first service... bad experience
took my car in to have the first service... 7000 mile oil change/tire rotation/blah blah
i told the guy i wanted to keep an eye on the car and he was cool with it they completed everything and it was time to sign, as we were walking to his desk he asked if i wanted my car washed... i refused and he went to tell them, but when i went to pick up my car i found out they washed the car:mad0260: i was so freakin upset. seriously?!? a SMALL SIMPLE request that they ignored!?!? ughhh i step away from the car for a little bit and they fuk up also heard a exhaust that sounded like my car when i was signing too, there was a few techs that were gathering around my car when it was on the lift, im pretty sure they all wanted to hear the exhaust... i cant prove that tho... dont go to champion toyota in houston, if u do dont get out of ur car or lose sight of it |
Personally I think you're getting too wound up over nothing. Goodluck to the first person to accidentally door ding ya.

I went into my local dealership to get my coolant topped off, and saw one of the porters spot cleaning a customer car with the filthiest rag in the world and a mystery spray bottle. I could almost HEAR the dirt/grime scratching the clearcoat. He had just got done wiping the wheels down.... yes, I would love brake dust in my clearcoat.
I don't even get my complimentary oil changes lol |

Same thing happened to me. What's worst is there's a dip in and out of the service area so I scrapped the bottom of my bumper too....I had a good weep while I waited (j/k). I'm still fixing what the wash did (polishing everything out again). This was at Kearny Mesa Toyota. Granted not a huge deal but it is annoying. |

I get the passion about the car and how many owners are young but never expect any mainstream dealer to treat a 25k car like a specialty vehicle, they don't employ and are not setup for the level of service you expect. However there is a flip side, my last two cars before this were specialty dealerships and would come pick it up from my house on a closed trailer for service and warranty work. Amazing right? Sure was except they always had the car for 2-4 weeks every time.
It's all relative gotta keep that in mind. If you care about your car this much don't ever go to any high volume mass market dealerships unless you know everyone there. |
None of that is as bad as going 7k miles without an oil change.

Oh yeah I forgot I had one mechanic run up at me randomly while I was talking to another mechanic that was taking care of my car shouting "It doesn't have 7K yet!" over and over.
And then I said it's been like 10 months since I've had it and it hasn't been serviced yet and I was told it was 7k or six months whatever came first. He just said "oh" and walked away. wtf? He wasn't even helping me. I guess he was that concern about it. lol |

my mom asked them not to wash the lexus (55k car) when she took it in and they washed it:bonk: Quote:

Just do some quick searching on 10K oil change intervals as well as 15K intervals. Depending on your driving conditions (and oil) you can safely do extended drain intervals with the guidance of an oil analysis IMO |

EDIT: By "recommendation," I meant within the community and not necessarily something in the owners manual. |
I've given up on caring about little stuff. My wife has backed into my door, my front bumper looked like a ginger kid's face after about 12k (no offense, red headed ones), and it appears that unlike my silver vw which hid everything, it's dirty after a day of driving.
Screw it. I just drive. |
That's basically what you have to do. There are naturally going to be some things out of your control, and they're generally much worse.
I'm reminded of a cousin of mine who got an FR-S after she graduated from nursing school, and on a short trip to San Diego, her parents insisted that she take a rental car instead so the car wouldn't get scratched. |
You want something done right? Do it yourself. I do all my own maintenance and detailing. Always have. The exception was on the free service included on my Mini Cooper for the first 30k miles. And yes, they did wash it when I asked them not to.
|
Just realized that I have my last free service this week... Luckily Orlando Toyota/Scion has been absolutely stellar with me. Anything I ask them to do/not do, they are on point with it.
I always do my own maintenance... But being the first brand new car I've had in the past 8 years... I figure, why not? |

and back to the OP, I would be just as pissed as you are if the dealer did not listen to my simple request. |

I have found that this is a true statement. Just do your own maintenance and you will have no worries. Since this isn't a luxury model you are not going to get the level of service that you want and/or expect. When I owned my EVO VIII I was often irritated with the poor level of service and competence that Mitsubishi dealerships provided. I took a deep breath and I looked around at their car lot and it then dawned on me that they sold mainly boring cheap commuter cars. I realized that I was expecting more than they were capable of providing. After that I did all of my own maintenance. -Nate |
Sucks they didn't listen to you bro. But I mean it's just a car wash. There isn't a whole lot that a good detail cant fix anyway. Enjoy it while it shines. Avoid looking for swirls because let's face it even the hardest attempt at a perfect wash will likely result in a swirl or 2. Orrr look closer and realize the paint job is awful to begin with and just drive it :burnrubber:

A few years back, ONCE, I had my nicely waxed car "washed" at a dealership. Yep, I think they used a combination of sulfuric acid and Comet clenser ..... then rinsed it with waste water from the sump. I, like you, was not a happy owner. So, what I have done the past few years is, in addition to telling the service writer NOT to have the car washed, I ask him to write that in large simple words on the work order "DO NOT WASH"! In addition, since an "assumption" (which is the mother of all F _ _ _ ups) is that the tech actually reads the work order, may be weak. I tape a large piece of paper with large print, on the dash, that reads: DO NOT WASH THIS CAR! That has worked for me ..... humfrz |
lesson learned.....
this is why i don't go to dealers to do basic work that can be done yourself.... almost a year now and i have not been to a dealer.. i try and avoid them.. i only go if its something serious |

http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...ges/hijack.gif ...... sort of ....;)
Personally, I take my new cars into the dealership where I purchased them, for service, while the car is under warranty. Although, I don't mod my cars with any "questionable" mods during the warranty period, I feel better IF something were to go wrong, I would have a stronger (less hassel) case to plead, if they had done all the servicing. Yes, I know, I have a set of ramps, a crescent wrench, a pan, a oil filter wrench, a funnel ..... and I know where to buy oil .... ;). However, I sort of like the experience (I'm retired) of spending some time at the dealership. They have FREE coffee, sometimes donuts and good car magazines to read. In addition, sometimes the receptionist is cute and fun to flirt with. I get a kick out of asking questions of the salesperson and finding out how little some of them know about the cars they are "selling". The FR-S is especially fun that way.... :D Yea, I know, it's sort of a hassel to have hide the locking lug key, if I don't want the tires rotated; posting the BIG sign on the dash "DO NOT WASH"; marking the oil filter, to make sure they changed it; checking the oil when they finish to make sure they refilled it and to the proper level and carefully looking under the car for any leaks. Yepper, that coffee has to be good; the receptionist must be perty and the car magazines must be up to date. Oh yes, I COULD DIY, but, after 68 years of doing my own maintenance (yes, I started when I was two years old, by oiling the wheels on my tricycle - after watching my grandpa oil the combine) ..... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/spin.gif humfrz - in ramble mode .... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...illy_nilly.gif |
