Watched a Civic blow a motor on the freeway
 

Just one of those freak things.

I was taking my wife to work at 7:00am last Saturday. We were doing about 70mph in the slow lane on I-5 and were passed by a lowered flat-black three-door Honda Civic hatch with an enormous fart cannon exhaust. Of course we both stopped talking to stare because the noise was so distracting. He was doing maybe 75-80mph in the fast lane. About a hundred yards ahead of us, he was suddenly engulfed in a cloud of dark grey smoke. We watched him coast up an offramp, completely full of smoke. It was pretty sad.
Not being a Honda guy, I couldn't say what year range the car was, just that it was all flat black and lowered, with a dark tail lamp and window tint. I felt real bad for the guy, whoever he was, but I had to giggle just a little. I'm a bad man. :-(
Hopefully he was OK. It was SO cold that morning, and so close to Christmas. No one deserves that.
Pretty random story, I know, but it was the first time I'd ever witnessed something like that NOT at a racetrack.

I've seen 3 cars blew their motors on the highway. The scariest one was a Ford pick up that was driving next to me and I heard a loud boom. The hood was pushed up and it scared the crap out of me. Sounded like someone fired a cannon next to my car.

This is usually what happens when the car gods smite the offending civic for blasphemy (pulling on a superior car) :D

Exactly. Most of them bring it on themselves. I've seen a few well-put-together modded civics. They're usually built for track, not street racing, running race gas, etc. Usually means the driver isn't an idiot either.

I've seen a school bus blow a motor on the highway, fire and smoke was coming out it like a bonfire. R.I.P all those little kids. Jk there were no kids in it.

Yep, cause no one in non-Honda's ever blow motors.

I've been studying and doing homework all week, it was necessary lol.

Blew a few bottom ends back in my day, the best one being a 50 shot of NOS on a turbocharged single cam. Pushing the car back to the shop wasn't very fun.

I probably would have pulled over to make sure he at least had a phone on him to get help.

I'm definitely not an elitist but these two Hondas are the only ones worth anything.

I wouldn't mind a NSX as a 5th or 6th car. The S2K.. I doubt I'll ever go back there. :thumbup:

Yeah. I actually thought about doing that, but I was dropping my wife at work, she works at a hospital, and we would have needed to get off at the next exit and double back. :-(

I'll skip Integra and CRX because they're well known enough that I know you've already dismissed them, probably as 'econo-box-trash'. Let's just toss in that because you didn't specify cars only you've dismissed a dominant heritage of sport and dirtbikes, they make a mean 2 stroke.

Had an 84 Civic S that I bought new. $7400 f'n awesome value for the time.
Kept it stock and loaded miles on it all over for 11 years.

On a 2 week vacation down the coast and back it munched itself.
Turns out that the water pump is driven off the cam belt. The pump froze and the interference valves said "HI !!!!" to the pistons.
Luckily I was doing 40 in a 40 zone and had a place to pull over only 3 miles from getting back home.

Got it fixed, but sold it shortly after that. Still like that hatch body style. You could actually see out the rear quarters.

Steering has zero feel. Needs a bar/cage to track (for someone with my toro height anyways), limited space/usefulness. Great trans and engine though.

It's one of the few cars that I've owned that I've never since missed.

One of the really nice things about the whole BRZ/FRS/GT86 community is that it brought together people from all different automotive enthusiast backgrounds - Subaru, Honda, BMW, Mazda, etc... It annoys the piss outta me when people talk down about another person's car.

What others do with their cars shouldn't decide which cars *YOU* enjoy driving. :thumbup:

It's inevitable, it cycles and if you take it too seriously you're just as annoying as the uppity kids who think their post (or any post) has value or weight beyond monkeys at a keyboard.

Stick to the posts that are interesting useful and entertaining to you, let the rest slide. I'm personally proud of myself for only posting one or two comments on stance, staying out of build threads and the cosmetic mods section.
