Luv my FRS
I love my FRS. It looks good, it is a rare car around my neck of the woods, it is cheap to insure, it's good on gas, it runs flawlessly, and the driving experience in the twisties is worth a lot more than the 26k I paid. I've got no crickets, no rattles, no nothing that I'd change. Thank you very much.
That is all...back to fapping. :burnrubber: |
Excellent. :-)

Crickets will probably come, so will the rattles. You will be wanting of more power the second you have to merge onto the freeway when you are going 15 and the traffic is going 65+ (I found that out yesterday).
That being said, the 86 is unique and amazing! My favorite car so far (two 03 cobras and an M3) and also the cheapest! The car is a keeper "fo sho!" Can't wait to go FI! Glad you like the car OP, the love will only grow deeper! Mine has  |
5k miles and no cricket in a 2013 made in may in the plant. I think they fixed it.

Greetings from another Asphalt owner, you'll grow to love this car man. :happyanim:

Back in the day, with my MGB, I moved from CA to CT. I was used to the on/off ramps being long and swooping. So, the first time I exited an "ON/OFF" ramp in CT, off the Merritt Pky, I discovered they were paved with bricks AND the were very sharp curves AND the getting off cars, shared the same ramps with the getting on cars ..... MG or not .... THAT was an experience ...... :eyebulge: humfrz |

I never had a problem accelerating on a freeway onramp. That's what proper gear selection is for. Pulls nicely from 5k in 2nd gear.

I live in highway-land, it's called shift effectively and keep the car in high RPM ranges. |

More power? When I want to drive fast I have a turbo charged MR2 Spyder. The FRS does just fine as a daily driver, and if driven well the FRS has plenty of power (once it's rolling) to merge onto the highway. If I ever sell the Spyder... Who knows I might add FI to the FRS. I'd be more likely to get a Cayman S. The cool thing about this car and the point of the original post is that I have no regrets about buying the FRS. Many people buy a car without any doing any research and have buyer's remorse. Some people get stuck with one of those cars that had annoying defects. I'm keeping my fingers crossed... So far so good for me.

Mine was also made in May of 2013. It had unbelievably loud crickets on the original high pressure fuel pump, plus the newest revised pump has them too. Not fixed because of date of manufacture. I think luck. |
Crickets coming in 3....2....1. Here.
|
Another theory, I never use ethanol gas. 91 or 93 non ethanol gas only. Do people with crickets use ethanol gas?

Cricket issue overblown, way overblown. If you dont care about straightline speed FRS/BRZ makes a fun sporty daily driver. enjoy.

You think San Diego doesn't have any highways? So much hate for mentioning the "elephant in the room" so to speak with this car….. keeping the car in the optimal rpm range only does so much with 200 horse. The car's power is GREAT for a DD and I really don't have any complaints most of the time, but there have been a handful of times that getting up to speed quickly has been an issue. |
For me, the bigger issue is when you're caught out of gear. It's not always possible to predict when you'll want to accelerate in the real world, and downshifting can take an extra 1-2 s, which can be the difference.
You can keep the engine at 4500+ rpm all the time, which would solve the problem, but people will think you're a douche driving like that. I admit I do this time to time when I'm in a rush, but I don't really care what other people think of me, so it doesn't bother me. Other than those situations though, I agree, 200 hp is plenty for DD in a sub-2800 lbs. car. |
