxy Blue since the color has been discontinued in the Subaru line up

Turbowned 01-04-2014 04:49 PM

I talked to a guy today and he said that apparently Subaru bought back his first BRZ because of unresolved issues and he got another one which has been largely worry-free. So, I dunno. Mine's a late 2013 and it's fine for the most part.

I know it's hard to spell Porsche, but at least misspell it consistently.

Seriously though; don't think there's much different beyond what folks have already posted - my late model year 13 is having no issues beyond mild tail light condensation... so my guess is the issues are just as intermittent in both model years.

Too true. In this case the misspelling was to convey how he and I were pronouncing the name differently. He was literally saying porch, like the thing off the back of the house.

Well I stand corrected then. Haha. Also, outstanding choice in cell phones.
