AirLift Performance - Video

Video comparison between Air Suspension and Coilovers. They had 3 cars(Mustang, BRZ, R32). Three different test(200ft skidpad, 100ft slalom, 2.3 mile road course). Results are pretty interesting, but I wish they gave us what coilovers were used on each car. Update 11/11/13: So, apparently they are running V3's? |

Kinda ruins the whole thing... |
I was there the day they were performing the testing although I didn't inquire about what coilovers they were comparing the AirLift suspension to. While they were doing their thing, the shop I was working for at the time, were learning the track preparing for One Lap of America.
without knowing what kind of coils and settings it would have been more valuable if they had they compared to stock
the BRZ was using Stance Coilovers
I still find it hard to believe that air could be better than coilovers. I'd be scared to drive my car hard if I had an air suspension. It would always be in the back of my head that the bag would pop. I have a friend on bags on this z33 and his bags popped twice the last two months. And he barely drives it hard.
For what the air kit costs ($3400 for the manual kit), they should be comparing to Ohlins or something pretty close to it.
interesting results, wish they would have compared it to equal value coilovers

Awesome. |
Now, I am not saying this video is bias, but for some reason when a company compares its product to the competitions the results may not be truthful. Plus for 3K you can get some really really good coilovers.

Yeah $3.5K air suspension vs $800 coilovers = not a fair comparison. Put them against some Ohlins R&T or Tein SRC's or KW clubsports then we will see which is superior.
It's like comparing Apples to Oranges. I asked them for the info on the coilovers, but wouldn't give it to me. They said it was just a test to show us how far air bags have come comparing to coilovers. lol I do like their product though. It's track worthy, but I love to see a comparison to high end coilovers.
Just another company trying to cash in on the ignorance of consumers. Nothing new.
I will say that this does seem like a decent product for what it is. You can slam it when you are hard parked and you'd still get decent performance around the track. Should be a very good product for the "hellaflush" people. |
they should of swapped the tires out on every trial so it will be a fair comparison.
I want to see this comparison performed by a third party. For all we know, they either chose the slowest lap times of the coil over system and or they were not driving the coil over equipped cars as hard.
Looks like a good kit for your everyday driver and car show enthusiast. Personally I wouldn't track it but I do like the concept.
Interesting video. Bags are still not my thing. Too many things left out to leave most people questioning. Air suspension is more of a jack-of-all-trades suspension, having slammed and mediocre performance in the same bag. Although you could spend less than half and have the same if they really had Stance coils.
Like someone pointed out, if they had stock suspension, that would be a greater indicator of what to expect. Also, the wheels on the BRZ... aren't those really heavy wheels? |
Just found out that they were using V3 on the BRZ

If they honestly performed better than a coilover setup then they should publicly show what they compared against. Ask them, literally, pics or gtfo
