Radio Upgrade

What does upgrading to the BeSpoke radio on your scion build add? Does the standard head unit not have bluetooth and such? I read on the scion website what the BeSpoke has but couldn't find what the standard head unit has. Does the BeSpoke have a better sounding audio i.e. better speakers or is all you're getting is a different head unit with a screen for $845.00? And I am talking about the 2013 head unit, not the new one with aha.

Speaking of the new aha... I know with the new base 2014 head unit it come with a screen, what does $1198.00 get you for the upgrade?

I guess in the end I am asking, is it worth upgrading the head unit thru scion?

I'm in Canada so we don't get the exact same options, but from what I remember, the upgraded BeSpoke you guys got for the 2013 was just a touch screen, with a few little apps. The stock ghetto unit does have bluetooth. The only thing the BeSpoke added was a touchscreen and apps that really only worked with an iPhone. Like you could connect your iPhone to the BeSpoke head unit and have it display the maps app from your phone onto the head unit screen. Basically a "fake" navigation system. But it didn't work all too well and people hated its useless apps/features.
The new 2014 one is basically the same, but without the useless BeSpoke apps. Also, the 2014 head unit itself is a lot cheaper than that. Less than $300, I believe, but I think for $1198, you get the 2014 head unit with true GPS navigation like the BRZ.

The 13 bespoke comes with premium audio with subwoofer. not sure about stock. I have bespoke. Want to change it to the 14 aha. It actually looks like it works

The standard unit in my '13 connects to my Samsung S3 quite well, uses the Navigation app to speak to me through the sound system when needed, and plays Pandora at the same time.

I can take phone calls easily, though placing a call using voice recognition is a bit "iffy" at times, and slow to respond.

Is a screen worth 1200 bucks?

The be spoke does the same. I have the S3 as well. . The screen is touch screen and projects what is playing upon it woke blue tooth is active. The point though is it should has been able to protect a navi map when be spoke app was launched. Though the app is only on I phone 4s and the ,4 the app doesn't work. And the touch screen works well when wanting to quick dail someone through the use of a button. ( I have a deep mumbling kind of voice so it doesn't pick my talking up well. However the 13 model was only 845$.

I heard the bespoke with aha works with a Android phone as well and works better. I personally don't care for the whole mask on phone on windshield scene. Much rather have it on the screen.

the upgraded 2014 bespoke gets u GPS and aha (aha is crap) on top of all the 2014 base features

the 2013 bespoke adds touch screen (obviously) crappy bespoke app and more pre outs for custom audio on the back of it (all i can think of off the top of my head)

if u are looking at the 2013 bespoke don't pay dealer costs. a bunch of us swapped em out for different reasons and needs and sell them way cheap. i have mine for sale right now for under $250 if ur really interested

its really only music. think of it as a shitty pandora. but the GPS one it alone makes it worth it. it's very on point. tho i have noticed my bluetooth seems to take a bit longer to connect. not sure why. I've had all 3 radios and the other 2 were a bit quicker, but overall i like this the best for my needs

Sounds like to me that Aftermarket is the way to go in this case. The Pioneer that came with my 13 has a touch screen also and the audio system comes with 8 speakers including Sub woofers, so the only extra bells and whistles your getting with the upgrade is GPS and Pandora I guess. Not at all worth it.
Aftermarket I say if your not satisfied with the Pioneer unit

I have the 2013 Bespoke radio and u said the new on get rid of all the stupid apps... Is there like an upgrade I can download for it to get rid of the apps or am I just gonna have to live through it cause it really pisses me off. Especially when I would be playing music through Bluetooth and when I connect my phone to charge it a bit it's said open app to play music and since my music is through spotify it won't read my music. And IK I can just switch back to Bluetooth while plugged in, it's just annoying to do it every time.

Unfortunately, BeSpoke screwed anyone with the 2013 head unit by not providing any updates. The 2014 head unit isn't a software upgraded 2013 BeSpoke unit. It's a completely different unit. Doesn't even look the same.

Nicolas0esp1 12-17-2013 12:25 PM

Well that suxs and it means that they won't be thinking of fixing it. Thx anyways

FRSGeek 12-17-2013 06:25 PM

I have a 2013 FRS. There has been the bespoke upgrade monies sitting there as when I learned the GPS for the NAV was via the phone I went WOAH that is shit.. hold off on installing it.

Now the 2014 is here, but the HU basic is added to the price of the car and if you want aha+nav, that is 1100 or so additional. So for me to get away from the POS basic Head unit in the 2013 I have to shell out $2k.. NO WAY, now without some happy time with a gal from the dealership will I pay that kind of monies.

So now I need advice as to the latest and greatest 2-din head units that are pretty much drop in compatible w/o having to re-wire the entire car.

Thanks in advance.
