cars of my life, post yours

curious to see which cars people had up until now

here's my story, probably not as many cars in my life as compared to others
(i'll try to update with real photos...have to find and scan those)
when i was just born my dad bought a new white zastava 101 mediteran.....drove it for 12 years and then sold to his friend, who's still driving it, before moving to canada
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...stava1100p.jpg

in canada he decided to go french, and bought a few years old red renault alliance (i can't recall the year....'86 or so)
http://www.vehicules-hors-serie.fr/S...lliance_4p.jpg

then back to homeland, and he ended up with a beige lada samara, year '90 i believe
http://www.motorstown.com/images/lad...ra-1300-04.jpg

next car happened in '96, he got a renault 5
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2768/...1fac2647eb.jpg

then we come back to canada, and i'm moving out........yay!!!

my first car i ever drove was my boyfriend's (now husband) '94 blue eagle talon.......beautiful car....hold lots of special memories.....something about hatchback makes it so versatile :o:cheesygri
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...lon_bandit.jpg
so sad when we sold it....

he decided to buy a car for himself and not listen to me, and got the worst car ever heh
a charcoal 2005 v6 altima.......and of course i ended up driving that pos every day to work for 70km since he started to bike to work.......after a year i was fed up with that awful car, and decided to trade it in
no photo

for my very first car, that i chose myself, and paid for myself..........my pride, and joy, my first love i hoped to drive forever
my baby 2006 golf tdi......i loved my car, babied my car, only to have it totaled 11 months ago.....still miss my little black car
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ingthecar1.jpg

while i still had the golf, husband decided he wanted a bigger car after kids came, so we bought a 2009 vw passat station wagon.......it's a people mover, stuff mover...does the job....still have it, it's officially his car, and i take it out on a rare occasion
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n..._2020659_n.jpg

so this year in february after i finally got money from the insurance, i had to replace my little golf, and i made a big mistake of getting a 2013 golf tdi, and hating it more than i hated the altima.......it became a rebound car
here it is beside my new baby on the trade-in day in july..........
and here's hoping for a LONG LOVING relationship with my frs.......so far so good :D

It looks very...girly! lol I'm sure that was the intent, so that's all that matters :)

Curious as to why you hated the '13 TDI so much?

yes, girly was the intent :)

the 2013 golf was more of a disappointment of how it was nothing like the old 2006, but i wasn't a fan of the ride anyway
i found it sort of bouncy, it didn't feel solid, and it sort of wandered on the road instead of tracking straight
i also didn't like the dsg....when i tested it didn't feel as bad, but maybe i got some weird one because it had a mind of it's own, especially when you want to go, and it takes 30 seconds before it suddenly jerks you forward

don't ask why i bought it when i didn't care for it.....i'd like to know the answer too :sigh:

Your pink-accented white wheels look great, perfect for a young woman and her wonderful sportscar. I'm guessing they also may offer some protection, acting as a spouse-repellent so your husband doesn't take your new car out and risk wrapping it around a pole in the snow. With those wheels he doesn't dare drive it. LOL! :D

[Note: The above is said in kindly, good humor, not nastiness. ;) Enjoy your new car!)

I like them too. I have a white Evo X and would like to do a white on hot pink theme.

Can't get to my pictures right now, and I don't have pictures of all of them.
1. 1980 Audi 4000, I was given a choice between it and a 1983 Mercury Lynx (Escort twin.) Only the rear passenger side door would open from the outside.
2. 1978 Mercury Cougar XR-7. It was a living room on wheels, I loved it. It got handed down when I joined the Marines, my dad still has it.
3. 1995 Trans Am. It was my first performance car that I bought the day after my 20th birthday and the first car I financed. Sold it to an Army buddy that killed it a month later.
4. 1971 Mercury Cougar XR-7. Bought it as a project car for $500 and haven't touched it since towing it to my dads.
5. 1974 Ford F-250 High Boy. Had a burnt valve and got 3-4mpg, sold it to my brother in law when I moved to Nevada and he is doing a frame off restoration on it.
6. 1970 Mustang Sportsroof. In the process of rebuilding it. It's getting a fuel injected 331 stroker motor that I hope will be good for 400-450hp.
7. 1993 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. Been my winter beater since 06 but I have it for sale since I got something to replace it recently.
8. 1979 Ford F-150. I love old dent side Fords and when I came across a 4x4 with a 4 speed I couldn't pass it up. Ended up selling it to a buddy when I got my Yota.
9. 1994 Mustang GT. Bought it from my brother when he found out he had a baby on the way. Recently gave it back to him in return for him putting my Mustang (70) back together. (It's at my dads, he might be overly patient with me storing cars at his place.)
10. 1984 Toyota Pickup. Ugly as a mud fence but runs strong, it's been my wheeling rig for the last few years, probably going to sell it as well.
11. 2013 Scion FR-S. My first brand new car, have a feeling that it and my 70 Mustang are going to be owned lifelong.
12. 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser. Bought it last weekend from a coworker moving back east and didn't want to ship it back. I plan on it being a winter rig/wheeling rig.

