How long did your stock tires last?

I just did my tire rotation today after 8,000 miles and noticed that i may only have 50% of tire life left. How long did your OEM tires last?

1086 12-15-2013 01:05 AM

Just read your thread and went to go test my tread out. According to the reading I have equal to or a little greater than 2/32" of tread left, meaning I am not in need of new tires just yet. I am at 11,450 miles.

bkblitzed 12-15-2013 01:06 AM

they still have a lot life in em, parking lot drifts and a few autox.

WillBRZ 12-15-2013 01:13 AM

I took mine off after 16k miles or so 15k of which was unaligned after my drop and a lot of launches and a few spirited drives and I would say they still have a solid 50% left.

2/32nd (and also the legal limit) is pretty shallow.... might want to look at another set of tires soon.

On the side note, these tires are rated for 35,000 Miles. I'm pretty sure (99.99%) that these tires have a tread life warranty. Might want to call up Michelin to see if you can get some prorated refund on these 201 dollar tires.

Edit:

Changed the tire mileage rating from 30,000 to 35,000 miles. Scion FRS are W Speed rated tires.

9800 miles, 7 autox events, 6mm left all around, i think they are holding up well for what ive put them through but ill be buying Z2s for next spring anyway so im not concerned with life

Cal3000 12-15-2013 02:07 AM

39,100 miles so far. The tread life is pretty good. I beat these tires up pretty bad.

Dezoris 12-15-2013 02:21 AM

50 miles before I got real tires.

Gen 12-15-2013 03:24 AM

I replaced mine at 15,000 and they probably had a good 70% left.

I want to say i made it to 9k miles... i was at or below 2/32, the tire started chunking off at that point. My S2000 also typically lasted 7-9k miles per set on 615's / re10's (i think those were the tires i typically ran).

Does Michelin need some type of proof in order for me to get a 2nd new set at a discounted rate? How does that work?

Can I also choose another Michelin Tire besides the stock ones?

You can take it to an Authorized Michelin retailer. Show them the tire (they must be at 2/32nds or lower), and then they would call up Michelin and then reimburse you.

I'm not sure if you can change the tires. You can try though.

Many factors affect the life of your tires, such as tread compounds, construction features, driving style, road conditions, etc., which makes exact mileage impossible to predict. However, as part of The Michelin Promise Program, all MICHELIN passenger and light truck tires (replacement & original equipment) are covered by a limited warranty for tread wear.

I'm so glad the FRS came with Michelins. They're the only tire company I would support :) Great Customer Service, they even provide free towing if your tire blew/flat changing assistance. You can count on this company to get your back for an additional year after your Scion Boost expires.

27,000 miles. Had a little life left, but winter was coming. Might have made it another 5-8k with another rotation if I lived in a warm dry climate.

Changed mine at 4/32 which clocked in at 20,000 miles. Exclusively DD use, although my DD is about 60 miles of twisty backroads. I could have ran them longer, but I couldn't stand the way they handled wet roads.

finch1750 12-15-2013 02:50 PM

Im down to the wear bars at 38k. Lots of canyon runs, an autox, and some abandon warehouse drifting.

nelsmar 12-15-2013 02:53 PM

You guys are showing me how abusive I really am to tires.

This is a pretty useless post. OP is not asking how long your tires lasted on your car, he's asking how much tread life people have gotten.

I've put 3500 miles and still at a full 9/32nds .. to be on topic.

TRDBen 12-15-2013 03:49 PM

Mine were bald and almost corded at 14k. Track day and minimum of 3 spirited drives a week

THA STI GUY 12-17-2013 12:48 AM

All 4 running two at a time got me about a day on the drift track :D

Ocean-Grown 86 12-17-2013 02:18 AM

9.5k miles of normal and hard driving and still at least 50 percent left, apart from the outsides (need more negative camber). I have the Bridgestone Potenzas btw

Gixxersixxerman 12-17-2013 02:49 AM

21k and still around 50% that's 4 autoX, and 4 trackdays, and a couple of drift sessions, but on very smooth concrete.. Think parking garage type concrete.. A few mountain runs.. But as you can see I'm not fast lol.. 1:51 I think at big willow.. Best a 1:33's at streets.. Usually around 1:35's and 4-5 secs off the best guys at the autox

FunCon5 12-18-2013 02:10 PM

The stock Michilen tires lasted 16k.

hushypushy 12-19-2013 09:39 PM

No measurement, but I'm at 18k and it looks like I have tons of meat left (50% maybe?). I do drive the car hard, but I put 70 highway miles on every day, so I get a lot of miles with not much wear...

EDIT: pulled out a tread gauge. Original tread depth is 9.5/32; my fronts were down to 6/32, rears 4/32. I find that pretty amazing for a claimed 240 treadwear. Just goes to prove that treadwear is not really a number you can compare between brands; my 180 treadwear Kumho XS (8/32) was down to practically nothing after 14k on my Miata. I wonder how long my new 200 treadwear BFG Rivals (7/32) will last...
