Think I went a bit too much..?
Hey guys,
Just got my hood and canards installed and I don't really know whether they're good or I went over the limit. I mean I like it, the car looks more aggressive and angry and that's what I want but some friends are sayin that the hood is just too much:iono::iono:. Car is built to have a track look, sometimes tracked too so yeah yeah function > form. Crappy pics attached: UPDATE: Removed eyelids and tint. http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8752/08es.jpg http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/3155/sfjt.JPG http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/4680/tv71.JPG http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7971/c5h7.jpg |
i think the eye lids are what kill it...

IMO paint the hood, and nix the eye lids..
I'm also not too sure on the placement of the cannards |
^ What he said. Looks like you already have your headlights blacked out. You really don't need those eyelids. Personally, I never liked the look of those anyway on our cars because the shape of our headlights are aggressive enough on their own anyway.

the hood and eyelids gotta go. - My opinion. Very race inspired with out them.

And you should paint the hood, and possible just leaving the vents as carbon. It's a mean look.

It's over the top because you've barely got 200hp to put to the ground. Unless you've got an EKanoo 2JZ under there.

To be honest the main reason why I got the hood is because of the vents because in summer it gets really hot and heat escaping the engine bay is a great help. Plus I've seen C63's and GTR's with carbon fiber all over them and I thought it wouldn't look overkill, if you ask me for my own opinion about the car now, I'd say I'd just stick to not adding anything carbon fiber anymore because THEN that would be overkill. Painting it.. kinda kills the purpose of buying a carbon fiber hood but yeah. The car is for show too so it won't hurt having a carbon fiber hood for under 200hp. |
If you love that look, just stay with that. For me. Its beautiful.

Since you're asking for opinions....those eyelids are too much for me. The hood is nice, I like the painted look better, but it's your ride, and if you're happy, then that's one more person driving an 86.
|
Paint the good or ditch the eyelids. Don't think much else is needed I think it looks pretty mean. Eyelids just stand out against the hood and might look cheap to some.
|
It is a bit much. Personal taste aside the only time *I* think canards work is when the rest of the bodywork its extreme and the car is in full race mode. Wide body, aluminum wing, ect.
In this case the thing that stood out to me the most is the canards against the lip. The canards are huge compared to the lip and the outer ones overhang. The lip on the FRS is pretty snug to the body, make the canards as well and it should tone it down. I don't think you could go with a bigger lip as it may just create an extreme disproportion to the rear of the car. Unless the JP VIP style is your thing? :bonk: Quote:

This ain't your beater honda civic guys... Stop making it look like one

Another vote for ditching the eyelids and painting the hood

I agree with painting the hood and keep vents unpainted. Also since your headlights are blacked out, take those eyelids off. Other than that, it looks good.
|
I like what you've done except for - - - the eyelids.

Alright think I'll just remove the eyelids and the tint off the headlights and keep the hood and the canards the way they are, think it'll go down on the "overkill" situation. |
I'd paint the hood and remove the eye lids.
|
So the eyelids are the odd ones out? because they just don't look good on our cars mainly or because it's out of sync?
|
i think the car looks good, but the eyelids make it look sleepy.
|
IMO I think she looks nice. Throw a turbo on that thing to represent and you got a looker. If I wanted a car that looked like an everyday sedan than I would get an Audi S4. Oh wait already got one of them and that thing smokes em :-) Its your car and your story!

Well FI is coming soon but I'm taking it easy for the first low xx,xxx miles. Haha! This is why I'm really not tempted to remove the eyelids and just want to keep the car the way it is now. Still haven't looked at the car in daylight but I'll try to take a pic in the morning/afternoon and post it, sometimes it differs, I like how the weaves of carbon fiber change like hologram or something that's why I don't want to paint the hood but if the eyelids and tint on the headlights are killing it then oh well guess I'll have to remove them for the sake of not painting the hood or removing the canards. |
I think you can keep the hood, definitely lose the eyelids and maybe the canards next to the grill. the outer canards actually look functional.
|
Throw the car away, keep the eyelids, mail me your hood, free of charge of course
|
yeah, paint the hood, and eyelids kill it for me

Never liked eyelids. They always look cheap.
I think it would look killer without the eyelids and inner canards. Your car though. |

I like it - I think the color of the hood ties in well with your roof and mirrors. I probably wouldn't have gone with the canards and eyelids personally, but with that being said, as long as you like it I wouldn't think anymore on it. It's your car, and if you like it that's what matters - you're the one driving it after all.
I would encourage you not to feel obligated to alter or change anything because your friends, or other people don't like it. I think you're going to feel conflicted if you try to stylize your car the way you want to, but also want to achieve your friends approval who are going to have their own style, ideas, etc about what looks good - that's why they have their own style, and you have yours. Nonetheless I always love seeing something really unique being done, even if it's not something that I would do - great work! |

Here's what I think would look good.
Painted hood, but leaving vents unpainted. Shortened outer cannards. No eyelids. I did a crappy photoshop of what that could look like. Attachment 61095 |
When I make your car payment I'll tell you what to change...
Seriously though you are missing a big wing. Otherwise it's befitting of your region right? Dubai baby! It's okay even if you just look the part. I personally think it looks good. A little over the top but some cars look 100x better in person. Everything about your car is nothing like what you see all the time in the sates, again it's your region. |
I like it. Why should you care what people think? Its your car, your money, you mods. PERIOD.
|
Looks like an evasive motor sports hood like on the S2Ks.
|
Well now I know for sure that I am gonna stop you for a chat if I ever spot you in Dubai. :p
