AVIC dangerous driving warning

So I don't notice it too much, but sometimes, when I am aggressively accelerating, the stereo rings a chime and a message pops up telling me to drive safely.

I can't find any info about this in the manual.

has anyone else experienced this? usually, it pops up after a shift from 1-2 at redline after near drop clutch start and full throttle run through 1st.....

lately, I've noticed that the warning message has stopped showing up, but the chime still rings...

Hmmm...how do I delete thread? Just after I posted, I found the reference in the manual....

"Sudden Start Alert"
"If the speed of the vehicle exceeds 25.5 mpd (41 km.h) within 5 seconds from the time it is started, a messages appears and a warning sound beeps."

When are you ever in a situation that you need to accelerate to +40 km/h within 5 seconds of starting your car??

Is this part of the goofy "eco" settings in the Nav system?

Why would your car be turned off at a metered on ramp?

SirBrass 11-23-2013 10:13 PM

Thought it was within 5 seconds from being fully stopped. That'd b consistent with the OP's observations.

yes....the wording of the manual sounds ridiculous, but it does mean from a stop. I guess that technically could include starting the engine to go, but that would be a bit ridiculous...

Yup, and thus, you'd want to accelerate very quickly at a metered on ramp b/c it stops you at the end of the on ramp, and you lose all the velocity built up getting on it, and thus have very little road in which to get up to merging speed on the freeway.

Which is why if no one is in front of me, I ignore the light when the on ramp is metered. Much safer that way.

Still, it's a situation that is frequent & normal & would bring out the idiot tone from the BRZ ;)
