Gran Turismo 6 FR-S GPS visualizer for track junkies

Sweet tool for those who track their car

Quote:

The GPS Visualizer feature in GT6 can literally take real live driving data from the ECU of the Scion FR-S and download that data into the game to recreate your runs in the game.

I knew bout this since last yr spring (since talked w Tada-san).

Glad that, they've finally announced this. More detail info should be coming.

Edit: & when that guy said it's only for "FR-S", he's correct. BRZ don't have that system active. Subaru have fully disable it

@1:21

It's only compatible with the Scion FR-S... so out of the hundreds of amazing cars out there in the world, the only one that will be compatible with that GT6 feature happens to be the car I decided to purchase after several years of shopping around for the car I wanted? FUCKING SWEET.

Good thing I bought a Logitech G27 steering wheel a few weeks ago to play GT5 while waiting on GT6 to come out. Can. Not. Wait.:party0030::happyanim::bellyroll::drool:

Wise 11-21-2013 04:10 AM

Will it be compatible with the Toyota 86? Or just the Scion?

Might have to finally buy a new PS3 for GT6. My 2007 model died a few months ago.

Is there a way to re-enable it? :iono:

Guff 11-21-2013 07:18 AM

Awesome! I'm glad they followed through with this! This is one of those things that all of us OG's totally got psyched up about when we got the hints that this was happening...

DarkSunrise 11-21-2013 08:57 AM

Wow that is pretty sweet.

86-tundra 11-21-2013 09:17 AM

I still think this will be my favorite feature, and main reason to buy the game.

This [Course Maker] feature, available at a later stage through an update, will allow you to create your own custom tracks that can be driven in the game. Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content.

AznBRZer 11-21-2013 09:57 AM

I'm going to map my route to work and see how fast I can get there with no traffic and WOT the whole way. :D

Exactly. What if someone were lucky enough to get access to COTA before
an update (if that even happens). Awesome feature.

wrxgoose 11-21-2013 10:40 AM

this looks awesome. so what's next? maybe the ability to upload the specs for our personal cars, and drive them in game?

Yes, Toyota 86, GT86 & Scion FR-S is compatible. As long as you get that GPS CAN-system box hooked up to it.

So far I know, no... but who knows. They might change their heart in newer model.

iirc they were working on that program.

Tada-san's idea was track your 86 on the weekend & upload that info into GT. Weekday, you can race your ghost in the GT.

Another thing they wanna try to do is to see upgrade of your car. So you can adjust your suspension, power or other etc before hand & see rough idea what kind of performance difference it make on your car, before you buy those part.

When I heard these stuff from Tada-san, I wanted to hug him and thank him. Gotta love Tada-san. He's awesome!

I've never been jealous of FRS owners until now. Sigh!

SnapOv3st3r 11-21-2013 04:35 PM

This feature I'm sure will expand (I hope anyway) to other cars, cause I can see endless possibilities for us track junkies.

I Love me some GT.

gatorbushmen 11-21-2013 04:53 PM

that is awesome

Lonewolf 11-21-2013 08:46 PM

Sweet, so when your car takes a dump on the track because of its crap tune/di seals/inadequate cooling they will have another way to know about it...:)

Sorry, I'm just bitter, and want Subaru to get their ish together...

pixel67 11-21-2013 10:18 PM

Wow, what an awesome feature! Yet another reason to drive the hell out of this car.

So what is that CAN GPS unit? At the beginning of the OP's video (on the bottom in small writing) it says they're not sure if it will be brought to the US or not.

Just seems like Subie treats the BRZ like the bastard child of their lineup. I was steered away from it at four different dealers I went to when shopping for one. Where is the cool testing in Japan like the TRD videos that have been posted on here? Where is the Subie version of TRD for performance products? Its like this car to Subaru is a "eh well make something that isn't a four door, waggon or suv because we are missing out on that market segment"

You're correct... IF you're track crazy-mania. Almost every weekend

But can Aim Solo DL can race your ghost? Can see how you drove in full 3D? Can adjust the setting (suspension setting) to see how the car "might" react?

There are millions of better system than this, but this system is to bring younger ppl into automotive world & have a fun at the track AND at home.

Here in CA many dealers act like the car is too good to sell at less than 30K...hence the lagging markups after being out for so long...so I guess you might be experiencing a regional thing :iono:

But I get what you're saying, where are all the STi parts and accessories? They should be offering quite a bit more by now!

I learned a long time ago, from personal experience, that it's a really bad idea to go into business with a partner if the arrangement isn't 50/50. Subaru went into business with Toyota in a deal that wasn't 50/50, with an almost identical competing product. Subaru doesn't have the necessary power/authority to make any big decisions. This is also why people keep saying that the BRZ feels like the blacksheep of the Subaru family. Subaru cannot do what they want to do with it. If the project was majority owned by Subaru, we'd already have a turbocharged model.

Fresh86 11-22-2013 01:43 AM

damn thats cool!

So what's the point of this? Why would I want to play a game when I can drive my car in real life.

Must be nice to be able to take your car to the track 7 days a week.

I'm sorry but no video game is going to give me the feeling of actually driving my car on a track.

I don't recall anyone ever saying that a video game simulation was better than actually being on a track. So I'm not sure what point you are trying to prove here? You said:

Quote:

And the point of this is entertainment. It's a video game. The fact that you can upload your track data and race against your ghost means that, for the times when you cannot be at the track, you can still work on improving your driving technique. Or, you know, for entertainment?

It takes 2 seconds to turn on a PS3. Running a couple of laps on a video game is something that can be done in someones spare time while in the comfort of their own home. An actual track day is a time consuming process, not to mention the financial costs associated every time you go. This is an apples to oranges comparison.

So you decided to come in here and ask what the point of this is. I replied with "must be nice to be able to take your car to the track 7 days a week" and your response is that a video game cannot compare to being at a real track? lol... No one was disputing whether racing in real life on an actual race track was or was not a more enjoyable experience... and I'm done feeding a troll.

Exorcized 11-22-2013 04:26 PM

I'm gonna put a ps4 in my FR-S so I can drive my FR-S while driving my FR-S.

So here is the point of this (really, just a single point as they are really talking about more than one feature here). I can take my car on a single run on the tail of the dragon, use the GPS coordinates to actually build the virtual "track", and then virtually race on it in GT6 going as fast as i want and not get the first ticket or care if i wreck my car. As a side benefit, it takes me 5 minutes to get everything powered up and virtually driving where taking a trip to the dragon is an all day affair. Both are fun in their own right...

This is really cool stuff! Building virtual runs off of real world data it cutting edge!
:respekt:

MmmHamSandwich 11-23-2013 06:56 PM

This amazing new feature is being shown to you on the Scion FR-S, a car model exclusive to North America!

Watch as we demonstrate this feature on Willow Springs, a track in North America!

All this greatness is not yet confirmed for release in North America
!

Errr okay?

Dezoris 11-23-2013 07:39 PM

Its too bad GT is weak in terms of physics and does not support higher end wheel setups.

kind of a cool gimmick though.
