Mi Scusi, Anyone running Perrin or Borla Cat back?

Hilo 86 community!

I am in search of an exhaust, I have narrowed it down to either a perrin or borla cat back. IF anyone is running either, may I please sit in your carro or you can take me for a ride???? Listening to youtube vids does not do it justice. Possibly at the next Meet N Greet @ Dublin??? Thankies!!

Don't even waste your time looking into the Borla, just get the Perrin and call it a day.

I need more information on this comment!!

pmccut 10-22-2013 01:56 AM

I think the Perrin is the most common exhaust I've seen in the area (besides stock). You probably heard @Cjymiller's. It's super quiet and can be confused with the stock exhaust IMO.

Clipdat 10-22-2013 02:52 AM

Well, I just said that because it seems like you are trying to decide between two single canister, dual exit systems. Everything I've read/heard about the Perrin is that it's a well built high quality system with a good tone, without being obnoxious.

Maybe @overlookedx can chime in, I know he had the Perrin on his car for some time.

I hadn't heard about the Perrin exhaust being mistaken for stock, I could clearly hear it the times I've been behind a twin with it installed. I have heard of the Invidia Q300 being mistaken as stock though, it really is very subtle. The Greddy SP Elite is also very subtle.

So, I guess it really depends on what direction you are going in, but it's hard to beat the construction, tone, and looks of the Perrin.

Thanks for input @Clipdat

perrin is good! my only complain is the tips never aligns.

omegared19 10-22-2013 03:23 AM

The Borla has a weird sound to it. The Perrin is clean, commonly used, and decent. I've still got my FT86SpeedFactory resonated exhaust for sale.

microcarmag 10-22-2013 03:27 AM

The Borla was not bad... If I had one complaint it was that clearance between road and manifold was not much... We recently just put DC Sport Cat Back exhaust and will say I love the sound... Dual Canister style works very well...

To get the tips to align -

Loosen the two V bands on the S pipe, the connection to the mid pipe, and the connection to the muffler.
Then twist the S pipe to move the muffler to the desired location, then retighten the V bands, and you are done!

GREDDY EVO 3.... I might go to the dublin meet and greet you can come for a ride along if you like.

BRZkitty 10-22-2013 01:03 PM

I will wait til order after Dublin to hear/see everyone's... That sounds great @FRS_Jack ;)

Clipdat 10-22-2013 01:03 PM

Hahah, Yeah I have a dual canister setup as well and it's very loud and proud.

Obviously with two mufflers you're going to have them resonating off/with each other and that generates a lot more sound for sure. Typically a deeper boomier tone, in my experience.

Again, just depends on what direction you want to go in. Dual canisters definitely attract more attention. I love the way they look from behind on this car. In addition to the Greddy here's a few other dual canister designs:

Does your exhaust rattle your entire trunk... I removed my third break light because it was that bad..... Ended up dynomatt the whole trunk it was good at first now it rattles again....

Oh yeah, mine vibrates a lot and is super boomey and resonates like crazy on deceleration.

But I like it.... because racecar!

FRS_Jack 10-22-2013 01:23 PM

Is that an Greddy Evo 3? It doesnt look like mine...

Clipdat 10-22-2013 01:31 PM

Nope, it's just another take on a split/Y pipe dual canister design, its not a Greddy.

Although I wouldn't mind having the Greddy. And you better believe I would never run the silencers in that bad boy :D

Sorry @BRZkitty for derailing your thread!

Here's another single canister system you should look at if you like the Perrin: http://www.millteksport.com/features...m#.UmaopxAnWkw

All lies. It's probably a bit louder on your car than mine though. I'm still looking for something slightly louder than the perrin resonated but much quieter than the EVO3. No clue yet.

Pwolf 10-22-2013 02:30 PM

I might have to come down to the dublin meet and hear some exhausts as well for future purchase. I was only able to hear the Evo3 this weekend (forgot who's it was).

RC51ed 10-22-2013 02:47 PM

We should just have a meet for reving our cars to hear your exhaust set ups. Lol

I have the Ark Grip.

overlookedx 10-22-2013 04:08 PM

I loved my Perrin, it's a quality piece and the easiest exhaust I've ever installed. The way they designed the hangers and the v-band clamps makes it very easy to install.

I have to admit though, that the sound wasn't racecar enough for me, even with the unresonated one. Initial startup after install had me going.. meh. The first time I was actually pleased with my exhaust setup was after I had sold the Perrin and threw on a muffler delete. Cheap, light, loud, and had a great growl even with everything else stock.

That said, I wonder what a resonated Perrin with aftermarket FP/OP and headers would sound like. If you see yourself going down that path eventually, I'd get the resonated Perrin.

My plan exactly. I got a catted FP and the OP should be in by this afternoon.

When/where are you gonna install them? Gonna try yourself? Also we demand a sound clip once you do have them installed. I have a shotgun mic and DSLR if you'd like to use that (what I used on my UELs video)

Chee-Hu 10-22-2013 06:22 PM

If only you were closer to the Sacramento area. I have a resonated headerback (w/ OP and FP) system.

Once I can source a whiteline shift bushing and a Perrin Rear Trans mount I'll do the install. I figured I should get those in while the FP is out. Although I've heard of overpipe install issues, I plan on doing this at home myself. I'd be down to meet up if you want to shoot video and take sound clips. I have no ability to edit any media.

It has a deep tone. Quiet not loud. I guess the way I have it set up for now.

I'm from Sacramento, next time you're out at a meet or something let me know I wanna hear it. I've been wanting a Perrin exhaust but I hate overly loud exhausts and I do not want to make my ride louder than it already is.

JohnAyySays 10-23-2013 03:08 AM

Does anyone in Hayward or around the area have a resonated Perrin catback without any other mods? Would love to hear this because I've been debating for the longest if this is the exhaust for me.

Cjymiller 10-23-2013 01:52 PM

@JohnAyySays

I've got it and if you want to hear it, you're welcome to come to Saratoga Friday around 11pm and you can hear it and drive with us.

JohnAyySays 10-23-2013 05:07 PM

@Cjymiller dammit got work till 1130 that day D: You guys doing any other drives this week?
