Stray cat issues
So a stray neighborhood cat loves sleeping on the hood of my FRS mainly because I come home late and my hood is the warmest spot....so I thought! It sleeps on it even when the engine is cold! It leaves tons of hair and dirt all over my white girl....that's her name :)
So any way to repel the cat? I don't want hurt it, just nudge away from my car. Edit-parked in a covered car port/neighbors |
sprinkle red pepper on the hood.
|
Shoot it with an airsoft gun.
|
Cats hate anything sticky and they won't go back if they find it. So spray some diluted corn syrup on the hood and rinse it off the next morning.
|
Adopt it!
|
|
Feed the cat then brush it. >.> Cat's diet actually changes how much of it's hair is falling.
|
Oil cooler? :iono:

I have a similar problem with neighborhood cats walking on my car at night when it's wet from condensation. I wake up and go down to my car to see muddy cat prints all over it.
Very nice when it happens 2 days after I wash it. |
Feed it and take it in to live with you. That's what I did to a cat that kept coming to my yard and didn't run away when I approached it.
|
I sprinkled chili powder around my car....I hope it works!

I heard that cats are repelled by strong citrus odors. I don't know if that's true or not. Anyway, just hit the local pet store and ask the professionals, pet stores carry products for everything. :-)

There's some outdoor barrier/repellent stuff you can buy at pet stores. I had a problem with the neighbors cat getting on my xB, which led to scratch marks:mad0260:. I used a spray (not sure what it's called, don't have it in front of me) and a product that could be sprinkled on the ground (smelled god awful). It seemed to work, though I imagine it will depend on the cat too, and you'll probably have to re-apply after rain/snow.

Chili powder didn't work :/
My hood was covered in paw prints and hair. |
Car cover until it finds another home.

Unless you get rid of the cat, maybe it is time to invest in a car cover.
|
Hide in your car. When the cat gets on top of it turn it on and gun the engine.
|
1. install a train horn in your car with a timer that sets it off every hour. the cat will learn.
2. get a dog 3. fire hose 4. put cat food on someone else's car so it goes there instead 5. firecrackers 6. install airbags in your car so when the cat is on it you can literally fling the cat off by launching your front end in the air. |
How about a fan or a strobe light on an extension cord, set near the car somewhere, just to disturb the peace. If there is too much noise, motion or light the cat might move on.

I have two German Shephards, they pretty much keep cats away. You could try that. Also, go lay on the hood of the cat owner's car hood. Maybe they will figure out what's what. I had a person who would always let their dog poo in my front yard. My dogs have a back yard, and don't use the front yard. Anyway, I finally figured out who was letting their dog use my yard, and I politely asked them to stop. After the fifth time of asking nicely with no results, I took my two German Sheps to that person's house when the dogs needed outside, and let them do their business in that person's yard. It only took one time and I have yet to clean up the other people's dog poo again. Perhaps it will work in your case by sleeping on their hood, they will realize it is poor manners to let their animal run free on other's property. If it is just a stray, you need to deal with it anyway. Stray cats turn in to many many stray cats. I know it sounds cruel, but doing nothing may be more cruel.

I like the fire hose idea! |
I'm with the folks who suggested adopting the cat.

Here's your solution:

Same problem here. Park the car at the acupuncture clinic, and the local cat heads right for my car, up on the hood unless I intercept the little shithead. I love cats, but he's pushing it. My REAL problem is that spiders seem to LOVE my car. EVERY time I get in the thing, there are at least a few jumping spiders giving me the hairy eyeball.

Your meme is a little off. It's should be:
Panel 1: "Looks like your FR-S is quite the" Panel 2: *puts on sunglasses* Panel 3: "***** Magnet." Panel 4: *shows cityscape* "YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" |
I'd put a blanket on top of the car and put a few mouse traps baited with cat food. Remove the nail or anything else sharp from the trap that might actually hurt the cat though.
|
I was thinking a bit of OC might do the trick.
|
A plastic ziplock container* with some mothballs under your car works. Cats don't like the smell, but your neighbors might not like it either.

This is taking me back to Saturday morning Looney Tunes cartoons. How do I get rid of the cat? Buy a dog! How do I get rid of the dog? Buy a lion! How do I get rid of the lion? Buy an elephant! How do I get rid of the elephant? Buy a mouse! How do I get rid of the mouse? Lol

If it's really a stray cat, check Craigslist for non-profit organizations that re-home cats. Especially in CA, there are plenty of caring people with farms/barns that need mousers. Better than living in a parking lot with no food.
