I went to the dark side
I replaced my FRS with a 13 Camaro 1LE
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps623362e9.jpg I have a set of Enkei RPF1 17x7 ET42 wheels and Dunlop Z2 225/45/17 tires. $800 plus shipping if anyone is interested. I am going back to my roots. Missed the torque and power too much. |
Can I have the exact location to your house?
|
^ lol
|
After taking the depreciation hit, the price of the new car and taxes on the new car, would it not have been cheaper to get that power you craved from a PD SC or Turbo on the FRS?

Dark side? Nah. I reckon both cars on the FUN SIDE! :) I'd be interested in your thoughts following the first weeks of ownership after your FR-S. |
That car has to feel like a tank after driving the FR-S. Not a knock, fat girls need love too.
|
She sure looks perty, but can she turn? All joking aside .... Nice looking car.

Dark side would have been a Miata or gen coupe.
Muscle is muscle! I like! |
Actually I didn't take too much of a hit. Traded for $9,495 difference on a car that stickered for $37,035. The car was a special event car that Chevrolet had on display at Camaro Fest. Had 170 miles on it when I picked it up.
As far as a comparison goes it's kind of comparing apples to oranges. The Camaro is huge in comparison both in size and weight, but with the 1LE package drives a lot smaller than it is. I'll probably be doing quite a few track events and autocrossing with it. I loved the FRS but was never really happy with the car for autocross. My driving style probably had a lot to do with it. I've always been much more successfull driving higher powered cars that pull hard out of a corner. Guess I'm more of a point and shoot driver compared to a momentum one. There's night and day difference between the SS and the 1LE. They engineered a ton of understeer out of the 1LE stealling a bunch of suspension parts from the ZL and running 285/35/20 tires front and rear rather than 305's in the back. 10" and 11" wide wheels from the ZL1. Close ratio tranny, short shifter and 3.91 rear gears. |
congrats man!
86 isn't the answer for everyone. glad you found yours. enjoy driving! |

At the the end of the day most of them weren't laughing anymore and were crawling all over the car, as they had just gotten their ass handed to them by a mulletmobile. Put on the plate frame from my 02. The Mulletmobile. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps63962ac5.jpg |
Love the new Camaro's. Wish we could get them here in Aus (We can but they're stupidly overpriced to the point where it's cheaper to buy a Porsche Cayman).
Rented one last time I was in LA. Loved it. |
Nice car. Try, drive and enjoy as many as you can. As I've said many times; so many cars, so little time.
|
Congrats on the purchase.
I couldn't get myself to pull the trigger on a Camaro during my shopping days, as much as I sometimes wanted to. They're great muscle cars. Enjoy! |
PM me with pics and info on rims and tires please.

Car looks great! Any major mod plans?

Great car. I had every intention of buying a Camaro when they were first brought back. I was just disappointed that they made them so big. I like smaller cars but my brother has a 13 ZL1 and I must admit they do not feel that big when you are attacking the curves in them. And the POWER is awesome. Congratz on your ILE. It is a beauty.

I'm a 302 fan myself. Grandpa had a 2012 302 for about 6 months. Got to take it to a track in Florida. Soooo much fun. Then he went to a gt500. Not nearly as much fun to corner. Took him a year to go back to porches. Wish I had the money he does lol. I love my FRS none the less but a TQ bump would be nice.

Why are you still here, since you clearly disagree with the entire premise of the 86/FR-S/BRZ so much? Nearly every post you make is critical of the car, complaining about the power, praising high-horsepower cars, etc. We get it - you like cars that are fast in a straight line. I just don't get why you stay here, instead of going over to the SRT Challenger forums, or something like that. As for the OP: Gorgeous Camaro. I love how they look (and that red is awesome), and by all accounts, the LE is the one I'd want to have. Well balanced handling, plenty of power, and pretty reasonably priced too (though I don't want to know what the tires cost...). I'd love to drive one someone if I get the chance. Enjoy your fun new ride :D |
When I saw the title " I went to the dark side" I surely thought it was about FRS went FI especially it's under FRS section :( such trickery!
nice car btw |
Grats man.
Sounds like you got a great deal on the Camaro as well. I came from an SRT8 Challenger...so I know how torque can be addictive lol. It is all about picking what you like the most, or getting both. Heck, in a year or two, you can probably get a used twin for fairly cheap and have both! At least that is my plan, (I will probably get a used muscle car down the road...unless Subaru blows me away with a new Hatchback STI). My BRZ is a blast to drive around here (Washington state). I love my mountain roads and the twisties not too far away. But I do miss the pavement punishing torque of 8 cylinders. For now I get my torque feeling from my 1700cc Motorcycle >:) On that note...as a teen...I never understood how famous people had like 10 cars... Now I get it... |
wow, nice pick...and awesome color!
Im jealous of the torque lol |
Congrats. A friend of mine recently picked up a 1LE...night and day difference between that and a regular SS. The 1LE package has always been highly desirable and hard to get. It's basically Chevy's road course pkg for the street. Back in the '80s, you had to delete the air conditioning, along with a few other items, to even be able to get one.

I wanted a 13 1SS in red. Chevrolet only built 76 of them. Was lucky to find what I wanted at the end of the model year. |

Enjoy your blind spots and extremely heavy car. Should have gotten a 5.0 if you wanted power. At least Ford is even further going to reduce the weight on the Mustang in the future.
I got rid of my 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary because: A) It's not all about going fast in a straight line B) Daily driving it gets 18 mpg C) Long term reliability on electronics questionable (power windows, etc) D) Handling was not too outstanding Granted it was the last generation of the LS1, it was still fairly heavy, but nothing like the new one. They're good weekend cars and I plan on owning either a Mustang or a new gen Camaro that is lighter than the current one a few years down the road as a weekend warrior car. |
SVthis ..... Your next trade up should be the C7. Saw one the other day. Amazing.
|
That looks like fun. Tell me... can it do burnouts without breaking stuff? Sometimes I just really crave an effortless gigantic tire roast. I've never had a car that could truly do it well.
|
very pretty
i'm a sucker for muscle cars........can't come up with a good excuse to trade in our second car for a challenger that car blew me away when i drove it.......and i drool over it every time i see it on the road |
Congrats on the car... very nice. I spent some time autocrossing a mostly-stock '02 SS this year - that thing surprised the heck out of me. Immensely FUN and it had some nice handling traits... I was not that expecting that especially on tight-ish autocross courses.