These days I have the Explorer (hopefully not for too much longer), 70 Mustang, 84 Toyota (might sell), 71 Cougar (most days I forget I have it), the FR-S, and the Land Cruiser.

Thoughts on the Fiat 124?

Taro 11-17-2013 06:27 PM

I'm considerably younger than most of you, so my list is going to be way shorter and less exciting.

1988 Toyota Corona

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...orona_1985.JPG

My parents owned this car when I was born. They only kept it until I was about 2, but I guess I was (probably?) carseatted around in this for a while. I of course, have no recollection of it. At all. They could be lying to me about it for all I know.

1995 Ford Escort Sedan

http://imganuncios.mitula.net/1996_f...9302706454.jpg

It would seem that my parents swapped their boring sedan for...another, less reliable boring sedan. I DO remember this, so I can verify it actually existed. I also remember the paint looking a lot more vibrant than most of the pictures of the internet can show you. So this was an early childhood car for me. I was not impressed with it, with the exception of the spoiler. This is also the car that my parents bring up everytime they talk about how much it sucks to drive domestics.

1998 Honda CR-V

http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/meris...y/c432055a.jpg

Probably because they hated the Ford so much, their next car was the Honda CR-V. For a time, the Ford and the Honda were both in the driveway. The CR-V was cool because I remember it had a neat golfball pattern on the steering wheel, and it had a folding table in the middle. That's right, a folding table. It was neat, and I loved that it had a wheel on the back.

2001 Nissan Pathfinder

http://imganuncios.mitula.net/2001_n...7294211283.jpg

The family obsession with both Japanese and SUVs had gone off the rails at this point, and my parents decided to swap the Ford for this thing. Although it was a pretty nice car inside, it always felt massive to me. I guess it probably still would seem pretty big to me, except that the modern day Pathfinders are small tanks. This is also the car I first drove in my life, at...15 or 16. :D

2005 Nissan Sentra

http://image.importtuner.com/f/power...umper_view.jpg

I guess because they loved the Pathfinder so much, they swapped the CR-V for a Sentra. The only justification I ever heard for a bright-yellow Sentra was that my dad never got to buy the MK.4 Supra he always wanted, so he bought the Sentra is a "sportier" colour. Yeah, I don't know. This one was sold to a relative after about two years. I can't say I remember anything notable ever happening to it.

2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

http://media.wheels.ca/vehicles/1309...75840-1-sm.jpg

Look, it's not Japanese! They decided to swap out the Pathfinder and Sentra for a VW. This was the first car I actually drove on a semi-normal basis, and at this point I'd finally obtained a full licence (Ontario's licencing takes forever, for you 'Murican and otherwise- Canadian readers out there), so I got to drive this a fair bit. It's a really nice car, and it was 'charged, although it always got crazy hot under the hood. Easily enough to fry dinner on the hood. It was also my first taste of European motoring. I was impressed.

2013 Scion FR-S

http://www.tastyautos.com/wp-content...er-argento.jpg

Yeah, I know, most of you only read the rest to get to this point. The time came for me to get my own car. Fresh out of university, and no serious commitments meant I could get something impractical. I think I'd developed a strong dislike for domestic brands after all those years of conditioning. My father's love for Toyota's sports cars made me REALLY want a Celica, MR-2, or a Supra of my own. In 2013, as I'm sure you all know, those aren't even options anymore. A friend, who is WAY more of an auto enthusiast then I'll ever be, showed me the FT86 prototype, which I loved. When the final version came out, how could I not buy it?

MeFryRice 11-17-2013 09:28 PM

I've had 19 cars in the last 11 yrs that I've been driving. My problem is, I'll be window shopping on the forums to see what's on the market, see something that sparks my interest and it all goes down hill from there. lol.

I don't have pics of all them on my computer so I'll list the cars and post what I do have.

1992 Integra GS-R with a B20. Totaled the car when swerving to miss a deer on Father's day of my Senior Year in H.S.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...ndWhiteDB2.jpg

1993 Toyota MR2 Turbo. Swapped to the CT20b turbo, Tein HA coilovers. After totaling my Integra due to the lack of real driving knowledge, I signed up a driving program called Xtreme Measures. I later became good enough to instruct a couple times before the program was sold off to Richard Petty.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...o/DSCN0195.jpg

2006 Honda S2000. I bought this car brand new at the age of 19 but shortly sold it after making the monthly note and insurance. Was not cheap; car note was $5xx plus $365 for insurance. Paying ~$1k/month just to have it in my driveway was retarded. lol

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...0/DSCN0749.jpg

1997 BMW M3. Picked up this pristine car in Colorado. Awesome car. This turned in to an awesome roadtrip to get it from CO to GA.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...3/DSCN0789.jpg

After selling my Dakar M3, I ended up picking up another '97 M3. This car was totaled within the first couple months due to hitting a deer at ~70mph. :(

