2014 FT86CUP rules discussion

Obviously, the 2013 rules were hastily written, and a lot of flaws were exposed. It was the best that we could do at the time, given the extremely limited data we had.

Additionally, we were trying to keep it simple, and encourage as many people as possible to come out.

I'd like to start a discussion for 2014, and get feedback from the community.

@robispec: As always, your input is highly valued.

I will delegate myself to moderating the discussion, rather than putting in my opinions.

First rule: You do not talk about FT86CUP.

Anthonytpt 10-30-2013 07:40 PM

Third Rule: If the track marshal says "stop" or your FT86 goes into limp-mode, the race is over.

OrbitalEllipses 10-30-2013 08:38 PM

Fourth rule: only two cars to a hot lap.

Anthonytpt 10-31-2013 12:27 PM

Sixth Rule: Yes helmet, yes shoes.

Anthonytpt 10-31-2013 12:29 PM

What flaws have been identified?

Seventh Rule: Race will go on for as long as it has to.

OrbitalEllipses 10-31-2013 01:14 PM

2014 FT86CUP is an enduro!

TylerLieberman 10-31-2013 01:21 PM

eigth rule: flipping your car results in an automatic win for the event.

no man, the 8th and final rule is

The last rule is the 10th rule. The 9th rule is that there are only 10 rules.

7thgear 10-31-2013 01:41 PM

did you even watch fightclub?

Let's PM a mod and get those disgraceful posts removed from this wonderful thread.

CSG Mike 10-31-2013 01:53 PM

I'm not sure whether I should be laughing or slightly disappointed.

I think both.

Anthonytpt 10-31-2013 03:11 PM

Yes, but...

Rule Five: Only one FT86CUP enduro at a time.

I'd like to see some events happen outside of California. Like the midwest. :)

This, but preferably north west ;)

Here are the 2000cc rules we race to, maybe you can find something useful to copy. This series is 7 years running and still going strong. http://www.crc.me/index.php?option=c...=599&Itemid=31

What were the flaws?

I think there should be some sort of quick inspection during sign up for the competition to verify mods done and classification of each contestant.

A quick look at the tire TW rating, look under the hood and car for any obvious modification from factory or weight reduction besides removing the spare tire and tools and carpets. So on and so forth. Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to do per car.

If I'm at the event, I don't mind doing that before and in between my sessions.

Anthonytpt 11-14-2013 02:00 PM

What rules are carrying over? Are you looking to start from scratch? What were the deficiencies?

oohh Do like.

solidONE 11-15-2013 01:33 AM

That is an awesome idea.

Guff 11-15-2013 02:58 AM

I have no idea what this FT86Cup is, but if there is a Midwest one, I will happily race in it.

Yes, you should have! I was in the Chicagoland area that weekend as well!

I'd love to be able to create a unified ruleset so that the FT86CUP can be replicated nationwide with different regions, and (just a pipe dream), a national championship

Me neither, but would be interesting to have chassis specific event.

The glass is half full, my friend.

We need to get some 86 folks and shops in the Midwest to pitch in taking down lap times at events and do tech inspection etc. Good platform for local shops to market themselves out in that area if they like to sponsor some prizes or manpower at the track whatever. We can do it regionally with socal chapter and Midwest chapter for now and see where that goes from there. Maybe it'll go national, maybe not, but this is a great way to start.

CSG Mike 11-15-2013 06:56 PM

@Guff @Touge Factory: you guys willing to handle mid-west? Are there track day organizations out there that can host events for you guys?

TrogDor the Burninator 11-15-2013 07:19 PM

I'm in the NASA Central region ... and will be doing events all next season. Some are shared with the Great Lakes region ... We're doing a crossover event with them at Road America in August. I could start looking at official results for Time Trial events across all NASA regions and tying them to tracks. Base Class for the FR-S/BRZ is TTD ... but any power mods or major weight/aero can quickly put you up a class into TTC.

solidONE 11-15-2013 11:54 PM

NASA TT rules for reference:
http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/time_trial_rules.pdf

I like the current stock and under classifications robispec and CSG drew up. Pretty fair and fairly easy to verify classifications. The "over class" is a bit broad. Then again, there aren't too many 86 modified to those levels coming out to the tracks just yet.

We have tracked with couple organizations here. I"m sure I could drop the idea to these guys.
GPSTracktime - These guys would have the ability to have timing equipment etc.
