What do you pay for insurance?

How much do you pay for insurance?
- Age / Marital Status
- Color
- Company
- History
- Full Coverage? / Deductible?

I'm interested because i'm wondering what people with similar scenarios are paying.

Jeeze! 433 a month? I thought my rate was high! What's your driving history like if you don't mind me asking? What company?

serith 11-23-2013 03:14 PM

Age, occupation, zip-code, credit score, driving history, previous claims filed, owning your car outright vs. financing, rent vs. owning your home, and so many more things go into calculating your risk to an insurance company. With that said, you also have to look at things like how much liability coverage, property damage, collision/comp deductibles, and other extras that you have in your policy. So when I read people say "full coverage", it doesn't really mean anything other than you have the state minimums for insurance.

I don't have an 86, but for my 09 tC I'm paying $287 every 6 months through Geico for $100/$300k liability, $500 deductibles, $100k property damage, 0 tickets and 0 claims, 28 years old.

$1900 annually + $500 for 2 year replacement insurance that i paid up front
ICBC
Whiteout
30 yrs old
married
$1000 collision deductible, $2 million liability and $500 theft/break in deductible (or was it $300? i can't remember)

i had one speeding ticket when i was 17 so that has not effected my insurance rate

i got hit on the side 2 years ago in an intersection running a stale yellow that i thought was a fresh one (i looked away for a couple seconds) and got blamed for the accident.. it wasn't worth fighting ICBC because the full cost in the end was $1700 out of my pocket; $1000 deductible and $700 spread out over 3 years in my insurance rates and i'm sure a lawyer would have cost me a lot more

next annual renewal should only cost me approx $1700 though.. horray!

Sounds a lot like me. I guess the price diff must be due to geographic location.

it's a combination of everything

if you live in a small town and have a perfect driving record you will have one of the best rates in your state/province and or country

my rates would be approx $500 cheaper annually if i was still living in my home town

Nm86 11-24-2013 07:36 PM

$53 per month.

$1000 deductible,
Married, no accidents, no tickets, great credit.
I want some of u to know u pay more for insurance than I pay for my car per month. That is ridiculous. I would sell the car if my insurance payment was over $100 per month. The car is not worth that. To the op assuming the same insurance for 5 years, you will end up paying 15600 in insurance.... Does that make sense?

Some of us don't live in a town small enough to get that kind of rate.

I couldn't get your rate even with perfect credit, perfect record & driving a 1990's station wagon.

Because... Phoenix.

My rate is just fine for the BRZ. The STI was $190/mo. That was too high for me. $168 is doable.

Just to give you a heads up....

I was paying $220/mo on my 05' Toyota Corolla, the car makes a difference but not that big of a difference..... According to Progressive, my policy will most likely cut in 1/2 by the end of the 6 months, because 2 of the tickets on my record won't be showing up anymore.

1086 11-24-2013 09:13 PM

How is that possible? Because you live in a town of 500 in Arkansas or something? All of your attributes work against you, hence, you're a 25 year old and a male - yet you pay $53/month - whats the secret?

+1 It's amazes me what people shell out on car payments & insurance for their rides. :eyebulge:

Nm86 11-24-2013 10:10 PM

No I live in the largest city in the state, little rock. Being married reduces my cost. Owning my own home reduces the cost, having life insurance reduces my cost,...I got life insurance because it actually saved me an additional $300 per year. I understand paying more for insurance, I've payed my own insurance since I turned 18, at those times I drove an old car, 93 civic and only had liability. Now i understand some places have a higher cost of living, but seriously there was a guy on here that said he payed like $400+ per month... There is no way in hell I would pay that much for anything, heck with that much money I would have bought an sti too.

I'm at 55 a month with Geico, great credit, no accidents, and a $500 deductible. 6 month premium is $349.73. I don't know how anyone can pay more than $120 a month for any car. If you're paying more than $200, I'd consider a different car or riding the bus since you can't drive properly.

you forget that certain factors contribute themselves to insurance rates

such as age which can play a big factor
driving experience
deductibles
type of car
sometimes life throws a few too many curve balls to a few unlucky people that get into several accidents that they got blamed for even if it wasn't completely their fault

and then there are those of us like myself that live in a place that have a government run insurance company called ICBC. They dictate our rates, bend us all over and there is nothing we can do about it because they are the only game in town

living in Metro Vancouver, which one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in Canada we have a lot of condensed traffic and as such more accidents happen and our general insurance rates go up a lot more than other cities 100km away

and because there are a lot of rich people in this city i also opted for the 2 million liability over the standard 1 million which again increases rates

before my accident 2 years ago i had the top rates for driving in this city with my 04 Civic which was just around $1500 annually

next time i renew my insurance i will be back down to normal with an increase of about $200 more for the type of vehicle i've chosen to purchase

one guy in our local ft86 club was paying $4500 per year (which is absolutely insane and uncalled for) but because he is 18, and driving a sports car in a large city.. our insurance company bends him over due to statistics

tell me again how you seem to know everything?

i really wish we had choices in our insurance companies

Know everything? Seriously. I never claimed that. I simply stated paying more per month for insurance than you pay for your car is not worth it in my opinion. Infact in my opinion paying more than 1/3 of your monthly car payment for insurance is too much. I also do not believe upping your insurance coverage is worth it. 1 million in coverage as you stated should be more than enough if you drive carefully. Now if your one of these idiots who claims they need to turn off traction control just to drive down the street, then you probably need Extra coverage and should paint your car pink with a sign that says royal dumb ass. That's another issue though. My opinion has always been insurance is a waste of money. I understand what you pay is based on a bunch of difference circumstances. I posted my age, deductible, location, marital status, and driving record a few posts up. I also stated that I got a bunch of discounts due to all those circumstances.

Move to New Hampshire in the northeast US. Auto insurance isn't required by law.

I pay about $76/month. 27 years old, Louisiana (some of the highest rates in the country). Not married, but girlfriend is on my insurance so I have multicar discount, as well as a Progressive Snapshot discount. I used to have a Camaro and a 240sx, so I put the snapshot device in the Camaro and just drove it on the weekends, using my 240sx for everything else. Got a 27% discount on my insurance. :party0030:
