Winter is coming....

Hey peeps in the 253-206-360 area code!

Here in the Seattle-Tacoma area we really don't get much snow, but we do however get ice....

Going from a beater I've never really cared about (2004 Corolla) to a 2014 FR-S is a HUGE difference.

I'm not afraid to admit i'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to cars but I'm learning and learning!

My FR-S is my DD, and I do not have any other cars. With that being said, what are you doing to prepare yours for winter time? I want to keep my paint in high quality shape, and cannot afford new wheels or tires at the moment, how much does that matter? Please help :iono:

Winter tires for the winter?! Hell, I'm getting a set for the summer... Catch my drift?!

:burnrubber:

m.box.design 10-31-2013 09:03 PM

Last year i bought a used set of Toyo winter tires for 60 bucks. Horrible traction in the wet (and dry). Maybe I look for a more legit set this year.

Store the car!

I WISH I COULD!

I reckon that depends on how much you drive in the winter. If it's just a short distance and you are careful and go slow and the roads aren't snow covered, you could get by with your "summer" tires.

HOWEVER ....... I would recommend at least some A/S tires. I just put on a set of Goodyear, Eagle, Sports A/S. They work good for these parts, so far .

Where'd you get em, and how much?

EDIT: I drive from Hilltop to S Tacoma Way

I bought them at the Goodyear Tire Center, 11904 Meridian St E, Puyallup. 253-840-0995.

I trust all of my vehicle maintenance needs to these folks.

215/45R17 Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S

$150.00 per tire.

Nope, they aren't cheap .... but they have a 50,000 mile tread wear warranty. They run quiet, good grip on the wet and good grip on the dry. We shall see about grip on light snow. They are very responsive.

The complete 4 tire package came to about $770.00.

My plan is to rotate them with the OEM summer tires, so I figure I'm set for tires for 80-90,000 miles.

If its worth it i'll more then likely end up buying, thanks

Instead of buying tires. Just buy a piece of crap car for winter. Spend 1-2k and not worry about winter damage or some asshat rearending you because it was slippery out. Then after winter sell the crap car to some high school kid!

stockysnail 11-01-2013 12:11 PM

House Stark ftw! ;)

Missy 11-06-2013 05:30 AM

Shit, I have to worry about getting tires!? I hardly have enough money to put stuff I actually want to pay for on my car..
I'm glad I saw this thread but I'm fucked :/

Tagera 11-06-2013 08:59 AM

It depends on how bad it gets. They do a good job of keeping the roads clean from what I've seen so it shouldn't be an issue. Just drive slow, have it in snow setting and put some weight in back.

Missy 11-06-2013 08:35 PM

I spose I'll be borrowing bags of kitty litter!

Missy 11-06-2013 09:57 PM

Haha, I'd need a buddy to haul the tires for me anyway! My trunk is full of shit..
I do have a retractable club in my car and I knife on me at all times though, ya know zombie apocalypse insurance. ;D

They could probably do the whole extended arm head grab to me and I'd be screwed, I'm like a little kid with a sailors vocab.

Haha, yes my FAMILY has always had interest in nice vroom-y vehicles. My dad has always had corvettes(once a 350z but didn't car for it) he currently has but rarely drives a 50th anniversary and his Harley fat boy he never rides anymore. My mom has a flat pink '39 dodge with a 400 big block, it has yellow and teal accents on the side and interior. Their DD is a Lexus LS460L. They're in te middle of purchasing a Toyota tundra the 17something or other addition and then there's my little FRS :]

It's safe to say we appritiate vehicles.

I wish I could but idfk how to load pictures on here from my phone! No computer and I'm not very tech savvy.

Tagera 11-07-2013 06:59 PM

The 350z and 370z are both crap. Ugly, and for having a good bit more horsepower then the FR-S. And they do such a poor job of being drivable.
