2014 BRZ completely unchanged
Well, this is peculiar.
So a shipment of cars arrived at our dealership just minutes ago, one of them being a WRB BRZ Limited 6MT. Naturally I walked over to see what was up with it. Thought "oh boy, this is probably a 2014! Let's see what's different with it!" after reading in dealer resources about revised badging, padded knee pads and such. Upon reviewing the window sticker and confirming that yes, this was indeed a 2014, I cracked the door and saw... nothing different. Puzzled, I closed the door and rushed to the back of the car: same badging. Alright, this was strange. I found myself poring over every inch of the car looking for something different but could find nothing, nothing at all. Completely identical to the 2013 in every way I could see. Is it possible the MY changes won't take effect until later in the production line? I'm a bit disappointed, honestly. Edit: I shouldn't say completely unchanged. They do of course have Aha smartphone integration AND the same keys from the 2014 Forester w/ keyless (they have an actual Subaru emblem embedded rather than stamped plastic) |
Why were you expecting it to be different?

Yea, looks like the only thing they did so far was AHA part of the radio
|
yep. looks like all they ended up changing is really the radio and the steering wheel badge (it looks a bit bluer than before)
|
The key is also different. Instead of the stamped Subaru star cluster in the plastic it has an actual emblem, same as the regular Subaru remote keys. Nothing too exciting for me since I already swapped key housings from a Forester Touring with keyless access. Software version on the head unit reads 05,30,2013 Ver.68.2002 if anyone cares?

so frs gets knee pads in 2014 but brz doesn't? thought i saw a thread with somebody taking pics of their 14 frs with stock knee pads.
|
yes the 14 frs has knee pads.

Another Subaru employee posted this a few weeks back as well and confirmed no new pads, and badges (at least on the outside of the car) were the same. Just the Aha radio app (and steering wheel)?
Should we really be surprised though? The cars were selling well, I don't think they need to change much at this point. I suspect next year will see very minor mods, and then the year after that may see significant changes with the mid-cycle refresh. |
I'd be happy about my resale values if I owned a 2013 right about now!

So THAT is the revised badging Subaru was talking about.(on the key fob..LOL)

I'm starting to see the benefit of waiting for MY '14 over '13...

I looked at a 14, the badge looks the same to me as my 13. The AHA is kinda cool, but no support for windows phone 8 yet.
|
That's not a reflection-from-the-seat issue. The emblem is blue on mine.

lol Yea though Clint did take a pic of it wasn't very definitive enough for me to believe. can't wait for the pic might have to find that embelm and do a swap down the line. |
|
And there you have it, folks. Also, a very small thing to note, the buttons on the seatbelt straps are matte black instead of shiny black.

They helped me get my 2013 at slightly above invoice 2 weeks ago (and I got 0% interest too) ! I am obviously a total fan of the car..obviously because I bought one... But I am a picky driver. I have owned... Nismo 350Z (was fun, but "felt" heavy) STI (did not enjoy the lack of feedback) Boxster S (really fun to drive...IMS failure is a scary proposition...scared me away) SRT8 Challenger (Muscle car...was fun in a straight line) 88 S/C MR2 (track car...was a blast but overly tuned...unreliable) 89 MR2 (was a DD...was reliable...but slow and the suspension was shot) Literally...the BRZ is the most fun car to drive I have every owned. It is as fun as the MR2s (which were my favorites), but its warrantied and if something breaks...I can find parts (I assume this to be true). |
I like the black logo over the blue personally.

I am very happy that I waited for the 2014. I will arrive back to the States from overseas on November 2nd and should receive my car within a couple of weeks. With that said waiting was the smartest thing that I could do. I wouldn't have been upset with a 2013 either though. I do wish that they had added the knee pads and door speakers because they have had them in Japan since the release of the GT86 and BRZ and they look great.
I just don't see myself paying money for these in the future because they are purely cosmetic and add no performance or value to the car. I am curious about the changes to the Head Unit. Has anyone had any problems with the new iPhone 5S? -Nate |
