Power Folding Mirrors?

1 Attachment(s)
Does the BRZ have power folding mirrors because I have seen various pictures that show it does. The only picture I could find at the moment however is not up close but I vividly remember the button on the left of the mirror adjustment knob on the picture below (would be on the right of the knob on north american cars) is for folding the mirrors. Also on this review http://superadrianme.com/2012/04/09/...rz-sports-car/ it shows that it does include power folding mirrors. So the question is does it? It's not very important it's a little gimmick and I was just wondering :).

Subie 04-17-2012 01:36 PM

The press pictures on Subaru's website do not show the power-folding mirror button. I looked at the same thing a week ago. I do not believe the US-spec cars have it.

OrbitalEllipses 04-17-2012 01:38 PM

JDM spec cars do. Is power folding really a big deal if you can still manually fold them?

M-17 04-17-2012 01:48 PM

Consider that a luxury and a nice addition, but pointless to me imo. And from what I've seen, no, the U.S. version didn't have it. Maybe in the future perhaps?

RRnold 04-17-2012 02:17 PM

To me, power folding mirrors are another one of those dumb features; just like the AUTO feature for headlights.

Dave-ROR 04-17-2012 02:59 PM

They make sense in very confined parking areas, which are common in Japan. They don't make sense here IMO. People will install them just to be "JDM YO!".

Want.FR-S 04-17-2012 03:04 PM

In a tight-space area like Japan or Asia, folding your mirrors after you park is essential so that your mirrors will not be destroyed by others. The North America spec does not have this feature because no one here would need to use it.

Turbowned 04-17-2012 03:07 PM

Yeah, our parking spaces are big enough that they really aren't needed, especially considering how skinny the car is to begin with. In Japan though, it's a different story.

AVOturboworld 04-17-2012 06:05 PM

Spent many years parking in Japan. If you don't fold your mirrors in, somebody is going to fold them in for you, sometimes violently. Yes, the parking spaces available are that tight. Heck, I've been on a few roads in Japan between brick walls where I had to fold the mirrors in to get down them. Seriously.

So yeah, in Japan, power folding mirrors are pretty much standard equipment on all but the cheapest of cars (and they'll have manual folding mirrors). America? No need - how many people do you see parking by backing in in America?

+1 myself since I have to parallel park 90% of the time plus I park better in reverse. Don't need them 'power-folding' mirrors; adds weight.

migle 04-17-2012 09:20 PM

No need to attack me guys... I was just wondering what they were for and if they were in the US spec version of the car. Thanks to all that thoroughly explained it :)

Dark 04-17-2012 11:36 PM

It's a nice feature, but I don't really want one in a sport car. Luxury car or GT cars, yes.

I always park by backing in. I wish this car had a rearview camera..oh wait...all cars will have that starting in 2014.

folding mirrors...naw don't really need them...

Really?? Definitely getting a 2013 model, then. One stupid "driver aid" after another. What ever happened to actually knowing how to drive and park? No offense to you tripjammer, just a general observation that cars are becoming too soft. I've got a backup cam in the Audi - I think I've used it once.

Hanzo 04-18-2012 03:49 PM

More weight, more money, more expensive to replace, more things to go wrong for something that you don't exactly need.

You've obviously never lived in Queens, NY lol. Seriously mirrors get taken off all the time on sidestreets in NYC. The roads are never wide enough and some arshole always has to double park so that you can move without trying to squeeze through.

Most definitely, but still the person can get out their car and fold it themselves or reach over to do so as well.

I NEVER touch my headlights, they are always on the way I want them, I don't even think about it anymore, love that feature!

The mirror thing, yeah, no interest.

Laika 04-18-2012 06:15 PM

FWIW...

The power folding mirrors are not a "dumb feature". They are an extremely useful JDM feature for navigating through tight JAPANESE roads.

That's why the USDM cars dont have them, we have large USDM sized roads :party0030:

Oriental Life 04-18-2012 06:26 PM

Apparently you never had one of these, living in metropolitan areas:

https://encrypted-tbn0.google.com/im...nsOg4M34lckNaQ

I'd take it.

Turbowned 04-18-2012 06:48 PM

They're still MANUAL folding mirrors. Don't everyone start crying at once!

DEC1 04-18-2012 07:35 PM

Imagine living in a place where the width of a mirror is a space issue...yikes...I don't want to live there for sure...Japan or NYC.
Agreed on no need for power folding. With all the other compromises to light weight and purpose built performance this seems like an odd addition...

fistpoint 04-18-2012 11:10 PM

God I hope it doesn't...I keep my vehicles a minimum of 7 years. This would be just another random and useless thing to break after time, at significant cost most likely. Mirrors are already really expensive to replace. Tail and headlights have also fallen into this new dilemma.

slaxx 04-19-2012 12:02 AM

I would really appreciate folding mirrors in San Francisco! I'm carefully squeezing between cars everyday. As in less than 2"

 Just O'farrell Parking and other undergrounds near Union\Market, these alone can justify folding mirrors.

I used those in EU - loved them. Very handy. Will go JDM, probably.

sterile stork 04-20-2012 12:07 AM

I had this feature on my recent 3-series. I'd certainly look to add this feature if at all possible after receiving my BRZ, hopefully a DIY surfaces in that time.

Bristecom 04-20-2012 01:36 AM

We have tight garage space with 2 fairly wide sedans and are often trying to get around them and always having to fold the mirrors up. The new Kia we got does this at the push of a button so it's already much nicer. But it's not a big deal. This car is narrower than many anyway.

They're not auto folding mirrors like some luxo cars. You still have to push a button. So if they break/fail on you, it'll be like you never had them and you'll be back to manual folding mirrors.

Navi 04-20-2012 06:12 AM

The mirrors on my Fiesta ST '08 fold automatically when i lock the car.
Or i can press a button inside the car to fold them.

NYC's not bad, you just gotta know where to park

Anyway, it would be nice if this were an option for the people that want it.
Personally I just fold them myself.

Sasquachulator 04-20-2012 10:35 AM

my car doesnt have folding mirrors.....

Some cars like BMW's fold...upwards at an angle, and that seems somewhat pointless because they space saved doesnt seem to be the most efficient as one that folds towards the door.
