Opti-coat in nova - good price

4 Attachment(s)
Hey all, i just wanted to let anyone know that is interested i got my FRS opti-coated by this professional detailer, DJ Mayo, in nova. he did a fantastic job, his site is http://www.djmayostudios.com/. he said he would be interested in doing a group discount if enough people wanted to opticoat. it looks amazing, i got my FRS used with 2k miles on it and it had some swirls and 1 scratch, he took it all out. here are some pics of the car with the coat. he charged me $500 which i thought was a fair price although it was during a 20% off discount.

kanundrum 12-18-2013 10:52 AM

Do they have an official shop. I'd love to go check their work out

bloop 12-19-2013 05:39 PM

Count me in for a group discount. I wonder if I should fix some minor scratches first before an opticoat... But then I know it'll get scratch by a moron again anyways.

PoorMansRacing 12-19-2013 05:40 PM

Ditto. If there's a group discount, I would be interested.

minted-rose 12-19-2013 05:51 PM

count me in as well!

Stealthx 12-20-2013 11:53 PM

I need you guys down south va fort detailing shop . Opti coat is the bees knees of coatings I love it and it holds up greats. Id say that anyone applying opti coat should be polishing the paint.

incubus1995 12-22-2013 08:50 PM

sorry it took me a while to respond, work and stuff, im in law enforcement, im always busy, but when i got it done he said he would be willing to do a group discount, someone would just have to get some people together that are interested. as of right now, he doesnt have an official shop, he does the work out of his garage, his website is http://www.djmayostudios.com/. he got a lot of the minor scratches out and rubber compound before he put the opticoat on, i have to say it was dirty from the snow and stuff and it still looked clean as hell, def worth the money, if all else fails for a group discount, he works out of gainesville/bristow, about 20mins west of centreville where route 28/29 intersect. shoot him an email, really nice guy. let him know that i referred you all

As much as I agree that Opti-Coat is amazing, I don't agree with that price.

My car was scratched up to the max (courtesy of the dealership washing the car with a dirty rag just prior to delivery, because the day before, there were no scratches on it) as you can see in the "Before" pics and I was having it Opti-Coated anyway so I didn't care too much about the dealership messing it up so much.
Took it to a detailer that same night I picked up my car that was recommended by a lot of people on this forum and had him work his magic. He took out 99% of the scratches and the car looks flawless still 5 months later. He did paint correction, polishing, opti-coat all for $250!! Now granted we don't live in the same area but still, I live in one of the more expensive parts of Canada, and it still was reasonable. I wouldn't have paid $500.

A group buy / discount will begin Jan 1st for FRS/BRZ owners. I will offer same deal I did for Andrew's car.

Again, here are the photos from his paint correction and coating service.

Your link to the flickr photos appears to be broken. What is the complete list of steps that you perform before applying Opti-coat? My car is only six weeks old, and I'm considering having you apply paint protection.

DJ Mayo 12-28-2013 05:09 PM

I updated the link, hopefully that works.

The list of steps are as followed:

Citrus Wash
91% alcohol wipe down
Measure Paint
Correct paint using various pads / polishes
91% alcohol wipe down x2
Coating on paint, trim, wheels, exhaust tips.
Clean interior (non shiny or greasy product used)
Clean Glass
Clean all door jambs

If you have any other questions, just let me know.

DJ

The products he uses would be great

kanundrum 12-28-2013 07:14 PM

I see close ups of the pre paint correction but I never see the ones after. Can you tell him to take them after as well in the same lighting conditions.

FRSure 12-28-2013 10:47 PM

I'm interested in a opticoat and paint correction if the price is 500. Own a 1 week old silver frs.

If you could list the products you for paint correction as well as the type of buffers. There are a few people who would like to get their car paint corrected around the area and I am looking for a new local detailer as well

Also are you mobile or do you have a shop?

When doing local work. I work from my place which is in Gainesville / Bristow area. About 10minutes west of Manassas and 20-25 from Fairfax.

I use mainly Rupes machines for paint correction.
Compounds and polishes such as Scholls S3 Gold, Meg's 105, Menzerna FG, Sonax Perfect Finish, Meg's 205, and the list could go on. There is no set combination for any car as each is different majority of the time.

For protection I use mainly 22PLE coating / Opti-Coat / Polish Angel.

Interiors never see any of that greasy messy product, everything is always a clean dry to the touch neutral shine.

If you guys have any questions, just feel free to ask.

Thanks,
DJ
