How heavy is the trans? How are you able to do it on jack stands?

I read somewhere on the DIY's it was 86 pounds. It felt like so. Yes, car should be jacked up stands ~ 18 inches though to slide the tranny out. So > 18" jack for tranny and = or > to support the engine via oil pan with padding.

I used a piece of wood on the tranny jack to give it a flat surface to balance on.

rb6freak 12-19-2013 04:35 PM

Turbo goes in starting tomorrow :-) I'll be following up with photos and video as the project goes on.

Another shot my friend took while dropping the tranny.

Hah, thanks. I can't afford gold wheels, but gold sticky rubber is a must for the track ;-)

Not a daily yet, just a weekender and light track fun. Might be using it as a daily in the future. Yeah for sure, I've been wanting to go to 86 meets but I threw her up on stands as soon as I got her. Should be ready in a few weeks.

Oil line feed installed.

Spring clamps added to evap lines to hold under boost. These things were a pain to install.

Factory overpipe and shielding removed. Biggest puzzle piece I've had to remove yet. Would have been much easier when I had the tranny removed.

New overpipes installed.

Rota center caps.

Intercooler mounted. Sorry PTuning, not trying to hide the logo. Just trying to be less "flashy". It is still there but very faint. I chose the red IC piping to really show off the fine work when I pop the hood ;-)

Nice build man. What alignment settings are you running with the springs? Would 245 width fit? Any rubbing?

Ninth_Cloud 01-18-2014 08:16 AM

Good stuff, can't wait for some more progress.

jdm-az-fuk 01-18-2014 10:04 AM

Good thread... I have always wondered about the install process of this kit.

Any plans on going with an aftermarket header?

@RB6freak, I recommend you reposition the WG barb fittings to make sure the boost line is away from the bottom of the vehicle as shown below:

Thank you. I only have about 20 miles on the tires, haven't had the chance for an alignment. I'm not getting one right away until I break in the car. Also, I may be changing the suspension setup too. Once I get it on the track a few times I will know which direction to take.

245 - I doubt it without a spacer on the front. My 235's are maybe 10mm from rubbing the spring. I haven't had any rubbing issues locking the wheel side to side and going up driveway at an angle.

Another pic heavy update. Completed the turbo install and started her up for the first time after loading a base map. Still in the debugging / spot checking / leak checking phase. It will be a bit before I can get her on the road. Super excited to get this far. So far everything seems to be going fairly well.

Corrected wastegate fitting per Mrc@PTuning. Thank you!

Absolutely! I've been recording video from multiple cameras and snapping tons of pictures during the install. I'm planning on a full video review and more. I will most likely do this around March after getting a good tune and on the track a few times.

We got some great prices on ohlins in case don't already have coilovers. Will give you more inside clearance and great for the track and street :)
