Searching for a Quiet Catback Exhaust

I need recommendations for a "Quiet" Cat Back to accompany the other exhaust components.

Current setup is a
FA20club EL Catted Header
Perrin Overpipe
Nameless Catted Helmholtz Resonated Front Pipe
Perrin Resonated Cat Back Exhaust

I went to a vball banquet last night in daughters car, sat in the back seat, drivers side rear, quiet at idle, during acceleration, part throttle, I couldn't hear myself talk! I've never sat back there before, but know why other girls shove their earbuds in when riding with her in the back seat. Obnoxious!
Later in the evening I ride in the front passenger seat, not too loud at all.
I've sound proofed the heck out of this car, and the stereo rocks, but that back seat even for a 20 minute drive was obnoxious.

I still have the complete stock cat back exhaust in storage.
Am I reaching for something unobtainable? Any recommendations?
I will be buying something to fix this asap, any advice from vendors is appreciated as well, Thanks

i would recommend the works ab-m

it's one of the most quiet exhaust system and has zero drone

midnight23 11-15-2013 05:40 AM

invidia q300 is super quiet, almost stock like until you get past 3-4krpm

roddy 11-15-2013 07:05 AM

Magnaflow. Well made, quiet, and drone free. I had one for a year, and liked it. It was replaced by a TRD cat-back...big mistake.

ramiram1984 11-15-2013 08:19 AM

^^trd is not that loud. Couple of guys here have that.
You can always get rid of op/fp and just leave your catback on

tonystewart 11-15-2013 09:40 AM

Does anyone have a quiet catback that has EL Headers ?

TRD is loud, I'm looking to keep the power combination ahead of the catback.

I got the Tsudo cb and fp/dp installed on Wednesday. It is quiet but deep. I think it sounds better than both the Evo3 and Nameless axle back. I'm not sure how it would sound with what you already have though.

It really isn't. Even gave my friend a catless front pipe bc he wanted it to beef up the sound.
Trd has a nice sound. Just isn't loud as you and others may say/think.

I have the hks el header along with Perrin OP, motiv catless FP, and resonated Perrin catback. I think the sound is just right. Especially after experimenting with catted front pipe, on my UEL AND EL as well and unresonated catback.

Just right, got it, louder than my daughters current setup, absolutely.
I'm looking for less db
Thanks

Oh, it is loud, neighbor has one, everything but the header.

I just ordered a Q300 and the catted Invidia front pipe. Downgrading from my 3" exhaust because the JDL UEL brings out the vibrations inside and some drone. My mirrors all shake too. Might shelve the exhaust for turbo later.

Definitely want to tame down the catless JDL because I love the header.

OICU812 11-15-2013 11:03 AM

Out if every exhaust I've heard on these cars in person the q300 was quietest for sure.

Yeah, I think as more headers arrive to the market, especially the catless ones, people (like me) are quickly figuring out how loud these thin walled headers really make the rest of the system. The Q300 with the titanium tips looks pretty good on the ultramarine color so I'm looking forward to it.

I don't mind a loud exhaust, but when it's so loud on the interior and makes your head almost shake and give you a headache, it's time to swap. First time this has ever happened to me. The Q300 will be plenty loud with an overpipe, catted invidia front pipe, and the Q300 catback.

hunter3232792 11-15-2013 11:07 AM

q300 i have it trust me very quiet put once you go catless front pipe its pretty great sound

wparsons 11-15-2013 11:09 AM

My Perrin 2.5" resonated is pretty quiet. With the windows down it's a bit boomy around 2000rpm, but at 3000rpm+ it's not loud at all, and with the windows up it's very quiet.

I'm on the stock header, but 2.5" catted front pipe.

utekineir 11-15-2013 11:15 AM

Did you plug/remove the noise pipe?

The car was terrible inside the cabin after i added a catback (lol magna flow) without plugging the noise pipe under the floor mat.

SliverBrz 11-15-2013 11:17 AM

Q300

Invidia really makes it channel the sound to the back of the car.

You won't hear it inside the cabin really, and there is no drone.

q300 is quiet. with headers its the perfect volume

It is also heavier than the stock exhaust, which makes it a non-starter, IMO. Still waiting to see how the Tomei 60S sounds with the silencer in. I think it'll still be too loud.

Always a trade off but ya you're right worth mentioning for those with weight concerns I suppose, good point. Me I wouldn't worry about it though cause enjoying your car while driving in every way is worth more to me then having annoyances that take from the experience.

Is it still mild with an upgrade catted front pipe?

I've always had my eyes on the Perrin resonated but now I'm torn between that and a Q300, I kinda like the uniqueness of the titanium burned tips but not sure how it'll look on a black car.

You also need to factor in the pipe size. The Perrin is 2.5", the Invidia is 60mm which equates to 2.36". Won't see much of a difference either way. I went with the Titanium tips because I have an Ultramarine and I take my car to local shows. Q300 is a bit heavier though so if weight is a big factor for you, the Perrin may sway your decision.

Ehh, I don't think i'll care much about the weight as long as it's not dramatically slowing me down. I'm not too concern about shaving off a few pounds or anything. I do like the Q300 a bit more because of how it looks also, titanium tips are kinda nice but I'm not completely sold on them. The other one is nice and shiny so either way it'll look very nice. Perrin is more of a brushed metal look. Ahh i'll make my decision one day, until then i'll drool and wait until something that will really push me to purchase it.

I left my stock catback on for this exact reason. Pretty much got the same setup as you + a tune. Honestly, you're not losing that much HP/torque going back to the stock cat-back. Unless you're racing & trying to squeeze out every last bit of power in the higher RPM's, I doubt you'll notice any difference in daily driving.

Thank you Reeves, nothing beats experienced advice!

What some other people are saying Invidia Q300

tonystewart 11-16-2013 06:49 PM

Factory Catback reinstalled, quick test drive was positive, raining and traffic kept things from a proper test, waiting for daughter to return with report, will be data logging tomorrow (weather permitting).
The engine is now louder than the exhaust. I think it's the first time we've heard the FA20club EL header. LOL
Will keep all informed with results

FR-S Matt 11-16-2013 08:11 PM

My Q300 and catted front pipe show up early next week, but I'm waiting on JDL to make me an overpipe. This system is what the JDL UEL needs... lol. I love the header, but damn, it is LOUD.

tonystewart 11-16-2013 08:57 PM

After I installed the FA20club EL Header and Toni updated the tune for the header, I had to change my front pipe from a Perrin Catted Front Pipe to a Nameless Catted Front Pipe with Helmholtz resonator. The exhaust pulse from the header created such a racket under the car, rasp and drone, loud.
The car is a beast after that header install.

tonystewart 11-18-2013 04:21 PM

Data logging completed.
Toni@FA20Club updated the tune this morning, it runs great!
Daughter is happy!
The car needs exhaust tips badly, guess I shouldn't have sold them last month, lol.

What is a good cleaner/polisher for a Perrin Resonated Cat Back Exhaust?

Perrin's own resonated cat back exhaust cleaner and steel wool.
It works wonders :D

:D

@tonystewart so both your daughter and you drive a 86?

Btw, my Nameless cat back with 5" mufflers was quiet untill I put the rest of the exhaust on. P&L catted headers, Perrin OP, Perrin catted FP. I think it's too loud but that's just me.

No, just my younger daughter, I'm only the mechanic, test driver, victim in the back seat
