Got hit in the garage at work today. She called security and owned up to it and we traded information and everything. It's my first experience with insurance companies and my first accident. Wish me luck!

P.S. Can anyone in NoVa give me some good shop recommendations?

[EDIT]To those of you wondering I'm using the Blackvue DR500. I did a review on it a while back: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46712
It's not great, but it gets the job done.

Any pics of the damage?

People need to learn how to drive.

They're not great because of where I was parked and the sunlight hitting the paint, but basically she hit the areas of the car that has sharp, protruding angles.

DaJo 12-05-2013 10:49 PM

At least she owned up to it. Sorry to see it damaged... Hope you get it looking like new again.

Missy 12-05-2013 11:13 PM

I'm so glad it's not too bad. Hopefully it'll be fixed ASAP and you'll have her back, you def get seperation anxiety with this car. Haha

Also I want one of these damn cameras..

FRSTRM 12-05-2013 11:15 PM

Exactly why I got a dash cam :) luckily I haven't needed it for this... Sorry this happened to you!

Lonewolf 12-05-2013 11:15 PM

It's amazing that she owned up to it...maybe there is hope for humanity after all...

humfrz 12-05-2013 11:30 PM

UGH - that's a nasty scrape .....:(

However, it looks like it should fix up pretty easy... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...ages/smile.gif

Turkish 12-05-2013 11:34 PM

Ouch! Glad it seems to be working out well since she owned up to it.

ApolloSki 12-05-2013 11:38 PM

Insurance company should be a breeze since you have that nifty dash cam.

Pbrown 12-05-2013 11:38 PM

I must say

WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!! Morons like this is why my car never sees parking lots. Stay off the fucking roads douche!!!!!!:(:bonk::barf::bonk::thumbdown::mad025 9::mad0260::brokenheart: and finally :sigh:

Sorry to see this.

DoopaTroopa 12-05-2013 11:46 PM

I appreciate everyone's well wishes. She left a note on my car before she went to security. It said something like "I hit your car. If you get this before I can notify security, my number is XXX-XX-XXXX." Seeing as how she did the right thing I didn't even get mad. I just said "Ma'am are you hurt?" "No." "Then don't stress about it. Let the insurance people deal with it. Just go to work and sweat it off"

I thought it was pretty funny too how the security officer was like "What's that? Is it a... uh-uh a Supra?"

Screw Loose Dan 12-05-2013 11:53 PM

Glad you took it in stride. Accidents happen. We have all had brain farts. Some get caught on camera, some don't. Some people own up and some don't. It's good she owned up to doing it and even better you didn't make the situation any worse for her.

In the original photo footage can you read the plate number?

kALMIGHTY 12-05-2013 11:54 PM

I found a door ding on my car today after owning it without a scratch for almost 5 months!! I parked so far away from the entrance where there were no cars near me and while eating at the restaurant, I looked out the window and I saw this guy drive past my car in his truck, then turn around and come back to park right next to my car. I saw this redneck guy getting out of the truck and walk away. I came back to my car about 10 minutes later and noticed a ding on the door matching up to the height of the corner of his door.

It took all the strength in me to not cave his door in with my foot. :mad0259:

I'll probably try that homemade PDR trick with the hair dryer and compressed air at some point.

But anyway, mine is nowhere near as bad as yours, but I'm sure she'll be looking brand new in no time, especially since the other driver owned up to it and her insurance will take care of you.

It's very difficult to make out. If she would have kept driving, I wouldn't have any other way of knowing who she was.

86-tundra 12-06-2013 12:05 AM

Shouldn't be too bad, looks like all plastic damage to me. Hope you have a speedy repair :)

DANG .....Pbrown ...... I'd be more worried about you having a stroke ...... before your car would get mashed up .... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...images/ack.gif

2beFrank 12-06-2013 01:23 AM

Good for her, and good for you on your response to the situation! Neat dash cam though. It records with the car off? What model is it?

olaHalo 12-06-2013 01:37 AM

My dash cam only records when the car is turned on.
Maybe I should get a better one so if I get in an incident like yours...

Luis_GT 12-06-2013 01:41 AM

Sucks! at least there're still good people left in this world... many would have done the hot and run...

N1rve 12-06-2013 01:50 AM

That's one nasty scratch.

Looking at a bumper, head light, blinker, and a bezel.

