Ever think of running from the police?
I got my first ticket in my FR-S today. It was completely my fault, going 72 in a 55. I briefly thought about gunning it as I saw him putting away his laser gun but common sense prevailed and I pulled over to the right lane as he came up fast. He wrote me up for speeding but didn't give me any additional fines for no front license plate or that my insurance card had expired a week ago. After handing me the ticket, he started asking me questions about the car - fuel efficiency, horse power, etc. and was pretty nice about it.
I was wondering though, besides the guy who totaled his FR-S running from the police around May, have any of you ran away successfully? If you ran and got caught, what happened then? I apologize in advance if this post in inappropriate. EDIT: I changed it from "outrunning" to "running from" in the title because it's obvious that we're not gonna outrun the police |
I sometimes have daydreams about maybe pushing a button to blow up cars of people that can't drive, or perhaps my driver would open the sunroof so I could light them up with the mounted machine gun. I would pretend I had my own country and I was a total asshole and could do crap like that.
I would never do that in real life though. I don't have my own country :( But yeah, don't do that. Keep them as daydreams/fantasy |
Well, I think about it all the time. I also think about running over pedestrians and cyclists, driving the wrong way on the highway, doing a Rendezvous-style run at dawn through San Francisco, and driving off every bridge/overpass I come across.
But, I have never, and will never, do any of those things; the risk and gain would never be worth the reward. That's what Grand Theft Auto is for :thumbup: :party0030: |

out run the police in a 4 cylinder? Maybe out maneuver with the FRS, but 200 hp won't cut it for out running a cruiser!

i've ran from police when I still had my DC2 Integra. And got away. Wasn't on an empty straight road though. This however was several years ago and I wouldn't do that now.

When he was writing me a ticket for speeding he said he thought I was trying to get away - though completely the opposite as I had slowed down through a construction zone after he caught me on radar and I had no idea he was there!

I daydream more about empty roads, like blasting the length of a couple freeways without lifting doing a 100+ mile trip in less than an hour, drifting through a couple clovers, apexing through downtown, dropping the front wheel at the apex of a hairpin mountain road etc.

Time for an old true story:
I know a guy who was DUI, driving through a college campus. Some clueless college ped got in front of him as he's creeping around a corner and he bumps the ped inadvertently and the ped falls down, gets up, starts to make a ruckus. Driver realizes where this is going, sees an opportunity, guns it and leaves. He gets home, tunes up his police scanner, hears the cops closing in on his house, looks out front, sees cop cars showing up, ducks out the back, walks to police station, turns himself in. Now they can't get him on DUI or leaving the scene. He shows up at a party later, showing off this great huge honking police walkie talkie. "Where'd you get that?" "Stole it at the cop shop." The incident with the ped results in a court date. He goes to court a couple weeks early, sits through proceedings, kinda dawdles out at the end (last to leave), ducks back in the court room, hides under a bench for hours. Once the place is silent, he locates his court files, pulls em (I am guessing he got inside info here). This being back in the age of paper, that was sufficient, the matter never came up again. He went on to become (wait for it) a brain surgeon. So there are no records to be set here. |

Ha! I sort of ran from the cops once. I say sort of because I didn't actually try to get away, there was just too much traffic for him to pull out onto the road to pull me over. I did make sure I made the next few traffic lights though;)

I often day dream about it... but I have a Radar which has saved my ass countless of times...

Someone once told me this story…
There was a guy who was about to get a DUI. He was driving drunk and pulled off the road to throw up. He sees a cop pull up with lights flashing. He was only a block from his house, and where he pulled over was a wooded area. As the cop was getting ready to come to the car, the guy sneaks away. He gets home, calls the cops, and reports his car as a stolen vehicle. |
Of course I daydream of running from the cops but that daydream somehow it also includes some broken bones, six months with a roommate named Bubba, and my farts going from having a deep full sound to just an old lady whistling sound! That usually calms me down and I just take my ticket with a smile!

The best I've done is immediately exit the freeway when I know I've been hit with a laser from behind and pull into a drive through or something. That's worked a couple times, but running from them in a BRZ? Hell no.
We had a cav soldier in my old brigade who thought he could outrun them on his motorcycle on I-5. He found out the hard way that like mentioned before, radios outrun everything. They nailed his ass and then he had the delight of facing UCMJ. |
Where I live, cops don't bother if your going 200+

Having worked with highway patrol officers before, (not a cop, I was in their IT dept) if they want to catch you there's a very good chance they will.
On my way home from the office one day in moderate traffic, I saw a SCHP officer on the shoulder with a laser pinging traffic. Someone in a Fit flew by going about 10 mph faster than everyone. I saw him drop the gun and hop in his car, blue lights flipped on and I knew he was going after him. I mentioned moderate traffic because it'd be easy to blend into the sea of silver and white and get off on one of the many ramps. Fit guy gets a good 1/4 mile away and out of sight - I know because I lost sight of the trooper as well. He skipped the first offramp, Frogger'd through traffic a bit, and then got off of the highway and turned at the light. The cop clears traffic like the Red Sea, jumps off of the interstate, speeds down the road, and pulls up right behind the Fit as he's going to make his second turn. Nailed him. I had my license suspended for a year because of IL's stupid two moving violations before 21 law. Fuck if I'm ever going to have it taken away again. |

it would all depend how fast you were going a law enforcement regulations
some police forces have speed limits for their officers since in some areas they are not allowed to have high speed chases for me i have though about it, i did get a pretty hefty ticket in the past(got dropped) but had i kept my foot in it i could have made it around the corner and into a drive way and they wouldnt have my plates due to speed, easiest way is to not speed i can vouche for it doing 140kmh in an 80kmh zone late at night its not worth it. |

I've only had one situation where it may have been a viable thought. That thought didn't even cross my mind. Slow traffic in left two lanes, open on the right with gaps in the middle in front of me that would let me through once I passed on the right, so I got over, dropped two gears and hit 90. I used the gaps to get back in the left lane and that's when I saw the cop, though he was on the opposite side of the barrier.
As soon as I saw him I jumped back into the right lane, signaling properly both lane changes and dropped to 65. I watched my rear view mirror or the next 5 exits, nothing. I thought for sure they had me. *Shrugs* |
