Take it or be content on what you have

quick summary of my self I'm a 35yrs old working as a clinical lab scientist supervisor making ok amount of money, wife is making a little higher than me.

Just got accepted on a really nice job making my pay double tax free, housing, car and expenses will be included, problem is it will be out of the country, living in SD cali was the best move and was my wish ever since I graduated from college. Wife likes the idea since she won't be working and just be a stay at home mom, if you are on my shoe will you take the job? or just be content on what I have right now?

only thing I can think of is that I can buy any car I want modify to my hearts content and not really care about smog or cops trying to pull you over because you have a modified car lol...

mfbmike 11-20-2013 05:07 AM

Where would you be living?

I'd take it. Double pay + all that shit covered? Almost a no brainer, unless you're heading to some parts of the world where your life is in danger, etc.

4agze 11-20-2013 05:40 AM

Qatar, they say its safe I asked my old coworker who did the same move few years ago, I guess only thing I hate from what he told me is boredom and no friends.

whaap 11-20-2013 06:35 AM

Life is an adventure. Take the move. My wife and I were born in the suburbs of Detroit and in 1975 fulfilled our wish and moved to San Diego. It was a cool experience but when we retired in 1990 we took off, traveled for a few years and settled here in Tucson. Where ever you go, there you will be and the most important thing is that you be happy, it's not so much where you live.

arashishozen 11-20-2013 07:28 AM

Do what you gotta do. But if i had s chance for something new.. well if my woman was with me id do it. It's only as boring as you make it. Friends.. well visit during holidays ;)

I've been doing that for the past 18years. This is going to sound cheesy but ride the wave homie! I've seen more than my fair share of cool shit. Honestly it makes you really love and appreciate America more. You know absence makes the heart grow fonder. :-)

Qatar is actually really nice...just the heat can be a bit much at times. It's a growing place much like Dubai and Abu Dhabi once was (is?). I think you'll enjoy it. Good luck!

I Have many customer's in Quatar doing crazy stuff to their cars. Trust me there is no lack of the scene there so I think you'll have fun. I spent the last 7 years of my life living abroad and had the time of my life.

:bellyroll:SOunds like you're in the Navy

You should try it out, unless you have to sign a contract saying that you have to work amount of x years before you could leave the job. But with all of those benefits, it sounds like you will be in good hands.

If the job is something you really enjoy then three years should fly by haha. I am a science major myself, I wonder if I will ever get the same opportunity as you.

Qatar is awesome! Was there in the Air Force and thought it was a sweet deal!

Go see the world man... USA will be here when you're done.

Nevermore 11-20-2013 09:42 PM

I think I'd do it for the money and everything being covered, as long as they don't stick you with a crappy place to live. As far as the no friend's thing, if you're making double, and your wife can get another job there making decent money, you should have plenty of money, so you could solve the no friends issue by planning trips back home fairly often.

Is this true if I ship a old school muscle car like a 64 mustang or a camaro (fair shape) I can trade it for a 2010 or newer porsche cayman or sell it for $50,000US? Qatari people love old school US muscle cars and its rare in Qatar.

ichitaka05 11-20-2013 11:09 PM

Here's my advice.

Take that job, buy a car & mod it like crazy & send it to me as a gift, cuz you love me lmao

On serious note, it's worth going. I know sometimes, money isn't a thing, but going different part of the world & getting an experience is worth it.

That I'm not sure... I was mainly on an installation and didn't get off base much. While there the rumors had started about it becoming an "accompanied" location where family could join you... As for the cars I'd suggest checking out their import laws (and SOFA agreement if it applies to you) to see if that is a possibility. In the UK I know a few service members made out very well with newer mustangs, vetts and challengers.

4agze 11-23-2013 02:35 AM

friends are saying one good part about me going to a different country is I will have a toyota GT86 badge on my car instead of scion, I don't know why my friends are so against scion and me getting one back then, but they all have & had toyota? I keep telling them its same car I don't care... I'm still getting a FRS or GT86 unless something comes out better.

Fluxx 11-23-2013 03:46 AM

The market for old muscle cars there will be better than it is in the US, but unless you go with a very desirable model i.e. Boss 302, AAR Barracuda, Camaro Z/28 (first gen) you won't be getting new Porsche money for it. A clean Mustang coupe from the 60's could probably bring you between $20k-$30k though. Most of the people there that have crazy money to spend on American classics have enough money to come to the US and get them at auctions. I have a buddy teaching in Kuwait, which is a bit more conservative than Qatar, and he seems to be enjoying it. He goes to Europe just about any time he has a long weekend.
