Fuel Pump Nationwide Back Order?

I have the chirping fuel pump issue. I took it into the dealer and they confirmed it, but told me the fuel pump is on nationwide back order. Is anyone else getting this story or am I getting the runaround?

I half hope that its on nationwide back order because they finally realized the part is just defective and they are looking for a new manufacture.

It's probably on back order because it doesn't fix shit?

My pump was replaced a couple of weeks ago (a few days after the revised TSB came out - middle of Oct) with the newest pump design. The dealership was able to replace the pump the same day I went in for check-up. No chirps yet - knock on wood.

Try going/call into a different dealership for the new pump replacement; doesn't hurt right?

I had the new pump installed 2 weeks ago. No chirps but the pump was on back order then. My dealer put one aside for me when it came in due to me informing them of the new pump as soon as it was released.

Got my dealer to order one 2 days after the tsb was out for the oct 17th pump. Got it within a week, and that's in canada!!

Guess it came down to a first come first serve, maybe they didn't anticipate just how many cars had the problem, or how eagerly people wanted to fix it.

Almost 2k on the new pump, not a chirp :)

There is a new TSB and revised (again) part in the works, so that is probably the reason for the back order statement.

I'm currently not using my stock fuel pump since I upgraded. But I didn't notice any noise from it.

It's not the in-tank FP, it's the HPFP on top of the engine the OP is talking about.

Ohh, right on. Can't believe I was oblivious to that. Yeah, mine actually chirps but Scion wont replace it since my car is "modded"...

I took my car back in because the new pump was chirping again. Toyota is researching with the engineers on the next steps then I will bring my car back.

Just run corn. I haven't had the chirp noise in months and never had any TSB's performed on my car.

What manufacturer makes the high pressure fuel pump? I want to buy stock in them with as many as you guys are making Subaru/Scion purchase.

I sure hope they come up with an Aftermarket Pump that fits in the stock spot. And if they already do please post a link for me if you would please.
Thanks

Usually with contracts between manufacturers and suppliers, if the defect rate exceeds a certain threshold, the supplier has to pay. Based on sales, I'd say Subaru is the better investment. ;)

Plenty of Subaru pumps, took mine 2 days to come in. 300 miles, still good!

I been around couple of 86s with replaced fuel pump but still had noise. I'm going to wait longer

I currently have Toyota engineers researching what they want to do next. My chirps are loud as hell, and temperature doesn't matter. It was 36 this morning and they were loud with the new pump. My advice, wait until Toyota does yet another change.

fledonfoot 11-26-2013 04:57 PM

yes, part number SU003-05176 is the latest revision and is currently on back order. I ordered mine on 10/21 and it'll be here on December 3rd.

As of about 5 minutes ago, there are 347 on the way to dealers, and a further 198 on back order.
