http://www.eventbrite.com/event/3405029535
Scion FR-S FIRST DRIVE - Baltimore Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM (ET) Baltimore, United States http://ebmedia.eventbrite.com/s3-bui...691/1/logo.jpg |
I'll be there from 11am - 1pm (have 11am and 12pm slots so my wife can drive it and someone can watch our kiddos while we are out there). Anyone else going?
Just signed up for the 3-4 slot. My pre-order is in for a BRZ, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting behind the wheel of an FRS.
Would love to sign up and go beat the crap out of an FR-S so I don't have to do it on my BRZ test drive. ;)
Probably too much of a drive though, and I'll likely have other commitments that day. Ah well, y'all have fun. |
Signed up for the 1-2 timeslot. I have a BRZ on preorder, but doesn't hurt to drive the scion at no cost.
Honestly from what I have tried, it looks like the other events have not been created yet. I will check back this weekend and try to spoof more URLs and see if they have been created.
GAH! I have finals that morning/day.
I'm in the 2-3 slot.
Who elso is doing the 2-3 slot? show ya face. |
2pm
I will be there from 2-3pm with a couple of friends who signed up also.
I think I signed up for the early slot, Ill be there
1-2 for me...although since I'm a Toyota employee and Scion sales person I could go at the unposted 9-10 or 10-11 sessions, but I don't want to wake up so early
Anyone know if there will be one of these events closer to NY? Or do they not care about us :(
I wish it werent a 3 hour drive for me. Due to that, I wont be going.
I wonder if there will be any aftermarket manufacturers there?

What??? My drive is 3 1/2 hrs. I wanna make sure I am going to like this thing before I have the dealer putting the pressure on me. Plus I can get a first hand track test which would be something that you wont get to do at the dealership.
Oh, I already have a test drive planned out. There is a very windy road right by the dealer that I will be exploiting.
If I understood the other test drive threads correctly, they only had automatics and you cant turn off any of the assists. Not really worth the gas for me when my car should be here in a few weeks. |

I saw an FRS driving by the Inner Harbor when I was jogging, so I ran by the stadium lot and saw that the Yokohama tent and cones are up. I might try to stop by the tent tomorrow at lunch.
Got back a little while ago. I drove in the 9am group. Only got to do two quick laps, was hoping for a bit more. Barely enough to get a good impression of the car. I had never driven a sports car before, so I can't really give comparisons or even a decent review, but on the 2nd lap I did I pushed the car more than I did the first time. It was really easy to keep it under control despite throwing it into corners that might threaten to flip a larger car. Was definitely a lot of fun, and yes, I was smiling after I got out.
Wife & I did 9 also.
Surprise! Free caps! And a, um, very-well-defined course. Cars were all TRD'd up - springs(slight saggy butt to my eye), exhaust, & Yoko S.drive tires. All auto trannies, which shifted imperceptibly, I did not try manual mode. Steering was direct, although somewhat muted in feel. Quite a bit of understeer, but they probably tuned that in on purpose. Brakes were a bit sudden, but easy to modulate. Sound was quite pleasant, inside & outside. The muted interior, even the seat and its (manual) controls, was very VW-ish, meant as a positive. Rear seats are, as pointed out elsewhere, of little use unless folded down (lowers the CG, of course). Wife likes red, with everything that was on the cars we drove. Plus seat heat... |
I was at the 9 am one also, and the car was pretty awesome, definitely not what I was expecting. I'm kinda torn between the frs and brz now, not to mention I have no idea what color to get when I do get one. I was a little disappointed that we only got two laps and that we couldn't see the difference between a stock car the ones that were setup with the trd stuff. But all in all it was a good experience. I took a decent amount of pictures (that I'll post shortly), and the scion people were awesome. Hopefully next time I'm driving one it'll be my own.
had a great time, thanks Scion, Yokohama and Urban Racer!
Props to Scion and Yokohoma for the event!!! I got there early and went with the 3pm group...right after the rain.
My first car oversteered and my second car understeered. I forgot which colors I had...still, in spite of all the glowing reviews, the experience was just unexpectedly awesome to experience first-hand: the handling, the seating position, the sound, etc. were all just about right (though to be fair, the TRD exhaust, springs, and stickier tires impacted all of this). I cannot WAIT to have one of these for my own. |
TRD exhaust sounded amazing. Definitely an option I will consider.
I was there at the 2-3 session and I must say WOW. Great event and amazing car. I went in with the impression that it was a good car but proved to be a great car. I think that we should all first off sit back and take a look at the track that we all drove around. I have done several auto x events and I must say for any vehicle much bigger than the FR-S this course would have been impossible. It was so damn tight. If you made it around the course without hitting any cones then you will probably be a pro at the auto x events.
Second, Congrats to Scion on this one of a kind car. Though I wish that we could have driven a stock FR-S along with the prepared FR-S. This just means that I will have to spend an extra grand or so to make it feel just as it did at the event. Like I said the prepped FR-S's handle beautifully. 5/5 rating for me. |