Looking at maybe 800 dollars worth of damages?

Kazuya 12-06-2013 02:15 AM

This is one of the better "Curse" we had, the damage dealter owned up to it and you got a dashcam but it is always saddening to see another twin hurt :(

vinh359 12-06-2013 05:18 AM

What kind of dash camera do you have?

marcosowns 12-06-2013 11:19 AM

We all have brain farts while driving, we're not perfect. The fact that she went out of her way to notify you and own up to it speaks volumes to her character. It sucks, but hopefully the repair will bring it back to like-new condition. It can always be worse!

DarkSunrise 12-06-2013 11:25 AM

That's awesome that she owned up to it.

My wife cuts corners sometimes in parking garages. She hasn't hit anything yet, but I always warn her about it. I'm going to send her this video lol.

Kimsey47 12-06-2013 11:34 AM

Great she owned up to it, but proof why I fear minivan drivers! ;) GLW getting her fixed up and back on the road.

Details ? My children door dinged my car I'm trading in on my FR-S, and I'd love to see if I could get rid of a few of them, they were nice enough to chip the paint though, so i'm not sure I can fix them.

hahaha

you would understand if you had to deal with Ottawa drivers... in reality Pbrown is pretty chill.

I got hit in a parking lot back in the summer, my dash cam was not setup right at the time to catch the hit and the guy took off... front bumper had to be replaced! insurance deductible later. :mad0260:

FR-S Matt 12-06-2013 01:02 PM

Note to self, never park on corners of parking garages, including my one at work. I purposely park more to the left side of the spots to prevent driver side door dings... lol. Otherwise, I park far away from anyone at stores I go to.

Unfortunate man... love your dash cam btw. Glad you had video evidence if the owner didn't come forward. Makes me want to invest in one for this reason.

BlueDubbinTDI 12-06-2013 01:10 PM

I need a dash cam...

STIITS 12-06-2013 01:22 PM

Ouch, sorry this happened dude.

Note to self:

Don't park near turn in parking garage.

Looking at the bottom right hand corner of the video, I'm going to guess it's the DR500HD?

http://www.smartcamdirect.com/blackvue_dr500.html

Also, that sucks dude. It irks me sometimes when I park far from other cars in parking lots yet often come out to find old pickup trucks and minivans parked next to me...when there are several other spots closer to the mall/work/etc. What's more is when they don't just park next to me...but right up against the car making it damn near impossible to open my door without tapping my door up against theirs. Makes me wonder how they got out in the first place.

Aaand that's when you accidentally shove your knee into their panel and carefully get in your car

brzr 12-06-2013 03:20 PM

:(

it's good to hear she didn't take off

i have a huge fear from van, suv drivers, corollas, and mazda 3's lol

DoopaTroopa 12-06-2013 09:46 PM

@2beFrank @olaHalo @vinh359 @trekkie - I've updated my first post so you guys can see my review on my dash cam.

@FR-Sh86 got it right. It's a Blackvue DR500. No WiFi and no GPS. It's hooked up to a Power Magic Pro, which is a separate unit hardwired into the inside fuse box to allow it to run when the car is off. With my current settings I usually have about, maybe, 30 hours of footage before it overwrites itself and the camera will automatically shut off after three days if I don't start my car, so it doesn't kill the battery.

For all you other Blackvue users, be careful how low you set your G sensor sensitivity. When she struck my car it didn't register as an event and kept it in parking mode. I'm an absent minded person so I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed anything until it was too late and the footage would have been long gone.

LOL My wife drives a 3. It's been up,down, sideways, and backwards through the wringer with dents and people backing up into her. We try to park close together at home(apartments) to avoid dings as much as possible. Like this: http://www.the370z.com/members/fairl...4-image-1.jpeg

Lol! The cars in that link look like they are huddled together afraid.

logoris 12-07-2013 12:38 AM

you may have some luck with the insurance look up the price of some headlights you like, and bumper, it may be cheaper to go aftermarket rather then factory parts, and insurance companies are out to pinch pennies, few people i know just go straight to aftermarket do to the fact it would be couple hundred cheaper

If you're still looking for a repair shop, I'm an estimator at craftsman autobody in Gainesville. I'd be happy to oversee the repairs and that way you'd know a fellow 86er is taking care of your baby (body shops can be careless). Any idea what insurance company it's going through?
