86ers unite! Let's volunteer this holiday!

Hey guys, from all the love I've been feeling from this forum and from the recent 86 Fiesta plus the holiday season coming up, I've gotten in the mood of giving.

I was wondering what y'all think of maybe getting a group together to volunteer at a soup kitchen for Thanksgiving or setting up a food or coat drive in the southbay.

Just an idea or two I thought I'd throw out there.

Please chime in with your ideas!!

:thanks:

RC51ed 10-24-2013 02:38 PM

I can't commit to anything but if I'm free I'll help out.

Cyau 10-24-2013 02:45 PM

This is a wonderful idea! Great way to publicize the group, and of course most importantly do some good.

I'm in the same boat as RC51ed, don't know what my schedule like for now, but definitely want to help out if I'm free.

boxer 2.5 10-24-2013 02:54 PM

I live across the country, otherwise I would most definitely help! I'll do what I can over here!

MizzKiMi 10-24-2013 02:57 PM

What a terrific idea! I'm in...just as long as it's not the weekend before thanksgiving lol

Let me know what I can do to help.

PMok 10-24-2013 03:11 PM

definitely interested schedule permitting!

last year a bit before Christmas, @JackSmiley and I bought toys and went to a toy drive/car show event in Union City. Minimal investment/commitment really, so for those who may not be able to do much, that would be an easy thing to take part in on a Saturday or whenever it is. Many car clubs will probably take set up something like this, or we could try and organize one ourselves.

And amazingly before I met pmok and jacksmiley, I was at that same event as old pictures proved.

Rachey's FR-S 10-24-2013 03:27 PM

Keep the ideas coming!

I have a crunchy schedule myself, so something quick and easy is good too.

I LOVE toy drives @PMok! Maybe one (or more) of the local shops can become a drop off site for Toys for Tots or Second Harvest? I know some of you have connections!

Hey if at the least, this will encourage people to pay it forward, my job is done

finch1750 10-24-2013 04:58 PM

I have been thinking about this as part of a grander vision for the group and would be open to organizing a couple meets throughout the bay. Collect the toys or coats and organiza the donation. Ill look into groups in the bay to get the donations too. Would people rather do toys or coats/jackets?

Food kitchens get large influx during these times, plus they need solid commitments at least 2 weeks in advance. Most of us cant schedule that far out this time of year so I think that would be too difficult

I like toys to help children (who doesn't want to help children?) :) but second harvest is also a good charity to help... relatively easy to do canned food drives and collect/deliver them, something we could work out with an existing organization.

Rachey's FR-S 10-24-2013 05:58 PM

I'm all for the kiddos!

Toys for Tots

All we need is a drop off site(s) :iono:

Agreed. s long as I'm in town/not working, I'm in!!

I'll help serve you a bowl my fellow poor 86er!

We can give out toys or clothes to some local orphanage, I think its easier to arrange something for the not so well known organizations. Possibly even do a mini event where kiddies can check out some of your awesome peoples' pimped up rides.

Hmongfrs 10-24-2013 08:25 PM

i'm down!!

phanguy 10-24-2013 08:37 PM

^ I was gonna suggest toy's for tots (or something similar) as well. I remember a few years back, a group of WRX owners from i-club/dirty impreza did a similar toy drive and actually did a caravan and drove the toys to Oakland children's hospital and had a little car show while meeting the kids/parents. I think one guy actually dressed up as santa (and NO, even though I'm "rotund" I refuse to be asian santa )

You pull off this caravan, donuts are on me :) :)

So, to make it work, organize a meet early enough in the morning so donuts are still the breakfast of champs, then we caravan the toys to the designated location. Have the toy before getting to the meet/caravan.

I remember @JackSmiley bringing us Jollibee bfast on one caravan. Invite him!!!!

Unfortunately it is too late for this. They normally need at least 45 days in advance to çoordinate and donations must be in by about the 1st or 2nd week of december based on assign date.

Im looking forward to making this a great event and having a caravan/meet next year. Granted if we get enough donations to need more than one car I guess we shall see.

Aww too bad. Well, like I said, as long as this is inspiration for people to do their part individually or in smaller groups, I'll be happy and so will the people receiving the help!
