not very loud, but high pitched sound at 70+mph

Does anyone else hear this? On a smooth stretch of freeway (radio off of course) you can hear it if you are listening for it: at exactly 70mph and above, I hear a high pitched sound (not sure where it is coming from, I assume the engine...) when I press the accelerator. It also sounds when I have it on cruise control. No sound when speed drops below 70mph.

Sorry I have not monitored the forums in weeks, so someone may have posted about this already but a brief search did not bring up anything relevant to me. If it's been posted already, replying with a link to the original thread will be appreciated.

I've noticed this sound as well, sounds like a really quiet whine of some sort whenever I'm on the gas or travelling over 60mph. Not really bothered about it since it sounds almost like a tiny supercharger but would like to see what other people think as well. I'm guessing intake or the HPFP.

I hear it too. I've always assumed it's the fuel pump too. But I've never heard any crickets.

I have had it on multiple cars, I hate it but assume its normal.

I hear that everyday... seems to have happened right after install my innovate supercharger... hmmmmm ;-)

SuperDave 10-15-2013 08:27 PM

i've heard it, but it's never bugged me, it's only when i press on the accelerator too.

I just get a flapping noise from one of the fender liners

JonAvalon 10-15-2013 09:25 PM

I get this as well but even before 70mph. I don't mind it at all, i just think of it as a innovate sc running :P

It could be the antenna.
Sometimes from a certain speed the antenna starts to resonate and causes a whistle noise.

Is there someone with an aftermarket sharkfin antenna who also has this problem?

I have the beatsonic sharkfin antenna and still experience this midget supercharger sound

I assumed it was the intake sound generator. I just drove 4 hours back from Miami and it was annoying. I just ignored the sound.

BRZer86 10-16-2013 10:15 AM

Normal. The only cars that I do not hear it on are on higher end vehicles like BMW, MB, Lexus, etc. but I believe thats just to a more insulated cabin, along with a thicker firewall.

hushypushy 10-16-2013 07:55 PM

I hear something like that too; it sounds like feedback coming from the speakers. However, if I turn the stereo on/off or turn the volume up and down nothing happens so I'm 99.99% sure it's not sound system related.

At this point, I just ignore it. BTW, I have never had crickets.

This is most likely your problem:

Yep, I'd suspect the differential.

You might try changing the fluid in the differential and see if the sound goes away. Even if that's not it .... the fluid change may benifit the differential.....;)

When you install a solid T tranny mount ie: Perrin or similar this sound is amplified 100% to note.
