Possibly Trading in the BRZ

I don't want this to be a vs debate- I am looking at a totally different car

-2014 Evo X MR :burnrubber:

Any members here own or have owned an Evo? What do you like? What didn't you like etc?

I've own several STi in the past so really excited about an FI AWD platform.

I wish I could keep both vehicles but not in the stars atm.

BrianJ 12-14-2013 01:39 PM

So are you not liking the brz? Or do you need something with more practicality, more power, AWD?

MeFryRice 12-14-2013 01:40 PM

I've owned a 2006 MR a few cars ago but for the later chassis, I would stick to the GSR model simply because its a manual. The MR transmission is a known weak point if you decide to modify over 400 lbs of tq.

brz007 12-14-2013 01:52 PM

Love the BRZ- just something different :)

Don't mind the auto- don't plan to go over 400, probs will stick w/ a stage 2.

I like the Evo platform. Only concern would be what might happen with Mitsubishi in the US as well as their commitment to the platform. I would also wait to see how the new STi compares as well. My biggest complaint with the Evo would be the interior (it is basically a Lancer, and the cockpit is not really sports car/driver friendly) and the fact that the exterior styling is stale. And gas MPG sucks.

But no question it is a great car to drive.

Honestly, now that I think more about it, the new WRX is powerful.

That thing has 265 HP

What about some bolt on ? It will be a beast. There is really no need to wait for an STI which will boast another 6-8K or so

I see others do bolts on to WRX and get like 215 AWHP out of it...that is just awesome

You don't get limited slip differentials on the wrx, but if you're not going to leave it stock anyways just upgrade the differentials. To me that is more important than the power difference.

That is true.

It is not cheap for the LSD though. Also, I hear the STI weight more than regular WRX. I need more research.

Probably STI will come with body kit too

Hate the looks of the new WRX :( Subaru dealer here sucks and is not tuner friendly. Maybe in 2 year I'll trade the Evo for the new STi.

Gas mileage? It Smiles per gallon right ;)

Mobius357 12-15-2013 11:17 AM

I'm considering trading for a '15 WRX. The BRZ is a great car, but a 4 door really would be more practical for our family, have also though about trading the BRZ and my truck for an FXT. Another option would be to trade both for a '15 Colorado. crew cab and 6ft bed in a smaller truck would be great, and the v6 should share aftermarket with the camero. There's really a lot going on right now, tons of good options. Keeping the BRZ and getting the electric SC and saying "to hell with practicality, the wife has a sedan" sounds good too.

Planning 2 new cars in advance? You either have deep pockets or just don't care how financially retarded that is

Mitsubishi is notoriously ****ish to people who mod their cars, and they look hard for it with Evos. Ultimately you have to do what makes you happy.

Yeah i was in your shoes before, i wanted to trade my frs for a ralliart only because it is practical (not for a family since i am single). But in the end i think the frs is a unique looking car that i would like to keep for a long time.

Darkrune 12-15-2013 04:47 PM

I modded a '12 Evo X to 500 BHP and it was fast, but the car lacks spirit. The interior is pretty horrible and the gas mileage as noted above it terrible. I am in love with the BRZ. I traded in around thanksgiving and I am not looking back. Oh, if you are gonna get the Evo to mod it heavily, get the GSR. The MR tranny can't handle much torque without dropping a ton of cash on it.

Do what you must

This was not a tread about my finances. This was to get input from people who have owned/own Evos. I like to flip cars, it's fun and I am good at it.

OmarGC 12-15-2013 09:35 PM

I had a 08 WW GSR. Loved it, made great power on 93 octane and simple bolt ons + basic fuel mods.(371/303). Not to mention the ease of fitting wide wheel combinations underneath the stock body. For a car of its size, it handles amazingly... A lot better then my previous GD chassis STI's that were heavily modified.

As for the interior, I never owned another Mitsubishi until after buying my X, which was an earlier gen Evo (vi). However, I owned multiple Wrx's and sti's. Pre GR models and will say the X interior is better then the GD interiors. However, I maybe a little biased to the recaros.

I'd definitely stay away from the MR model...

OmarGC 12-15-2013 09:36 PM

If I don't make sense I apologize... I'm a little out of it.

I would always take the STI transmission - with DCCD and two limited slips - over a beefed up WRX transmission with aftermarket limited slips. It's just a better place to start from.
