Is carbon fiber ricey?
I'm thinking about getting a vented hood so when I go for a supercharger I won't be running into heat issues. What is your opinion on a carbon fiber hood I was going to have the hood painted and just leave the vents alone but I don't know.
|
You'll be good if its painted and the vents CF. Full CF is a bit ricey if the car is not black.
IMO |

Meh.
Depends on the application. While accents of it on a OEM car from factory are nice, sometimes lightly modified with carbon fiber bits on a car can look good. Wrap is obvious and i don't quite like it. I'm just a firm believer on if you're not going for the weight savings, then just forget about it. |
I think cooling is another good reason.
Supercharger will add a ton more heat to the engine bay. |

Yes.

Is this ricey? Yes.
http://frs-tuner.skipthediet.com/wp-...Body_Kit_9.jpg Is this ricey? No. Attachment 60373 Planning on doing this with my Ultramarine when I get some more cash, regardless of whether or not I get a supercharger/turbo. |
big time, even oem carbon fiber is. Its unnecessary
|
Who cares what other people might consider "rice?" At the end of the day, it's your car, your money, and your taste. There's nothing wrong with wanting things because they just plain-ol just look good. If every mod had to be strictly performance oriented, why don't we have better drivers on the road?

Faux carbon fiber vinyl wrap = yes
real stuff = no I think real cf parts on a street car is more baller status than anything. I tend to do a double take if I happen to see real cf on cars, the real stuff is pretty rare to see around here. Cf also gets hazy and cloudy quickly so Ide recommend paint, its worth it (I had a cf hood and trunk on my mk4 GLI, wrapped it in satin black vinyl and left accents of the real stuff, looked really good imo). |
dry carbon no, wet carbon yes.
|
So....you're basing a large purchase on other people's opinions of how it looks?
If it's not a show car tailoring to a specific group of likes, then run whatever the hell you want and be proud of it. |
Just do whatever you want.

Depends. IMO, carbon fiber "looks" ricey, but it's not if there's a true need (e.g. weight). But I think it borders rice when the part isn't entirely CF, and it's just for show.
|
My personal definition of "Rice" is something that is intended to make the car seem modified to be faster but in reality serves no useful purpose. Bonus points if it somehow manages to make the car slower.
A vented hood will probably help, so it doesn't meet my criteria. If you like the look of carbon fiber, go for it. |

I'm looking at getting a carbon hood, not because it's cool, but because I'm getting a FB turbo kit installed and need to deal with engine bay heat.
Most carbon hood offerings are heavier than the stock aluminum hood. I do plan on painting and leaving some carbon exposed on the vents. |
Its all good do what you like. I too am getting the Seibon carbon fiber hood because some a***** hit my car and ran away. So now it would be stupid for me not to change the looks instead of increasing the speed sensor insurance is picking up half the tab. In the end it says in other person said your car is your story don't let anybody else right for you. And if they don't like it .... them lol

I put a vented CF hood on my car since I have a turbo installed. The vent is directly over the turbo and helps dissipate the heat, which is key here in FL. I really don't care what other people think. It's functional, so F them if they don't like it. Having said that, I'll probably paint it in a couple of years if it starts fading.
|
Who f*cking cares? If you like it, if it's functional, or looks good to you, why does it matter if it's ricey or whatever other names you'd get called for having it? Be a leader, not a follower.

I think its funny how offended people seem to get by the appearance of faux, stick on, crap people spend money to throw on their cars. But spending tons of money to blow up their engines and add bright accents and custom paint is de riguer. I like my decals, they make me smile, so make fun if you want to, I'm not envious of those who want to take a 30,000 dollar car and spend another 30 to 40 grand to make it into a racer street or otherwise, I just wonder why not buy a 60,000 dollar car? And then slap a sticker on it? Just kidding. I like all of the expensive mods too, just not ready to cross the line on it yet. Plus, I actually enjoy the hell out of the stock car to begin with, yeah it looks faster than it is, and the wheels and tires could've been better, but for a blank canvas at the price, who could ask for more? I've yet to see a BRZ, FRS, GT86 that I hate. Everyone gets to be an individual and I look forward to seeing more and more.

That's the hood that's 1st in the running for my car.
|
Fitment is spot on. The gaps are right in line with the OEM hood. I'm very pleased with it overall. The only thing I think would be an improvement is a shield to help protect against rain, but I can always make one.
|
Ordered my TS hood a few days ago with my 10mm OS fenders. Got to wait till Jan for delivery though :-( I'll post pics when I get it all done. Going to paint the fenders and then going to look at the hood before I decide to paint it. If I do paint it i'll leave the vents CF.
|
Replacing the fake looking CF on the car with the real thing is all I want to do. Rear bumper cover and the fog light bezels, and eventually the interior pieces on the passenger console, and vents. Otherwise, I'm looking at a Five Axis body kit for my Ultramarine.

https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/...13633522_n.jpg In reality nothing we have is "really" carbon fiber to a point where its autoclaved and dry CF. That being said it looks nice and do what makes you happy and it can look somewhat tasteful as shown above. |
I love CF. My only gripe is getting cheap CF that turns a weird color or has a bad weave. When done right, and not OVER doing it (ie. every possible part on the car that can be replaced is carbon fiber -- and non-matching weaves from different manufacturers) it can look really aggressive and pretty damn nice

What kind of splitters are on the front?

I have never seen a car with a full-on black/CF (unmatching) hood that I have liked, it always looks wrong/cheap/trying too hard to me. If you have one though, and you love it, that's OK with me. My opinion only counts for one person, me. :party0030: |
I guess i must be ricey. If so i don't care but i have already ordered a new cf trunk and cf gt-spec wing. Yes i am Supercharged with Kraftwerks. So please hate-a-way if you must or like if you do! Either way like other people say it's my car and it's the way i like it.!!!
