Front bumper blues

Well... I've gone and done it. Wasn't paying attention and wound up scraping the bottom of the front bumper up.
You really can't see the damage unless you're looking at it from the ground, but its always there in the back of my mind. As an excuse though, I did come from 4x4 trucks and have never had a car like this.

Anyone else accidentally forgotten to stop short?

RojerLockless 12-07-2013 02:13 PM

Yup

sprintertrueno86 12-07-2013 02:44 PM

Nope.

But I did scrape on a unpaved road. :(

Brndn704 12-07-2013 02:53 PM

i scrape all day erryday.

636 12-07-2013 02:53 PM

Hello Rinn310 ...... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/wave.gif

Oh yes, I think a lot of us have run up on a parking stop or two....:(

Now, that you have "broken in" the paint under the front bumper ...... here are some variations to watch out for:

* parking stops that are not in line with the rest of them

* stops that are not perpindicular with the parking lines

* stops that are placed in a random fashion

* not all stops are the same height

* some stops have the re-bar pins that stick up

I just don't look under there anymore ..... hey, it's plastic and it won't rust.

Also, if someone points it out to me ..... they need to get a life!

Mine has some scrapes under there, im pretty sure they sold it to me like that because the car was driven from Houston to Dallas by some yahoo and had 255 miles on it when i picked it up :(

Cant see it unless the car is in the air, it does bug me tho

I drove straight into a parking stop because I forgot it was there :mad0260:, fortunately (??????) all that ended up happening was scraping the shit out of the bottom of my bumper, can't see it unless you look under the car

DarkCard 12-07-2013 04:57 PM

Hah. you should see my undercarriage

Luis_GT 12-07-2013 05:42 PM

Not a single car at my house has a scratch free bumper...

Agreed 100%. Sadly it bothers me more than anything sadly.

Maybe I'll buy a mod or something to make up for it

I've only ever scraped going out of my friend's community's entrance (it has a really steep ramp) and it happens to scrape there almost every single time unless there's no traffic around and I can take my sweet time going at an angle to avoid it. Luckily, I've had the bottom of my front bumper covered in Xpel Ultimate so it hasn't actually gotten to the paint yet but I do hate that scraping noise and it's basically unavoidable with these cars. And I'm at stock height!

The one time I did forget to stop early enough in a parking spot though, the curb happened to be really low and my bumper didn't even touch it. I would have cried if it did. :(

Missy 12-07-2013 05:59 PM

I'm getting a new front bumper due to the accident but I guarenteed you I'll probably somehow do it again..

Granted the way I got mine was stupid and I'll never be driving off the road again -_-

What kind of exhaust mods don't require a retune without hurting performance noticeably? Catbacks I believe?

Out of sight, out of mind.

Get some spray pant and cover it up. Match close enough!

I had an acorn or walnut drop on my hood. UGH!!!! Just a tiny dent, but I see it EVERY time I look.

Or just an axle back will give your car that sports car sound. No tune required.

I scraped the plastic under cover (not sure of the official name) on a parking stop and pulling into a gas station. Gas station could have been prevented by going slower than I already was yet did not want to get rear ended by dumb asses behind me. Scraped the bumper on my tC and it is only lowered by TRD lower springs. Need to get over it and move on. It just may happen again.

Did you do the install personally or have it done by a third party? Seems as if its two bolts at the flange and the rest is slipping it into the hangers otherwise?

Luis_GT 12-07-2013 10:42 PM

That thing'll get annoyingly loud once you mount a header on...

No header in the plans for me personally.
Eventually I'm planning on dropping an innovate SC kit on it, but from what I understand the factory airbox and exhaust are more than sufficient for the amount of power I'm planning on getting out of the car.
The only reason I'm thinking axleback is to change the sound of the exhaust.