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...DSC_4752-1.jpg

2004 Honda S2000. This is still one of the most fun cars I've owned. After numerous different wheel and coilover setups, I decided to sell it for a new toy. This picture was when it was on Zeal coilovers and Advan RG wheels; one of three sets in this color and size in the US.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...%20S2000/4.jpg

2005 Evolution MR. During my window shopping one night, I came across this stock, mint MR for sale in Tampa. Flew down with a buddy to pick it up. On the way back, I started hearing rod knock. Come to find out, the oil pump took a crap so I was already having to pay for another motor before getting the car home. Off to a bad start. I would buy one of these again.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...6e9029b9_b.jpg

2003 Subaru WRX. I was commenting to my fiance about Subaru's about if I were to buy a WRX, it'd have to be a Bugeye in Sonic Yellow. I came across one with a bad motor FS on NASIOC. After doing a hybrid EJ (built EJ257 block using stock EJ20 heads, rotated turbo kit, rotated intake manifold, a P/S line let go causing it to burn down while visiting TX for TX2K11. I never want to watch that in person again.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6049/6...a354fd941f.jpg

Picked up a 2003 Xterra SE 4x4 during the same visit in TX so we could get home. Loved the color but damn did it lack power and have bad fuel consumption. Would not buy again.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7233/7...7bde55b111.jpg

1993 Mazda RX-7 with an LS1 swap. This is my favorite car to date but simply didn't drive it enough due to my long commute at the time so I ended up selling it in September. I'll build another one soon.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8359/8...0c7cb01df2.jpg

1991 Mazda Miata. I wanted a 1.6L as I feel like it's more driving spirit than the later 1.8L model. Like my first Miata, my intentions were to use it for a track toy. I installed a matching hardtop, suspension and 949 6UL's.

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...psa8a5c470.jpg

I sold the FD with the intentions of buying an NSX but have yet to find the perfect one. Due to my previous commute of ~72 miles each way to work, I was growing old of driving the '91 Miata (with no A/C) so I purchased the BRZ as a daily until I find my next project.

Thoughts on the Fiat 124?

The Fiat 124 Sport Spider was hands-down the most fun car I've ever owned.
I bought it rust-free for $4200.
It had already been re-sprayed in the original red, and the original 1600 had been swapped out for an 1800 DOHC out of a '74.
I dumped another $4k into that car including labor.
I found FIVE Cromadora CD-3's and had them powdercoated "sparkle silver" and wrapped them in Kumho KR21's.
International Auto Parts performance header.
Ansa performance exhaust.
International Auto Parts performance springs, sway bars and polyurethane bushings.
KYB replacement shocks.
New Italian radiator, hoses and heater core valve.
I restored the interior.
It had a new black vinyl top when I bought it as well, and the early chrome bumpers were perfect.
The car seemed to have no limits, handling wise. I've never raced a car around as recklessly as I did that Fiat. It sounded incredible, throaty, but not loud. I drifted that thing through just about every intersection I ever went through. I swear it had no limit. The most it would ever do is the back would step out a few inches. My '92 MR2 would have ploughed right off the road if I thought about pushing it even half as hard. The FR-S handles great but it has a limit also, and being a fairly heavy car you don't want to push that limit on public roads. The Fiat was ALWAYS well mannered, and I think most people would forgive you driving like an ass because it was such a happy little red Italian roadster.
It was a GREAT little car and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. I wanted street cams and a hard top but wound up selling it to buy my wife's engagement ring. :-)

Oh. I forgot.
Being the 4th owner of that Fiat, I was never sure if my gearbox was from the '70 or the '74, but the gearing seemed pretty low. Redline (for the 1600) was 5500rpm, and the car felt pretty wound-out at 4000rpm doing an indicated 80mph on the freeway. I also had no way of knowing if my '74 1800 DOHC was rebuilt or not, the car had 48,000 miles on the odometer. On paper I think I should have had between 110 and 120hp, but I never dynoed it. My original owners manual claimed a vehicle weight of 2100lbs.
The ONLY street race I ever did in my life was against my buddy in his Honda Del Sol. I was pretty surprised that my Fiat destroyed him utterly by the time we reached 50. It was highly un-scientific of course, but I think I had an easy two car lengths on him each time.

My last and best car restoration; 1973 Super Beetle 1303. Brought back to life (Ellie) named after my late Mom was buried in tall grass not running and looked beyond hope. Well eight months later she has a 1915cc engine, Dual Carbs, full custom interior, exterior (Lambo Orange), Highway Flyer Tranny with limited slip Diff, Topline Selecta Drop, 4 Wheel Disk vented Brakes, Custom made Smoked Rain Deflectors, Alpine Stereo, Infinity Kappa 6x9" rear Speakers, 6" Kappa in front doors behind the door panels with Infinity Sub in Back Parcel shelf.
Built my Dream mobile.
I've built many but this was my best
