weird windshield crack

I parked my car outside my driveway, it's clear from trees and nothing above it at all yet an hour later I came out and find a big circular crack. It's odd because I didn't find anything around it that could've caused it so I can't explain what it is. What can this be? I have insurance for windshield repair so I'm not too worried about that. I'm glad it didn't hit any of the panels but I'm curious what this was.

Looks like the round end of a Ball-Peen hammer.. Looks like Vandalism to me.

Ok that's a bit worrisome. I gotta do a closer walk around my car now.

whaap 12-16-2013 04:28 PM

Yeah. That looks like a much harder hit than just something being dropped by a bird or such.

uEih 12-16-2013 04:30 PM

I figured nothing could've dropped unless it was like a falling bullet or something that fell but there's nothing around the drive way. There's also construction going on near by but again there's so sign of anything on the ground.

Are you near the ocean?? I am and the damn seagulls drop clams and mussels to break them open. I know of a couple 86's dinged up this way.

kALMIGHTY 12-16-2013 04:36 PM

Golf ball possibly?

Not near the ocean, near a river though but I doubt anything there caused this.

That's a possibility but there are no hold courses around here. That and I literally couldn't find any sign of evidence on the ground, I was in a rush but still did a look around real quick and found no signs.

uEih 12-16-2013 04:43 PM

The crack looks like a spider web crack in the middle but around it, it's circular.

It's possible some asshat in the community decided to take a swing at a golf ball from their driveway and it ended up hitting your car. I've seen it happen once where I lived.
Those things are wicked fast so I wouldn't be surprised if it hit your car and went off somewhere else way too far away from your car.

Ah, yeah. I remember my dad giving me a good ass-whoopin' for doing sh*t like that. Can't hit kids these days, though. That's a whole 'nother problem in itself.

Quick Google.Images search for golf ball hits and there are several that look similar.

Yea probably some kids hitting stuff then, I'll try and get a clearer look when I get home. I'm just really glad it didn't dent any of the panels, that would've been a bigger problem. Also as long as somebody didn't do it intentionally I'm not gonna worry about it, I just hope it wasn't intentional.

I think its safe to say a fast-moving, small and approximately circular shaped object. What it is, nobody can tell. Rock, ball bearing, pellet, golf ball, you name it.

Mikem53 12-17-2013 10:01 AM

Meteorite , possibly kryptonite !!!
That looks like someone smacked it with a hammer or something..
I suspect foul play..

Figo 12-17-2013 10:26 AM

looks like kids were playing airsoft there.

Do I win a prize for suggesting ball bearing? Why did I think that? I used to restore and still own several pinball machines.

Some a hole did that...not by accident. Ball bearings don't drop from the sky.

White64Goat 12-17-2013 10:13 PM

Is there actually a hole through the glass? Didn't look like it in your picture.

I'll send this ball bearing to you to keep? hahaha
You think it wasn't an accident? Someone actually walked up to the car and did that? I was just thinking they played with a slingshot or something and shot it in the air and it happened to hit the wrong spot. Either that or just throwing it as far as they could not caring where it falls.

No hole, just a weblike crack in the middle and shattered glass around that. Good thing no holes as I don't have time this week to get it replaced and it wouldn't have been good if it rained.

That is smaller than a pinball. However, I also have a Pirates of the Caribbean toy (but real) pinball machine that I pimped out with LED lighting and stuff and that is probably the ball size for that machine. It is also the size ball from the old coin operated pitch and bat machines . I don't know if you are old enough to know what I am talking about. They used to be in bowling alleys.

It is to centered in your windshield I cant help thinking it wasn't an accident. Probably a kid with a wrist rocket slingshot as a ball that small probably wouldn't hit the windshield with enough force to cause that damage otherwise.

Starscream15 12-20-2013 11:38 AM

Slingshot and Ball bearing. Sad.

Unless it fell out of an aircraft or something.

Apex-Wolf 12-21-2013 01:03 AM

Birds like shiny things and I've personally seen a bird pick up a rock then drop it on my friends car lol good thing he drives an old beater maxima.

But I'm sure it was some jealous jerk
