2012 NHL Playoffs Thread (aka the most wonderful time of the year)

Not a lot of hockey fans around?

Playoffs have been underway for two days and there have already been some awesome games. As of now:

EAST:
1 Rangers vs. 8 Senators - Series tied 2-2
2 Bruins vs. 7 Capitals - Series tied 2-2
3 Panthers vs. 6 Devils - Series tied 2-2
4 Penguins vs. 5 Flyers - Flyers lead series 3-2

WEST:
1 Canucks vs. 8 Kings - Kings lead series 3-1
2 Blues vs. 7 Sharks - Blues lead series 3-1
3 Coyotes vs. 6 Blackhawks - Coyotes lead series 3-1
4 Predators vs. 5 Red Wings - Predators WIN series 4-1

I wish I stayed up to watch the Blues and Sharks go to double OT, but I was too mad at the Caps losing in such a tight game. I'll try to keep the first post up to date as the games go on. I love this time of year and always try to catch as many games as possible.

Spaceywilly 04-13-2012 09:35 AM

Bruins game was awesome last night, reminded me of game 7 last year against Tampa that was scoreless until 13 minutes into the third, and there wasn't a single penalty the entire game. I love that kind of physical defensive hockey. I'm a little worried though because the Caps could've easily won that game. I think the series could still go either way.

Except for the no penalty part . The second period was all Bruins thanks in part to the amount of powerplay time they got. Caps looked a lot better in the 3rd and had some good chances. It was a great game to watch, and I'm already excited for Saturday. Hopefully the Caps can take that one, otherwise Boston will have a stronghold on the series.

M-17 04-13-2012 11:53 AM

Rarely watch hockey but its the playoffs finally, although I only saw the highlights of some of the games, I now wish I stayed home and watched the Bruins.

But Lets Detroit Go RED WINGS!

zigzagz94 04-13-2012 12:21 PM

F you Havlat, F you....

Let's Go Blues!!!!!

(prediction Blues beat Sharks in 6)

Capt Canuck 04-13-2012 12:36 PM

Watched the Sharks/Blues... Havlat's goal was very very professional. No fuss, just zipped it in there.

As a Canucks fan I like their chances much less this year, than the last two, but who knows.

OMNOM 04-13-2012 01:14 PM

^ Kings played you guys pretty well from what I saw of that game.

I wish the Blues/Sharks game didn't overlap Caps/Bruins because it was a great game, and one I wanted to catch some of. So far the only series to me that looks like it could be easy is the Rangers/Senators series. They were all over the Sens and even though Anderson played well, the Rangers had too many chances.

Pool on where the riot will be this year? Surrey?

I rather have them destroy Surrey than DT Vancouver

Yeah Kings brought it to us last game

Lots of good match up this year loving the Pit vs Phi games those have been pretty exciting

I'm praying for the Nucks but they don't look nearly as solid as they did last year tho goal tending we got 2 solid goalies

OMNOM 04-13-2012 05:25 PM

If the Flyers and Penguins play some more games like game 1 it will be a great series. As a big time hater of both teams, it's awesome to see them attack each other like that!

Decent ginger goalie and a Quebecois Italian that can't handle pressure is more like it.

Twins going to decide to put an effort in this year or are the playoffs just cutting in to their golf season? Heh...

Mr.Jay 04-13-2012 06:00 PM

I think the gingers are going to pull thru haha but i'm bias

Yeah these games are getting physical quick fast haha makes for good hockey

Capt Canuck 04-13-2012 06:56 PM

Hank and Dank played the best they will play in the playoffs last year IMHO. They didn't disappear as much as they previously had... well until the finals :-s and at their age they really cannot have much left to learn.

I have hope, but back to back finals? Phew, that's asking alot!

Capt Canuck 04-13-2012 08:28 PM

If anyone in the States is looking for the schedule of games on NBC/NBC Sports Network, you can put your zipcode in here:

Spaceywilly 04-13-2012 09:17 PM

Wow these Philly/Pitt games are great. I'm just glad I'm not a Penguins fan.

OMNOM 04-13-2012 10:45 PM

Two hat tricks for the Flyers against the Pens. I feel absolutely no sympathy for them, and I hope they get swept!

zigzagz94 04-14-2012 12:56 PM

Wow the canucks are down 0-2 to the kings in the series, never would have called that. I hope the Canucks can come back as the Blues need to get revenge for them sweeping us out of the playoffs in 2009 (08-09 season).

