Better interior on JDM BRZ Limited?

1 Attachment(s)
Sorry if a similar thread has been posted already. I was poking around on subaru.jp and happened to see this picture of the JDM interior (preusmably on the Limited):

http://www.subaru.jp/brz/brz/img/ph10.jpg

Is this from a pre-production model? It seems like there is additional red stitching in the center console, and additional leather/stitching in the doors. This looks really sweet, but in recent pics of the US interior there is less red stitching and leather. It's obvious they did some editing of the photo to make the Leather/Alacantra look better than it does in person, and to make the interior look darker overall.

So, does the fully-equipped JDM BRZ have a better interior, or is this just an old pic? I want my Limited to look exactly like the pic above :(. I have attached a pic of the USDM interior below.

1) The lighting is very VERY different in each shot.
2) The interior lighting is ON in the Japanese marketing shot.
3) The Japanese marketing shot has had it's contrast boosted.

They look the same to me...

One thing the Euro and JP spec BRZ (and 86) have that you can see in the photo above are the additional stitched padding surround around the speakers and sides of the HVAC unit.

The US-spec cars use plain hard plastic.

aethelwulf 04-20-2012 01:56 PM

other than the stereo, it looks the same, but with less light in the JDM one.

This interior looks exactly* the same as in the one I test drove at the beginning of the month. Same color stitching in the same places and everything.

*meaning pretty much

I see what you mean by the addition red stitching around the center console, and on the doors. Not sure what to think of it, but pre-production, or just another thing JDM gets and we don't I'm not going to miss it at all ill be to busy enjoying the car once it shows up.

The only stitching that seems to be missing is on the sides of the center console and around the door speakers. Otherwise, the interiors look exactly the same. I'd be interested to see if production models of the JDM BRZ have that stitching still.

pretty sure the JDM gets the nicer interior.

in addition, JDM models get power side mirrors. it's the second knob next to the side mirror adjustment button.

I know it's minor, but I was talking about the stitching on the center console and around the speakers. The additional stitching really helps draw everything together. Either way, the interior is sexy as hell (US or JDM), especially at night.

It's not a big deal. I wouldn't mind having it, but the stitching that the JDM model has that we don't get is mostly on stuff that you won't really be in constant contact with anyway, so it's not something of concern if there is plastic instead of leather and red stitching, particularly around the sides of the HVAC unit (since you touch the knobs anyway, not the sides) and the doors (which you only touch to get in and out of the car).

I'm more curious about how big of a difference there is between the Premium and Limited models.

Passenger side door of JDM car doesn't have lock button, but USDM one has it. There is a small button on the driver side door of JDM car that is missing in USDM car.

Ah, the magic of marketing post processing photography.

Yep. It's all good though, it's nice but it's not really something needed on this car and likely not worth the price increase if it were on it. I fold my mirrors EVERY day, it's not a big deal.

My boss, on the other hand, would disagree.

Not really in this case.

The JDM cars do have a padded area (instead of hard plastic) around the speakers and "knee boards" (sides of the center vertical console) where the US cars do not. The US cars just have plain old plastic there.

86design 04-20-2012 04:16 PM

I just see the same thing...its just the lighting on each of the photos...

The JDM one has the faux leather with red stitching on both the speaker surround and the side of the center stack. USDM just has hard plastic there. Here's a better picture of the USDM interior

Lol all the people that say the interiors are the same must have never been very good at finding Waldo...clearly the USDM car is missing the extra stitching in the places the OP mentioned. But for how cheap we are getting the car compared with the rest of the world, I expected a little bit of cutting corners in areas like this.

RRnold 04-20-2012 05:43 PM

The red stitching on the door should been the giveaway. The answer is yes and has been for a while. I'm sure if you had both leather and alcantara for you to touch, you'll feel the difference.

As far as I remember in my Honda days, the Japanese quality was always better than US versions.

They are the same...a few missing stiching here and there doesnt magically make the interior something completely different....

Ryephile 04-20-2012 09:02 PM

USDM interior deletes:

*Power folding mirror button
*padded & stitched center console and door speaker panels
*frameless rear-view mirror [maybe]

That's it.

It's not just stitching.

Turbowned 04-21-2012 09:50 AM

Something else we can add to the list of "things to import from Japan"

I want those "leather" stitched panels! It really ties the interior together and makes it look more upscale. Though it would probably be less expensive to just pay an automotive upholsterer to add that, rather than tracking down those parts. I assume the speaker surrounds are part of a one-piece door panel, and the center console would also be a big piece to ship.

Did someone say Waldo? :D

Those stitches can be added later on with either JDM panels or going to an automotive upholsterer, which, I'll be doing when I feel like it.
