Las Vegas Media Long Lead Event, 4/20/2012 Scion FRS

Does this FRS deserve the Hachiroku name? I think it does, because I can refer either the AE86 or the FT86 in the old phrase, You don't know how to drive, till you master the Hachiroku ---Moto Miwa |
Wow. Thanks for sharing!

Well damn, you beat me to post your review. LOL
It was an awesome review! |
Sweet more reviews from community members. This car must feel like a dream come true Moto. I know everyone on club4ag has been speculating about a "new" AE86 for many years.

"Then I thought about the time I tried in a NSX… Can this car be THAT balanced where it just can’t push enough weight around and over to hold a steady state at 10mph due to sheer lack of traction on deep water? Is the car that good? Is the threshold of balance so thin in this particular case where simple depth of water and surface change can upset the balance?
Then I set out again, not minding the AE86-ness much, and being as delicate and fine toed with my shoes as the old NSX mode. Success! The answers to the previous questions were, YES, YES, and YES. The FRS is so well balanced on the four tires, and making the low-grip Eco tires do so much work, that upsetting the car at only 10mph, and with hydro-planing depth affected the contact patch a LOT more than the usual car we are accustomed to do it with. Front and rear just has to be very evenly poised to hold a drift in this car at this trick. But you know what? This is a sign… It is a sign that I should be REALLY happy, as this car just totally required 100% of my concentration already. And to be totally proficient at this trick, I would need another 10 years of fun-filled practice with a teacher like FRS! 25 points!! On the skidpad, this is a same caliber car as a Lotus Elise S2! At 1/3 the price tag!" Nice! |

Thanks for sharing Moto-san! It looks like you and Ichi had fun @ Spring Mountain. Seeing Ichi's video of Spring Mountain looks completely different than the last time I was there. It looks like a whole new track with a lot of new amenities!
|
Well written and very thorough. Nice job!

Just finished reading your review, its great how a big company like Toyota involves grassroots enthusiast on development of a niche car. Moto you made us proud.

Thanks Moto, what a great article. This is what these cars are all about. Long-term ownership, ongoing development, growing familiar with every element of it's character.

It's OUR TURN!

Yes, and all of us in the web community must lose the politics, become buddies and share knowlege, no one is above the movement and no one will call this a fad. It's up to all of us, where ever, whatever, to be sharing and having fun. So that a car like this can sustain a great future. You guys, it is ALL on you now. Toyota and Subaru has done their parts, and its up to us to call it the new HACHIROKU or whatever you want to call it. That was my aim from the start and that is what I promised to Mr.Tada , when I was asked for my role. His job was for the 6 years of development, now it is us to take it the next 25 years, just as the last one. |
I'm thinking to gather some AE86's and other classics to do a meet with some of the early FRS owners... :) Trying to find when Mr.Tada can attend. Perhaps in the summer? ANyone interested?
|
Moto-san, I am! I am! I don't think, I'll have my FRS/BRZ... but I'll be attending to take some photos & see all the fans!

I'd be down to get something going. Just one more month and a couple days to get my whiteout FRS. We should have a countdown lol.
|
I'm thinking in the fall sometime, so there is enough time for many more owners to join?

I'm interested!!
|
Better if there are 2 events. One in the West coast and one in the East.
|
I am a previous AE86 owner and soon to be FR-S owner. I would love to attend.
|
Thanks Moto for the excellent write-up!! This is some of the best and most insightful info I've read about this car.
I've also spent some time on club4ag in think it's great that Toyota involved the enthusiast community in the design of this car. I loved reading your comments from that perspective. I'll try to make the trip down to socal for this event if you put it together! |
Anywhere in AZ/NV/CA I would be there. IN FACT, I already plan to drive my FRS to Formula Drift : Vegas in August. We've got a few first86ers pre-committed to an FT86 Meet for FC:Vegas, soooooo~

And why not include the heritage cars as well, AE86, Sports 800, and even have 2000GT... I'm sure it will be just fine, I know just the right folks for those too! And thinking do this epic journey every two years... Tada San will join in on the last leg, he says. :). Perhaps other key folks as well. |
