turbo tune dfw
Anyone know very reputable tuner in DFW area? I purchased the PTuning turbo kit. Thanks.
|
just wondering if there's any other suggestion than AWDtuning?

D3PE in houston

I sold my stock wheels to a fellow near me driving a Subaru Legacy (I think it was a 03 - 05 model).
He had a turbo installed by AWDTuning and could not say enough positive things about them. |

I just bought my diff through them. Pretty nice guys. They do a lot of Supras and have an FRS that they are developing a turbo kit for. Also there is ATS Racing in Denton. Last I heard they were a dealer for Dynotronics who are located in New Braunfels. Don't quote me on that though. |
I would love to hear a followup if you go with AWDTuning. that is the turbo kit and shop I was looking at.

haha alright man. I will give you a PM or post here the review of AWD. Or if I find somewhere better, I will let you know also!
|
+1 to powerhouse racing!
i'm having my turbo kit built by them as well |
Everyone shop has mixed reviews. People aren't honest when stuff happens *shrug* I've heard negative about every shop in the DFW area at one point or another. Just find one your comfortable with.
AWD did my Supercharger and I have not had any problems that were not due to my own fault. |
i've heard more and "seen" more negative reviews and disasters from AWDtuning then i have heard good things , but of course i have heard good things about them to me it's really just the luck of the draw if you go to them.

AWD does really good quality work. They've been around for a long time and know a lot about subaru motors. I think there will always be good and bad reviews about shops when you get as much traffic as they do. With that said.. Even with bad reviews they still get a lot of clients. Also I think some customers have ridiculous expectations. Just my .02 Mary and Keith are good ppl |

Aaron has done a great job on the turbo kit and he is always more than willing to answer questions about his kit. |

Hahah.. Yah It happens.. you have a very unique name so I figured it was you :D

Aaron the owner of ATS Racing in Denton has experience tuning his Turbo FRS. I know that he has done over 200 tunes on his FRS. He is at ~360 WHP on E85 currently. Send them an email if you have any questions. They don't tend to answer the phone.

Do we have experience with turbos and superchargers that we didn't install or make? Yes. We have tuned a handful of both. We have installed (and tuned) a Vortech kit. We have troubleshooted (troubleshot??) and corrected various setups, as well as did the tuning. Do we install whatever vendor's turbo/supercharger kit (or any other product for that matter)? Absolutely! Do we make/sell our own turbo setup? Yes! BUT, we won't/can't do anything less than a COMPLETE setup. Turbo, fuel pump, injectors, our clutch, labor, tuned. We hand build the manifold from scratch, to the car. So yes, that means we will not mail order a kit. We've discussed it, but as of now it's an "eh" thing. Do we answer the phone? Yes. And also no. We are a total of 4 people at the shop. Two of us work around school schedules (our own or our children's ). We are all in the shop, so unfortunately calls go unanswered more than we'd like. Emails are answered within an hour usually. Or stop by, we usually like visits. If all goes right, I will be buying the shop FRS in a few weeks (hence signing up here). Maybe the wife will allow me out once or twice before the baby comes (Christmas Eve). I hope this doesn't come off as a commercial post? |
It comes off as informative and appreciated!

Cool. I saw there's a forum rule about it, so I tried to leave out as many details as possible while answering some of the questions/comments I've seen about us.

I'll just leave this here..

Nice! Stock block? I ask because that's the power level we built Aaron's car for, but a trusted shop gave us info we later found out was completely wrong, so we left his at the conservative 360rwhp it is now. I was going to turn it up to 400 once it's mine, but the originally planned 450 is awfully tempting..
And excellent job BTW! |

Yes it's on a stock block for now. I'll have the internals in by next summer but with a motec and some work done to the head for better flow. I don't normally use this map, but this is the highest setting, so you can have an idea of what the lower maps might push. I had to sit in the trunk on map 3 and 4 to gain traction. On Map 4 the car was still losing traction with me in the trunk Map 1 8.5psi 297whp Map 2 11psi 352whp Map 3 14.5psi 427whp Map 4 17.5psi ~452whp |
Thanks for the info. We run 11psi on Aaron's car, so that's right in line. Good to know.
Next time you have traction issues on the dyno, get the shop to get some VHT. Or bring your own. We used to mess with extra straps, tightening them all till things are about to bend, and people in the trunk, but then we were told about VHT by some friends of mine. Held Aaron's 820rwhp with no slip, and even 330rwhp on very bald 215/40/17 all season tires (and terrible ones when brand new, let alone bald). I know it doesn't do you much good now, but if you're going back for a retune with your built motor, it might be something to consider. |

I'll see if he's cool with me using VHT next time. Thanks for the heads up! |
Pleong is still slow though.... lol
