"Built By Passion" Toyota 86 assembly promo video

Looks like last week Toyota released a promotional video consisting of footage from the 86/BRZ factory assembly line.

Well, they certainly overlooked a bunch of steps between the opening shots of the camshafts and finally rolling out the finished engine.

Anthonytpt 10-16-2013 02:54 PM

They even borrowed the terrible music from How It's Made.

Scaldy 10-17-2013 12:20 AM

I think I had a seizure during that video.

boxer 2.5 10-17-2013 12:45 AM

The title of the video should have been "built by machines"

JB86'd 10-17-2013 04:09 AM

Wow Transformers 4 looks like it's gonna be intense.

Moe 10-17-2013 05:52 AM

I respect the 86, but built by "Passion" is taking marketing too far. Should be built by precision or something like that would have been the more appropriate term.

Built by passion conjures up images of people working in their back-yard with basic tools and creating something exceptional.

Calais 10-17-2013 09:44 AM

idk if i like it, the video makes the car look so sterile, in total there was only 5 seconds that people were actually shown, of that, 3 of which they were actually doing work on the car, but in Toyota marketing's defense it doesn't say anything about built by passion in the clip it says drive with passion, should've named it different though

R.S-HawK 10-17-2013 03:26 PM

Am I the only one scared by the fact that there was like, 1 person in the entire video? :confused0068:

That doesnt make me feel any better! Those arent men - those are machines that look like humans! :eyebulge:

They're way too fast and precise to be men!

But on-topic, thanks for the videos! I think the tag line "passion" would have made more sense if it was some sort of video to do with the chronological order of how the cars were built; e.g. from the engineers to drawing boards, factory, etc etc

BugeyedWagon 10-23-2013 12:51 PM

Love the BRZ in the Toyota video at the end, left side of the frame. It's even more delightful that the entire production of the vehicle occurs in a Subaru plant.

Don't volunteer to do a police lineup.........there was more than one human. First one appears at 1:39/1:40 mark.

JRP 10-23-2013 01:48 PM

I think the passion is what the developers have writing the programs that control all the robots.

What the hell was that godawful noise they included in the video?

ducky106 10-23-2013 06:01 PM

anybody else really want a plain steel FR-S now? Like just clear coat the plain steel, I think that would look amazing.

Ben_G 10-23-2013 06:07 PM

That video was meh.... I'm more interested in what this is saying... anyone translate?

ASF is apparently "Aerodynamic Stabilizer Fin". The slide title is:
"ASF: Rising Aero stabilizer fin biomimicry"

Aerodynamic technology of F1, which was introduced from the Toyota Camry are being submitted to 86.

Sorry, my spoken Japanese isn't nearly good enough to translate the audio.

Yeah, I didn't see much passion in that automation... Toyota missed the mark as the passion comes when experiencing their product and not it being built.

stockysnail 10-23-2013 09:05 PM

There's a black BRZ in the end of the video. ;)

TruRace 10-23-2013 11:47 PM

They skipped the part on making tail lights that keep collecting water condensation.

Rockstar Lifestyle 10-24-2013 11:18 AM

Lawl @ "passionless subaru robots" tag.

FRSupra 10-24-2013 02:22 PM

for those wondering about the music playing in the second video, Toyota (and I guess Subaru as well) use tones like that to signify the changing of phases in the assembly line. In the production of the LFA one of the tones was a common American anthem but I can't recall.
