2014 Fr-s or wait until monogram series..
I'm planning on getting my first car(finally) in December of this year, and I can't decide whether I should just get the 2014 or wait for the monogram series. Thoughts?
|
Depends on what you want...but if you waited this long and are considering the Monogram. Just wait for it, otherwise if you're considering the 14 might as well buy a 13 for a cheaper price...
|
I would wait to see the price at least. It will just come down to whether or not you think the features are worth the price.
|
it's basically a series 10 (minus all the extra useless LED) or brz limited with your favorite color.
so it depends on what you want... would you pay 3 grand extra for heated leather seat, climate control HID headlight keyless car entry. Bespoke unit. My decision when I purchased my car is no, since I bought the car for it's driving experience. but others opinion may vary |
If you want all the GT86/BRZ features, wait for the monogram series. If you don't care about those features, get a new '13 for a discount. '13's and '14's aren't really different enough to pass up a discount on a '13.
The Monogram series is exactly everything I ever wanted in my FR-S, but at the same time I'm glad I would have already been driving my car for 6 months by the time these Monograms come out. I'll trade up when the power increase comes ALONG with all the features in the Monogram/86/BRZ. |

14 brz ltd from clint is going to be far cheaper than a monogram, i'm sure.
|
I would wait for the monogram or go for a ltd BRZ
|
I would wait for the monogram, not because of the features but because if you end up waiting for it, you'd be skipping winter.
Then when it comes out, if you're not happy with the price you can get a regular MY14 one. Or just go with what people said about the MY13 year. |
If I didn't have mine already, I'd wait for the monogram one. The HID headlights are so sexy, makes many FR-S owners secretly jealous. And people are paying a lot of money just for those lights.
|
for the love of god get a $1000 POS and wait a year and see what the 2015s look like

Personal opinion: buy a 2013 as cheaply as you can then have Katskinz leather installed in the color of your choice. SHAZAM! :-D

If you can get a 2013 for significantly less than a 2014, AND you don't care about technology/cosmetic/luxury upgrades because you might end up changing some stuff or adding some stuff yourself? Then I wouldn't wait, I would go get a First Gen (of the revolution) 2013 now.
|
eh, it's just another marketing thing to me. I'm more than happy with the simplicity of my '13. I've done almost all the cosmetic things I want to do. The ONLY thing I think would be fun would be the headlights. The rest doesn't really matter to me. In 5 years, I bet the headlights will be had at a fraction of the price.

If the 2015 has a 1.6 liter turbo.... I'm just saying....

Second reason is that I like the FR-S bumper more, plus I just had to have Ultramarine. We never got GBS here in Canada for the BRZ's. Third reason is that, even though it's not that big a difference in daily driving, I wanted the more tail happy twin. Fourth reason, I like the more single-tone interior of the FR-S (the black "faux" carbon fibre everyone seems to hate) over the giant silver dash piece of the BRZ. To me, it looks out of place and oddly too bright in sunny conditions. I like dark interiors. The BRZ is great. Just wasn't for me. :) |
If I was you, I would buy a Used FRS, and mod those little features to my own taste while having something fun to look forward to, and Save money

I went for the 10 series because I wanted the keyless entry, push start and HID's. I can take or leave the glowing bits of the 10 series and don't mind it's color. Had I known this was coming down the pike, I may have waited then I could have gotten a red or lava one.
Keep in mind that there will always be something newer and better in the future and you might just end up waiting forever and miss out on having a fun car to drive in the meantime. |
If I was looking to buy an FR-S right now, I'd hold out until more information is out regarding the 2015 models.
By then, you'll probably have no problem getting a good deal on either a 2014 or a Monogram. |
Fortunately Canada hasn't got any 2014s out as far as I know, this means I can wait for the monogram and then I'll be more than satisfied.
|
if I wait long enough I may dump this for the coming 'supra' replacement in 2015-16 game over.

No one who demands "luxury" would drive either of the twins at any trim level. Those people tend to go for entry level BMW/Mercedes/Lexus/Acura and then stick their nose high in the air with pride. Back on topic, it's broken record time! If you don't really dig the "Monogram" features then just buy a base, have them install the features you do want and save a few grand in the process. Also, the pricing is being announced in January and the "soon after" release will probably be around March/April. All depends on how patient you can be if you want those "luxury" features. |