Capt Canuck 04-14-2012 01:26 PM

Schneider to the rescue! Although Lou didn't play poorly, but it is cliched shakeup the team time.

The defense was truly poor in front of the net and Edler's back pass was a thing of un-beauty. This is like last year's Chicago series all over again, 5 v 5 the Canucks are fine, but special teams are awful.

Credit where credit is due to the Kings there top 2 lines are not playing like the top 2 lines on a 8 seed.

S2kphile 04-14-2012 02:02 PM

GO SHARKS! That is all.

Capt Canuck 04-14-2012 02:09 PM

^LOL! If the Nucks don't turn it around soon, I may have to cheer for the local team and not my home team and join you on the Shark's bandwagon :-)

OMNOM 04-15-2012 07:59 AM

Great game last night for the Caps! Going to game 3 tomorrow!

Yes go sharks...keep scoring on yourselves. Thank you Vlasic you're going to make this series easy for us. Let's Go Blues!!!!

OMNOM 04-16-2012 07:54 AM

So how about that Pens-Flyers game yesterday? :bellyroll: Finally exposed the Penguins as cheap and dirty whiners. I can't believe both Pittsburgh and Vancouver are on the verge of getting swept.

zigzagz94 04-16-2012 09:40 AM

The Flyers -Penguins series has been awesome....

Although I can't route for the Flyers because everytime I see their uniforms all I think is "Hey look they took a Blue Note and turned it upside down... thieving b!tch3$, lol"

And yes I know the logos aren't really that similar but I can't help it...I think it's subliminal hatred

Capt Canuck 04-16-2012 12:08 PM

Oh dear :-(
The Canucks actually didn't play that bad last night and still lost... be interesting to see for how many series the Kings can ride Quick.

OMNOM 04-17-2012 07:36 AM

Was at the Caps game last night, and man was that a tough one to swallow. Very disappointed to see them lose like that, but haven't lost hope yet!

Mr.Jay 04-17-2012 12:26 PM

Canucks need to step it up today

Pits and phi games have been amazing to watch

Riot if they get swept?

Serious note they need to get rid of regular-season stars. Forget about topping the division, trade for some players who step up in the playoffs and them who cares if they are only 6th if they win a cup. No more disappearing Swedes and headcase goalies...

OMNOM 04-18-2012 08:15 PM

This Pens-Flyers game is not disappointing. Just as crazy as the rest of the series!

And then it just got out of hand... 10-3?! Flyers will probably still close it out in 5.

Hopefully not. Flyers are probably my most hated team. Mostly cause of the d-bag philly fans :)

Capt Canuck 04-19-2012 11:23 AM

Woot! The Nucks avoided the sweep... tee-times will be a bit easier to get in Vancouver for at least one more weekend ;-)

I hate both, and both fanbases have a good amount of douchey fans. But the Penguins need to be put out rudely like this, they've become full of themselves.

Assuming you're a Florida fan, how about your Panthers? Most (including myself) didn't give them much of a shot against the Devs.

Couldn't care less about the panthers. I'm more of a Carolina Hurricanes fan.

I live in Tampa so I'm supposed to be a lightning fan too. I do go to their games more than I would have expected, but then most of the times it's free.

All sorts of Southeast division fun! I hope the NHLPA gets their heads of out their collective ass and lets the realignment plan go through.

Mr.Jay 04-19-2012 05:20 PM

pit and phi has been the crazy series I've ever watched

good to see the Canucks get back on their feet but they got a big big hill to climb

OMNOM 04-20-2012 07:32 AM

Caps win! Series is tied 2-2 now!

OMNOM 04-21-2012 11:08 AM

I updated the first post to reflect all the games and series updates through last night. Congrats to the Predators for beating the Red Wings! I have them going to the finals this year, what a dangerous team.

OMNOM 04-22-2012 08:33 PM

Pittsburgh eliminated today! Unfortunately the Caps couldn't finish off the Bruins, so game 7 is on Wednesday.... Man I hope they win that one. Either way it's been a hell of a series. Still a little stung after the loss today though.

Dimman 04-23-2012 10:58 AM

President's trophy? Yeah that's almost as good as the Stanley Cup, right?

Congrats, LA.
