Vandalized FR-S + Police = Solution?

Long story short: I'm driving in a neighborhood and I see a lady staring at me as she is walking into the street so I stop. She freaks out on me telling me to slow down (Digital speedo..I know I wasn't speeding). Her husband then comes out of their house and begins threatening me. He couldn't control his anger and was yelling at me using very offensive language. It looked as though he was going to reach into my car so I took off. Seconds later I hear something hit the side of my car. I parked, looked at the damage (small crease and scratches on the passenger door), then called the police. I got a case number and was told to wait and a detective might call me later this week. Will anything come out of this? I would hate having to pay for this myself especially since it wasn't my fault. I got an estimate for $770. Any suggestions? My insurance is already crazy so I'm not going through my insurance.

Summary: Someone got angry and threw something at my car that caused $770 worth of damage. Made a police report and was told a detective MIGHT call me in the next week. Is there anything I should to so that this man pays for the damage?

TwinturboCamry 11-05-2013 12:37 PM

Sue in small claims and slow down?

#944_10_Series_FRS 11-05-2013 12:39 PM

Did you happen to have the after market exhaust on your car? Just saying

Tagera 11-05-2013 12:39 PM

I also recommend moving. To another state completely as a matter of fact. Unless you're nuts and happens to think okiehoma is a nice state full of wonderful people.

campy 11-05-2013 12:41 PM

Why didn't you just drive off as soon as she said to slow down?

Do a sweet burnout or something.

I was wondering the same thing. People always assume you're driving fast if they can hear your exhaust. I try to go extra slow in neighborhoods since I have a Perrin. Also helps to smile and wave at everyone.

Same things here loll! Old lady tell me to slow down..... but i stop my car front of her and i do a big burnout for this bitch!! Limit is 40 kmh and i roll 42.... i have header etc... people react for nothing! Specialy people dont know anything!

MightyMeeple 11-05-2013 12:52 PM

Back on topic:

If you are already not going to file an insurance claim (your deductible is likely at least $500 anyway), then I don't see how a police report will help you. I would say there is zero chance of the police charging the offenders (you didn't actually see them throw something at your car did you?).

Sad and frustrating turn of events for you. Best of luck in getting repairs.

sounds like that moment when you decide to put a bag of poop on their porch

Kwisak 11-05-2013 12:59 PM

Best thing to do is ignore and keep on going, once you stop it never really ends well. You would have to go to Small claims court or insurance claim. To do either you will need some money up front.

hur1ey02 11-05-2013 01:06 PM

Check with your insurance agent on vandalism coverage for your policy. A lot of policies include this under comprehensive coverage, which would be minimal deductible.

daftpunk 11-05-2013 01:07 PM

That's a tough situation. You should have probably stopped right away, confront them and threaten to call the cops on the spot for vandalism. Frankly the cops probably don't care now, and it's unlikely that that'd take action, especially with no proof. It's so easy for the lady and her husband to deny the whole thing.

Back in highschool, somebody I knew did the same thing (he was the aggressor)
threw a brick/large rock or something at a lady's car. She stopped, called the cops.
I think he was charged and was forced to do community service and take anger management classes. This was in canada though, lol.

"Don't stomp it out with your boots, Ted!"

Taking action may cost you more than the damage... Not a guarentee you will win against them because its word vs. word. Unless you have witnesses or some decent evidence of what happened it may be cheapest to just get it repaired.
Idk why you would stop though unless you were planning on confronting them... Screw people like that, she's just a nutbag who can't visually tell when a car is going fast. If you were in fact following the law then you don't even have to bother reacting to stuff like that

I might not have been clear enough in the first post, but he picked something up from the street as I was walking up to the man. The cops found batteries and pieces of the remote.

The man is huge and I'm not. He also mentioned that he's a hunter and has a bunch of guns. The cops also told me to stay away.
I think I should swing by tomorrow and give him a copy of the estimate and hope he does the right thing :iono:

The only person trolling here is you..

Someone threw a portable radio at my friends car on the highway in an act of road rage. We called the police and gave the license plate number. The detective just made a report about it. My friend never pursued it so I don't know what would have happened. If you want to go through the process it seems pretty simple you will be awarded the money if the person admits to doing it to the detective and he writes it in his report.

-I'm 20 years old
-put all my money as a down payment ($5,000)
-I've had over 15 tickets and 4 wrecks (my fault) in the past 5 years. 3 of those tickets and 2 of the wrecks were in the past 3 years.
-Since I have a bad record, my dad has insurance on the car but I drive.
-I'm a full time student
-I work 55 hours a week making minimum wage.
-I've been leasing the FR-S for 7 months

So a few days ago I rear ended a car and caused 7k worth of damage to my love. Insurance is fixing the car but I will have to get my own insurance. I've gotten quotes at around $800 per month! As a student, I can't afford to pay over $1100 per month to drive this awesome car. Since this car is leased, what options do I have? I can't imagine working all summer to buy a POS Civic and still pay $300 per month for liability. I'd appreciate any kind of advice.

radroach 11-05-2013 09:11 PM

@Joetheegyptian Do you have comprehensive insurance? That would cover the damage.

GMU-BRZ 11-05-2013 09:14 PM

Wasn't driving fast yet you've had 15 tickets and 4 wrecks in 5 years?

My advice, go back and demand the guy pay for it. With any luck he'll shoot you dead so you aren't such a goddamn hazard to everyone else on the road.

1) Should have stopped and took care of it there, do that next time
2) Listen to the cops
3) He vandalized you car, what do you think the chances of him having a change of heart is and paying you?
4) Lesson learned

bkblitzed 11-05-2013 09:40 PM

bring some friends and go to his house to give him the papers. Me and all my friends carry knives on us at all times, just in case something happens.

I feel like the average age of this forum is somewhere close to 19.

And there are 2 definitively separate groups. The younger crowd, and the older crowd. The older crowd always contributes, the younger always posts these threads.

It's a bit annoying. Obviously OP was doing something stupid in a neighborhood. Now, you take OP, 20 years old, 15 tickets, and 4 wrecks. Now picture OP.

Now picture OP driving an FR-S that is in dire need of some cats.

Wouldn't you do the same?

I'm sure OP was cocky with the guy. The story just doesn't add up otherwise.

stugray 11-05-2013 09:54 PM

"-I've had over 15 tickets and 4 wrecks (my fault) in the past 5 years. 3 of those tickets and 2 of the wrecks were in the past 3 years."

Yet you couldnt possibly have been driving like a jackass and pissing someone off while driving around their neighborhood?

I am 46, and drive race cars (porsches, surpas, etc.) and havent even had 2 tickets in the last 15 years.

However I HAVE had a face to face conversation with an officer at the PO about me nearly kicking some kids ass for driving 55 in my grandkids crosswalk....
The kid was in the room with me and the officer and he was about to throwup
But I chose to not press any charges....

Maybe you should just get over it.

I'm not usually one to judge somebody like this but maybe you are just a bad driver? I still remember that other thread you made. You don't think you were going fast... you have over 15 tickets in just 5 years.. maybe you should give us your definition of not speeding.

your quote from previous thread:

Just got home from the bar and now I'm reading this thread while waiting for Top Gear US to come on. I remember your other thread too. You're either a troll of a colossal fuck-up. I'll let you choose which.
